Yegrut Finkle the Vivimancer, First of the Shining Oak, Harbinger of Thar-Eris
DescriptionSo covered in twigs and leaves as to resemble more a small bush than a gnome, this little fellow peers about with a gaze filled with the wisdom that comes from experience. Toting a small wooden staff and some spellbooks, he at times srangely speaks to the air and acts as if he can hear a voice answering back. Still, when his gaze falls upon you, it is filed with gentle intelligence and clarity.
A last look at this somewhat strangle little fellow would reveal that

51134, Yegrut's Role Chapter 13

RoleChapter 13 The Wisdom of Life and Liberty - A Treatise on Freedom by Yegrut Finkle (Final Chapter) Added Wed Feb 5 09:49:04 2014 at level 51:I have come to these understandings as a long-time initiate of the Awakened Ancient, Strienat Greenhoof. I implore all those who are free or seek to be free to contemplate the meaning of acting out of a desire to enhnce life and to carefully consider aggression and its purpose. My understanding after all these years has settled on this:
When we are hungry we hunt for food. Many creatures must kill to survive. This is as it must be and there is no wrong in that. Death is a part of Life. But MURDER does not have to be. Think upon the very fact we have a word that distinguishes killing from an act that goes beyond killing out of need or self-defense. Murder is an act of tyranny and selfishness, solely acted upon for the sake of enacting ones will upon another sovereign soul not for survival or self-defense but out of ones own selfish desires. Murder is an act only a thinking creature can perform for it requires thought to desire more than what you actually need or as I like to say - a wolf with a full stomach can lay among the sheep and the sheep have no reason to fear. Only a thinking creature unlike the wolf will still slaughter those sheep despite its belly being full.
Every soldier in every army that exists, every guardsman in the Spire believes they are doing what is right for they have been convinced of this by those who they have been conditioned to view as their 'superiors'. However there has been few wars in history and fewer still laws passed that were for the benefit of those doing the guarding and fighting.
The secret of this is that few souls truly seek or wish to view themselves as murderers. A pretext must always be found for most thinking creatures even those placed in chains still dream of freedom and instinctivally understand that limiting the freedom of another through force and violence is wrong when it is not done for any other reason except to further the agenda of a greedy Tyrant who doesnt wish to trade and would rather convince others to steal for him on a grand scale.
I implore thsoe who feel the stirrings f liberty and freedon to cast away your chains of bondage and live free.
The struggle for liberty for all who wish it shall be brought to the door of the Tyrants and Oppressors through the will of the Free!

RoleChapter 12 The Wisdom of Life and Liberty - A Treatise on Freedom by Yegrut Finkle (Part II) Added Wed Feb 5 09:22:14 2014 at level 51:Once we can understand all creatures have a role to play in the great story of Life itself, then we can begin to see the many chains placed upon us when we are forced to ook away from our own natures and potentials for the sake of the comfort of others, for make no mistake - the vast majority, those humble masses toiling away day in and day out are chaff before the reaper.
Every creature is sovereign, meaning it has a right to exist and has individual control over its own existance. Tyrants of all stripe seek to have the masses forget their power and potential out of contempt and fear. The masses once knowing they are truly free and serve out of ignorance would put away their chains abd live freee - and then who would toil day in and day out for the sake of another's comfort? They would begin to see that the sword of a tribunal is not there to protect them from we of the wilds, but it is truly there at their very throats, a silent reminder of the authority and tyrannical power of those who see themselves as sultans, mayors, empresses, or what have you - Those who wish the masses to believe they NEED them in order to live a 'normal' life.
But the most humble of mewling babies understnds instinctively that all that is truly required is food, some protection from the elements, and shelter from the storms that sometimes rage. Those who have convinced the masses that they need 'more' do so not for the sake of the masses but for their own unquenchable thirsts for power over others. They see themselves as the Shepards guiding the Sheep, but they are wolves amongst the flock, hungry for blood and war to justify their own existance. The masses need no Shepard, only the freedom to pursue their own designs unimpeded by the swords and armies of those who would see them enslaved, not merely physically but vaught in the prison of beliefs created to blind them to their very own rights as thinking creatures.
Those who seek more to possess ultimately shall be owned by their very possessions.

