Description

If it weren't for the ebony skin and white hair, this dark-elf would look
like an elven choir boy. Clad in various silks amid travelling leathers to
appear unassuming and barely noticed, the appearance of the dark-elf clashes
with the scents of spices native to Hamsah Mu'tazz. Seemingly a royal clerk
or page, he is dressed and carries himself like a servant to the Sultan.

After The Bloodoath

After collecting the money to take the Blood Oath, Vesztraen continued his
studies in poison. At one point he bumped into Daphrdan, the current Shadow
Lord.

Daphrdan had been spotted out of the corner of his eye and rose rapidly in
prestiege while Vesztraen preferred to stay out of sight and remain unnoticed
for the most part. Still, Daphrdan promoted Vesztraen in short order, having
him tell her about himself.

In agreement that they were equals before Destuvius, they pledged to discuss
their profession openly with one another, as both were chemists. It was
obvious who would be Shadow Lord when they spoke though, and as such
Vesztraen continued to stand out of Daphrdan's way.

As a slave very comfortable with the intrigue surrounding the Imperial
culture, Vesztraen began praying openly and earnestly to Destuvius, contrary
to the silence most Shadows employed. This served dual purposes, to reduce
the cabal's overall opinion of his intellect, and gain useful information
down the line when his loyalties were 'obvious'. That, naturally would help
in rooting out traitors if it came to it, as speed in promotion and prestiege
wasn't politically useful to Vesztraen just yet. In the twisted sense,
Vesztraen is left with the freedom to form politically useful relationships.

His only real rivals were Encarra, whom he regarded as an insane madman, and
Quiys a mindless thug.

Disposable taster!

Vesztraen (Finder of rebel spies)

Beginning as a slave at a young age, where most male dark-elves don't have
futures without becoming mages with formal training through family ties,
Vesztraen was sold as a fragile, fashionable slave. Taught to read and write,
his main duty was as a servant and royal taster for an Imperial house with
close ties to Hamsah Mu'tazz. Despite his features clashing with sight a
bright desert environment, or perhaps because of the interesting exotic
conflict, he was often taken into town and taught the ways of the sultan,
their religion and such.

He turned out to do very well at his job, well enough that his owner was
instead assassinated by other Imperial Shadows. Given the dark-elf
disposition to sociopathy where hatred doesn't overtake them, and his
relatively unknown reputation, he was able to undergo more... formal and
delicate training while untarnished by his previous master's reputation.
Since he wasn't the most talkative individual and dark-elves aren't generally
trusted to begin with, despite being articulate there was very little
opportunity for the finer points of charisma.

Nevertheless, since the world of politics and treachery are all he knows,
inevitably he set sights on the Blood Oath for a steady income. It really
didn't occur to him to look for other options as a disenfranchised servant.
