51029, [BATTLE] Gergan Goldfeather the Drillmaster of Battle

Gergan Goldfeather the Drillmaster of Battle
DescriptionA pale wisp of a man-drow stands here with a comfortable look on his face. Gergan's clothes are dirty, worn but otherwise non-descript. His grey specled hair is short and well-kept. His face and hands are oddly clean next to his garb. His blue eyes seem to dance and smile and comfortably hold your attention. He bears no visible weapons, but his old cloak is a bit too large to merely contain him. From the buldge in his cloak, you presume that his hands are folded across his chest.

51051, Gergan's Role Chapter 5

RoleChapter 5 Chapter 4: Hrast's Wraith Added Sun Jul 6 14:57:06 2014 at level 43:There is a wraith that haunts me brother in arms, Hrast. It comes to him and attacks him over and over. Though he fights with skill, it vanishes when it is injured only to return as powerful as before. This wraith knows dark magic and is skilled in the ways of combat and thievery. How do I know this? Recently, it backstabbed me as I slept in my hut. The curse has now befallen us all. The spirit demanded from Hrast 5 items of power held by the Emperor Niji. It speaks of Hrast's past transgressions. Of these, I know nothing.
The Emperor recently came to the village to steal the bloody head. I attacked him at our guardian, but was forced to retreat. Then he came for the destructor. I gripped my blackjack firmly and quietly advanced to meet him. Whack! He was down. I noticed a staff on his person. It reaked of magic. Powerful magic. I had heard the Emperor speak words to it before and it in turn granted him some power. Perhaps this would placate the wraith! I took it before I stabbed him as he slept. But the Emperor was powerful. Constant blows to my nerves and legs once again forced my retreat to the shrine. I was near death. In this moment of desperation, I destroyed the staff, with the hope that the spirit would accept it's offering. But, beyond all chance, I escaped with my life after fighting the assassin in the shrine. I limped into Galadon just after nightfall, bloody and half conscious. The Emperor was enraged and has since called for me to be killed and my body stripped bare.
I have hunted and killed several Imperials since that time and have left their bodies undisturbed. For I am a civil warrior and the Emperor will not change that. He came to the village for the codex a few moons after our battle. I left the village to meet him and my dagger was true. Into his spine it went. A heavy blow. We battled. The sound of steel on steel and powerful hand strikes could be heard through out the twisting alleys of the ruins. But, I was fading. I tried again and again to slice his belly, but he was too quick. His strikes made me weak and slow. I could hear my dead father calling to me. I could feel my heartbeat as it slowed and the world began to dim. I will fight to the end. Erighan approaches. I know the sound of his armor and hear it drawing near. I will fight on. Father, I am coming. Let my dagger find a home once more in the belly of this wretched man. My last memory was hearing Erighans whip crack like a bolt of lightning as he charged into the fray.
Niji fell to the elven warrior. Erighan took the items that would hopefully end the curse. The village was safe. I had fallen, but not in vain.

RoleChapter 4 Chapter 2: Father's passing Added Sun Jul 6 14:54:55 2014 at level 43:Gergan was resting in his makeshift camp on the outskirts of Balator when he got the news. The messenger arrived on horeback. He'd been riding through the night from the village and he and his steed were in desparate need of provisions and rest. He pulled a small scroll from his leather saddlebag. It was from the Galadonian tax assessor:
To: Gergan Goldfeather, Next of Kin Your Father's passing has left a considerable liability unpaid to the city of Galadon. Please make arrangements to settle these debts in full as the auction of the smithy produced far less than what he owed...
Gergan could not read anymore. Here he was tending to the wounds of his village brothers, fighting hand over blade for the very future of Thera and this is how he learns of his father's death. A bill. A tax bill.
He had always felt guilty that he could not apprentice with his father and take over the smithy, but, alas, his aversion to mithril had made that decision long ago. His father had never shown his sadness overt the matter, but Gergan knew that he lamented on not having a human son. Now, Gergan wasn't even able to save the smithy from the block. He had the gold. He's never had a problem acquiring coin, but the time and pressure of battle had allowed his dads passing and the sale of the smithy to occur in his absence. Goddamn mages.
He will pay the assessment, but his ties to Galadon have been severed. How this will affect his intention to stage a coup on the Kingpin is for another day to decide. Gergan, battle weary and sad, drifts into slumber.