RoleChapter 11 The Wisdom of Life and Liberty - A Treatise on Freedon by Yegrut Finkle (Part I) Added Wed Feb 5 08:53:40 2014 at level 51:I have spent many years exploring the notion of freedom. As one who was once deprived of theirs, it is a subject close to my heart. After many years of study and contemplation amongst my brethern in the wilds I have decided it is time to share my humble musings for the sake of the free souls seeking voice to their unknown struggles and mostly for those still caught in the enslavement of ignorance, not even truly understanding the many chains laid upon them for they have been placed carefully over time by tradition, custom, law, and sheer fear of the potential within.
First it must be understood that popular notions of strength and weakness obscure the true diversity and connectedness of life. I have spent years of m life observing wildlife throughout Thera, performing expiraments in pursuit of a cure for the many ills brought to Thar Eris by those who are blind to the bounty Mother provides to us all. In this study I have seen how even the humble and usually despised insects contribute to the well being of creatures far more 'strong' than they. Think upon a world where the 'weak' bee was not around to pollinate the flowers and the impact this would have upon creatures above it.
Thus it must be understood that life no matter how humble has a place and a reason for being, one we may not understand but which we should respect. All creatures great and small deserve to live free and according to their natures for no single being possesses the wisdom and knowledge to know the potential of another being and in this ignorance we should strive for understandng rather than act out of fear and seek control and tyranny to replace actual empathy.

RoleChapter 10 A Day with Tiggle Added Sun Jan 19 09:23:45 2014 at level 51:'Mog Strong! Mog the Strongest!' Tiggle chanted as he sped through the wilds of the forest. Since he and Yegrut had escaped the dungeons long ago, Tiggle had grown close to the mighty giant ranger of the Outlanders for Tiggle felt a kinship rooted in their wild natures. Though Tiggle loved Yegrut, in spirit they were quite different...Tiggle was wild and capricious and even sometimes violent while Yegrut was serious and careful and due to his growing sense of what it meant to be an initiate of Greenhoof, he avoided violence when he could.
Tiggle swung through the trees his arms elongating when needed to catch a branch like some sort of morphic monkey. He was hunting a present for Mog. Mog had promised Tiggle that eating lots and lots wiould make him big and strong and nothing meant as much to Tiggle as being bigger and stronger like Mog. He had always been such a tiny creature and though he couldn't really remember a time before the dungeons of Seantryn, Tiggle sensed that being big, strong and powerful would keep him from ever being in a dungeon again. So in his heart Tiggle wanted to be a giant, so big,s trong and free, with nobody who could ever put chains on him again. If they tried he would EAT THEM...at the very thought of chains Tiggles teeth sharpeend into fangs and his hands into claws, his body shapeshifting into a giant wolf. Lifting his head he howled 'AAaaaaaaaaooooooooooo!!' into the still air of the forest.
Sniffing the air, tiggle smelled his prey nearby, a plump deer. Tiggle would get Mog venison to eat! Morphing again into his regular shape, Tiggle silently elongated an arm and took to the treetops near the unwary deer. With barely a sound, Tiggle ambushed the deer like he had seen Nog do many times and severed its artery in one quick blow.
Skinning and preparing the meat, Tiggle decided to take a nap before he would head back to the Great Tree. Closing his eyes he thought he spied Yegrut looking down at him, but that couldn't be...Yegrut was off studying in the Lyceum.

RoleChapter 9 Help Wanted Added Thu Jan 16 18:14:25 2014 at level 51:Assistance soon came in the form of the Harbinger of Thar-Eris, a lively thief of the wilds named Foedett who it turned out was also a highly proficient arcanist if not a true mage. With some consultation, he and Yegrut agreed that openeing up the quest to heal the blight to others was a wise idea. The Harbigner would petition allies within the Fortress of Light while Yegrut would initiate contact with the reknowned Heralds. In addition they alerted within the Outlanders to what was sought.
As these events transpired, Yegrut also made progress in using his transmutation upon plantlife. He had grown the blade of grass to the point it resembled an actual BLADE of grass. Meditating upon everything Yegrut determinded that soon he would need to search out druids to begin field tests of his theories.
Also Foedett had posited an interesteing expirament to try. Taking the tainted land and seeing if it could be made 'flat' and thus not part of or having an effect on this dimension the same as when he went duo.
He wasn't sure how this would come about or how he would test all these theories but he was sure the Ancients, especially the Awakened One would send him a sign.

RoleChapter 8 Growth vs. Mutation Added Thu Jan 9 20:27:39 2014 at level 46:Yegrut's research into Veran had not gone as planned but he was pleased. Inside Veran he had learned a few things that could guide his research into growth and life. A cautionary tale of what happens when the quest for knowledge ends in far worse than death. From what he could gather, ages ago a team of mages had opened some sort of interdimensional Rift which had strange mutagenic properties which they were researching. He believed they had even begun to merge different lifeforms and his suspicions were confirmed when he came to a room deep within the laboratory where a huge creature composed of the bodies of countless other creatures resided in an obvious torturred existance. Yegrut was struck by its plight, understanding in an instant of clarity where the line was between growth and life which should be cherished and unnatural mutation which should be cleansed from the world. Now he truly understood the warning the Awakened One had given him and he determiend his research and magic would never lead to a result such as this poor creature.
Besides a cautionary tale however, Yegut had gleaned from the little bit of knowledge still left in the abandonded libraries of the laboratory that it was within arcane power to induce mutation. Uijudioculo Wjhahuai was the arcane term for it. Here in Veran the energies from the rift induced changes, albeit unfortuanetly it seemed with a corruptive side effect. Yegrut theorized that perhaps the nature of this corruption could be related to the same corruption or taint that marred the wilds near the Great Tree.
He would need more information to proceed...and assistance.

RoleChapter 7 Theories Added Fri Jan 3 10:10:42 2014 at level 40:Months passed as Yegrut researched and thought upon how to complete his tasks. Consulting with Cresol and scouring various magical texts and nature books he began to develop his two main theories on how to promote growth and life as well as repair the damage done by the blight. His first theory was both simple and complex in parts. Druids were well known for their great ability to spur natural growth. They were unmatched in this aspect. Seondly during a full moon, druidic power reched its zenith. Yegrut's theory was that a large enough gathering of druids during a full moon all concentrated on one task would be able to do amazing things such as end the blight in the forest. The complex part was finding that many druids willing to work together as one. However he had noted that many druids gathered in the Holy Grove a small distance from the Eatern road halfway between the cities of Galadon and Hamsah Mu'Tazz. Perhaps they could be approached.
His second theory involved his own transmutation magic. Until now, all in his guild had focused their magic upon their own bodies or similar. However, Yegrut theorized that at root there was not much phyical difference between what composed his body and the body of a plant. Perhaps with enough research and expiramentation he could learn to transmute plant-life as well as flesh and bone.
He knew that an abandoned laboratory existed in Veran, a place where such expiraments may have already been field-tested, for it was a place he had visited once and had made a note that the plant-life there was remarkable in its uniqueness to that area....as sign that an outside event had caused some sort of change in that area causing such strange and unique growth.
It was soon after he came up with this theories that he was visited by the Awakened One Himself, Strienat Greenhoof who cautioned Yegrut to not allow his passion for research bring harm to Thar-Eris but he did see merit in the druidic gathering as a means to promote growth and life.
Eager to see his theories put into practice, Yegrut assured Him that he would be careful and plucking a blade of grass, Yegrut determined he would start simple..by repurposing the 'enlarge' spell to grow that blade of grass into a larger blade of grass...