RoleChapter 3 Chapter 3: Battle Training Added Mon Jun 23 01:34:58 2014 at level 41:I may have tipped my hand to soon. I poured my 500 gold into the guild coffers only to learn that his term as Kingpin will not be up for some time and I cannot call a vote. Adding to the difficulty of my task, Shormquan, my co-conspirator, has fled the land never to return. What woes he brought down upon himself this time I will likely never know, but I am not surprised at this end for such a troubled soul. If I am blackballed before a vote, I may still have enough gold to break a tie in my favor. Time will tell.
My time in the Village has been fulfilling. While it can be sparse at times with everyone being off to war, I have made a friendship with the Commander, Erighan. He has taught me much about warfare. He even may have saved my life when I wanted to enter the Temple of the Scarab to hunt a necromancer and he advised against it. He took me to the arena near Galadon and beat the meat pies out of me. I learned that my skills are patience, cunning and knowledge. I am no warrior, though I did draw blood. I returned the favor when he faced a healer, warrior, and shapeshifter who invaded the Village. I almost ran out of bandages dressing his wounds as he fought the various battles defending the head. I had never seen such chaos and blood! As twilight approached, the stench of death rose from the corpses of a warrior and healer. A trail of thick blood gave testament to the shapeshifters path of hasty escape. It was a good day for us!
I have come to enjoy the slaying of necromancers in particular. Some times I imagine my mother suffering at the hands of these vile mages in the tower. I do not know they were necromancers, but the images feed my hatred for them and make my mission clear. Sometimes I have to pull back lest I foolishly act in haste. Slaying necromancers is an art for the patient. I must kill them in my mind before my blade is even drawn. My attack must be the end, not the beginning, of the game that is death. There can be no doubt, for a necromancer is like an injured dog. Their wrath and strength when wounded or cornered should not be underestimated. To this end I will direct my studies. Though I would love to learn to detect Drem's traps, it is not to be. My destiny is to be the bane of the occult.

RoleChapter 2 Chapter 1: Kingpin Added Thu Jun 19 07:39:30 2014 at level 40:Damn that duergar to hell. Drem, the Kingpipn of Galadon. He stole the leadership! He was a member of the guild one day, and was Kingpin the next! I suppose he had the gold for it. I did not. I do now. So, do we supplant the Kingpin through some form of subtrifuge? Or do we leave Galadon and seek fame and fortune elsewhere? I have befriended a Tribunal named Shormquan that may be able to help me rid the guild of the usurper, but Shorm is unpredictable. Can he be trusted? I have earned enough gold to make us both elite members and vote me in as Kingpin, but the timing would have to be perfect. I would not put it past the Emperor to fund thieves in opposition to this, as he seems to see the guilds as his.
The Emperor is not unreasonable, however. He told me that Cabal business was separate from guild business. So, when Drem demended 150 gold to not blackball me when I was retrieving the head, I reminded him of my conversation with the Emperor and refused. I haven't heard another word about it.
If I can wait until Shormquan is magistrate of Galadon, and give him the 500 gold to become an elite member of the guild, then I can call a vote and hope that the Empire doesn't have more thieves waiting in the wings to band with Drem. It just might work. If only Shormquan can stay out of the whore houses long enough to donate the gold to the guild. I will have to escort him to make sure. He doesn't seem to be able to control himself. Maybe I'll give him 525 gold. Then he can do both.

51047, Gergan's Role Chapter 1
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 1 Background and Tendencies Added Fri Jun 6 13:42:48 2014 at level 19:Gergan is the son of a human blacksmith and Dark-elf prostitute. Normaly, one would not know the father in such a situation, but Holden was Erlaz's first customer...and first lover. Erlaz was sold into the sex trade by wizards of the Tower, but not after they had performed various charms and spells on her. Her mind and body were never the same. She spoke with a lisp and had burn scars over much of her body. The brothel owner took her in out of pity, paying 13 copper for her. Though she was one of the working girls, no customer wanted anything to do with her so she spent most of her time cleaning and looking after the other girls.
How she came to meet my father, he would not tell. But they fell in love, or perhaps he showed her pity. When she was discovered to be with child, the brothel owner, as usual, was going to terminate the pregnancy. She fled to protect her son and gave birth while living in some woods south of the city. She returned to Galadon to present Holden with his child, but was murdered. Perhaps for running away from the brothel, who knows. He found her body and the baby on his doorstep.
Gergan, which is how Erlaz mispronounced 'Luck' in her native tongue, grew up with his father. He learned the ways of his trade, but could not make a living as a blacksmith with his aversion to mithril. Mithril, of course, pays the bills in Galadonian Smitheries. Hi father taught him many things, however. One was the value of coin and the myriad of ways one can acquire it. His favorite saying was "Wealth from power is likely, power from wealth is certain". Being unable to take over the family business, Gergan spent much of his time lurking the city picking up the skills such an environment affords. Picking pockets, bartering loot, and the ways of the short blade.
Because of what happened to his mother, he is partial to drow women. He'll help them if he can as he sees them as mother figures. He shuns magic and hates the Tower and thier wizards for what they did to his poor mother. He is a fair minded soul, and respects this in others. He is loyal and admires loyalty. He is not one to lie, cheat or steal for the fun of it and generaly gives and takes what he thinks folks deserve. Because of this, he sleeps well at night and is burdened by little. He may even be found at the Inn of the Eternal Star making merry and telling jokes.