RoleChapter 6 Second Wind of Spring Added Tue Dec 31 18:18:58 2013 at level 35:Time passed and Yegrut had grown in experience if not size. Having taken up a spot on a branch of the Great Tree of the Outlanders, Yegrut was kept occupied defending his new home from attacks from Imperial armies and even the occassional raid by the Tribunals. He grew to trust and love all his new companions but still his spirit felt unfulfilled for he was no closer to discovering his way.
One day as he and one of his fellow Outlanders, cresol one of the wardens were adventuring in the frigid wastes, a voice spoke to them both from the very air. A voice that they both could recognize immediately as that of Strienat Greenhoof. The Awakened One informed them that He had a great task for them both. For Yegrut he wished to know how he would bring life and growth to Thera and also tasked him with assisting Cresol with curing the blight that was near his new home, a vestige of an even greater blight that had once taken hold in the forests nearby.
These tasks filled Yegrut's heart with renewed purpose for at heart he was a researcher. His first love being uncovering the nooks and crannies of 'Truth' and sharing these discoveries with others.
So thus he began his tasks, determined to figure out how best to use his mind and magic to bring growth to Thera.

RoleChapter 5 Strienat Greenhoof Added Thu Dec 26 18:46:30 2013 at level 26:Traveling amongst those of the Outlanders of Thar-Eris, Yegrut came to find a deeper bond with life but was still unsatisfied with himself. Then as he usually does, Tiggle managed to find something that would change Yegrut's life. One day as they were studying with the wood-elves in Evermoon, Tiggle brought a sacred scroll to Yegrut. Within the scroll was laid out the teachings of an Awakened Ancient known as Strienat Greenhoof. As he read the scroll a feeling of recognition and excitement overtook Yegrut. It was as if a third eye had opened within him and suddenly his entire life seemed to come into focus and his role in life became clear. He wished to become a follower of this Ancient, Strienat Greenhoof, for every word in the scroll was life a thread tying the disparate threads of his thoughts into a clear whole that made perfect sense.
His desire for Wisdom and Magic to help others, his sickness and rebellion at the thought of his research being used to take lives rather than uplift them, even his love of wisdom which reflected an inner desie to understand and improve upon life, all these things became clear as small threads tying together who he was and now who he was was made much clearer.
Thanking Tiggle for his find, Yegrut sent a prayer to the Ancient in hopes that somehow He would know how his spirit had uplifted his.

RoleChapter 4 A New Life, A New Path Added Tue Dec 17 20:23:42 2013 at level 4:His new companion's name was Lackaday Wildleaf and over the next few days, Lackaday showed Yegrut a little about surviving in the wilds. He had been out hunting when he noticed Yegrut wandering about the woods.
Taking him back to his village, Yegrut ended up spending a couple years learning to live as one of the jade elves, learning to love their connection to the natural world around them, they reminded him of Tiggle in their brashness, fearlessness and especially their embrace of life. He had lived a life previously filled with laws, traditions, customs, ceremony and the qazillion other things that kept one blind from the moment they took breath to the moment they died.
How had he not seen the shackles upon him? Even as he rotted in the dungeon he had not seen the true shackles. He had always believed he served the interests of wisdom and magic for the good of the people when in truth he had only been serving himself and chose to remain blind not only to the true intentions of the Empress but also to the shackles placed in his mind by a life lived by so many incoherent rules and order. And still he was not free! But he had broken the first few links in the chains that bound his spirit.
Speaking of his musings with the elders of the jade elves he was told to seek out the Outlanders of Thar Eris, where he may find answers or even better questions to ask than he had now in his quest to finally be free.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 3 Escape to Jade Mountains Added Tue Dec 17 19:56:07 2013 at level 4:And so the tale of Yegrut Finkle (and Tiggle) truly begins as the spell of Near Death slowly robs him of life as the gravediggers bury him. Typically when a person is buried the weight of the dirt would render a person unable to move much less a figure as slight as Yegrut. Luckily he WAS very very smart and had taken this into account by casting a secondary spell that caused his physical form to become insubstantial. It had taken him quite a long time to work the spell out from what little he could remember from watching his father back in Hillcrest and it was a spell far above his rank in the guild but he had his life on the line and was able to figure out the basics of how to make it work.
And thus he gained his freedom anew, buried in a dark graveyard in the city of Seantryn Modan and rising like a ghost of himself or perhaps reborn from the womb of the earth itself.
Making his way outside of the city, Yegrut met his match in total darkness and lack of a plan beyond escape. Wandering aimlessly in dark woods he nearly jumped out if his skin when a melodious voice seemingly from the trees around him spoke.
'Careful you fool! Another few steps and you'll be trapped in a nasty hole!' said the voice. Yegrut peered around unable to see who spoke until a leather-clad jade elf stepped into view, a bow strung and arrow pointed towards Yegrut. 'T-t-thank y-y-you, my name is Yegrut, I am lost.'
'Well that is pretty obvious, been following you awhile. What do you do here?' the jade elf replied. So Yegrut told his story with a few interruptions from Tiggle who was curious about their new companion.

51123, Yegrut's Role Chapter 2
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 2 Tiggle Added Tue Dec 17 19:19:15 2013 at level 4:Weeks or years may have passed away in the dungeon, Yegrut didn't know. His sanity slowly slipping he 'created' a friend for himself. Tiggle. Tiggle was everything Yegrut wished he could be. Where Yegrut was slow to act, Tiggle was brash, where Yegrut was scared, Tiggle was fearless. What they shared (besides the same body and mind) was a growing sense that the life Yegrut had led and the lies that had brought him to this state were a direct consequence of depending on the authority of the State to enact change for the people rather than go to the people themselves. He had to blame himself as much as the evil within the empress for his predicament.
'How am I to resolve this situation Tiggle, so many mistakes!'
'Tiggle thinkey you overthink, need escape, other things work themselves out!'
'Yes, but how Tiggle? How! I can only get out of here if I am dead!
'Yes, Yes, that sound right, be dead Tiggle say, play dead, like doggie, yes!'
And so to Yegrut came the plan. Though he was highly adept at magical research and theory, he was not a practicing mage but he knew a few minor spells. And with his skill at research perhaps he could do as Tiggle sugggested. Time passed as Yegrut thought about how to perform the spell without actually killing himself. It was a physical transmutation that would simulate the effects of death temporaily, except it truly wasn't a simulation. His body would be hovering at the brink of real death while the spell ran its course.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 1 A Bloody Damn Fool Added Tue Dec 17 18:51:57 2013 at level 4:The tale of Yegrut Finkle begins where it all ends. In a graveyard. His life slowly fading as stacks of dirt are unceremoniously dumped upon his tiny frame. It had not always been like this. He had commanded the attention and respect of thousands once. Yegrut Finkle, Advisor to the Empress, Archmage of Seantryn Modan, a bloody damn fool is what he truly was.
Yegrut had always been entranced by magic and its uses, his ambition to find new ways to utilize magic in order to better the lives of the common people. He believed that through wisdom and nagic a world could be forged that was filled with plenty. The Empress had stroked his ego and sponsored much of his research, which though he was very young in gnomish circles was still well regarded due both to his reknowned intelligence and his family ties which were well respected in many magical circles. However over time he came to realize that his ambitions and those of the empress were far from the same. His naivety had cost the lives of thousands who had died due to the uses his research was put to.
His final mistake was confronting the Empress with what he knew of the plans she had for his research. Seemingly out of thin air, with not much more than a nod, guards surrounded him and drug him off to the dungeons where for a timeless period he languished in solitude except for the rats and an occassional visit from the guard's to see if he had changed his mind. He had not. His research would not be further used for political gain.
