Azhelak Tul'vharun the Cursebreaker, Wielder of the Spear of Purity, Sunwarden of Thar-Eris
DescriptionBefore you is a strange looking beast of a felar. Standing at just over five and a half feet in height his agile frame appears to be horribly marred. Much of his dark brown fur is missing in both large and small chunks across his visible body. The exposed skin between the patches appears to be festering with boils. Other areas show deep, pitted scars that make you assume that this is not a new affliction.
Upon closer examination you also take note that this felar is missing a claw on his right paw while his left paw appears to be much larger than the other. This lack of proportion is a constant theme as you look this beast up and down. One leg appears well toned and incredibly muscular while the other looks slightly weakened. His tail sways slowly behind him, and aside from the missing patches of fur it seems to be the only "normal" characteristic of this felar.
His face is horribly disfigured, perhaps even moreso than the rest of him. His nose is mostly missing, leaving just a gaping hole that is partly obscured by some of the few thick hairs on his feline face. His eyes are offset slightly, though their vibrant golden colour seem to be the only truly beautiful aspect of this woodsman, the only aspect of him untouched by his affliction. His mouth seems abnormally wide, and his teeth appear to be as sharp as his claws. Overall his appearance is one that might invoke either pity or fear.

45998, Azhelak's Role Chapter 23

RoleChapter 23 Dusk. Added Fri Sep 6 05:54:40 2013 at level 51:Azhelak has grown old, nearing a century. After his marriage to Andira he has been focused almost entirely on his family (of which he counts the Wardens). He and Andira have adopted Mendos' half-dryad daughter Alauvriel who Azhelak has raised to lead the Wardens further into the New Dawn.
Azhelak's lone regret is not taking the war to the Reavers when they were at their weakest. The war with the Lich, and then the Isle got in his way and the notion of breaking the dark branch has now fallen to his daughter. Azhelak feels his legacy as Sunwarden is in her capable hands. He takes great pride in knowing that the seeds of change he planted will be harvest for many Ages to come.
Beyond that Azhelak is ready for death. It has been a long, rugged life. One full of sorrow, then hope, then triumph and love. His last wish is that his Spear, that which destroyed the Lich Draclivis, be returned to the Tul'vharun and placed on the ancient altar where the original once sat, a testament to the purity and will of the felar tribe.

RoleChapter 22 Notes. Added Mon Apr 15 03:30:19 2013 at level 51:1) With the Lich detroyed Azhelak has removed the mask that covered his face, the most afflicted part of of his body. This is to symbolize the death of the shame that was associated with the curse. It is also to note his level of comfort with those who he considers family.
2) With the Lich turned the ash Azhelak will devote the rest of his days to further strengthening the Wardens and bringing forth the Renewal. He feels the best means to accomplish this is by breaking the Reaver's branch and creating even stronger ties with the Fortress. He believes that a united front of the Light is unstoppable.
3) His love for Andira grows beyond what he even felt was possible. With the Lich gone, and his bloodline restored he hopes to forge a great future with her. At this point life without her seems impossible to Azhelak, and he intends to make the most of the time they have together.
4) Azhelak continues to dabble in Imperial politics. Attempting to create dissent where there is none. Though Duraskandr (who Azhelak takes credit for ascending to the throne) is becoming wise to these games he currently works toward bringing Kraldinor (the last of the council at this time) to an early demise as he realizes that he is a threat to bringing strength back to the Empire. Azhelak aims to turn the Emperor against him while recognizing this will be far more difficult than it was with a similar plan involving Gruna as the Emperor frequently ignores Azhelak now.
5) Furthermore Azhelak has been scouting key bastions of civilization that finds to be particularily insulting to the natural order. He aims to begin mobilizing the Harbingers and the Wardens to attacks these institutions, the most pressing being the whorehouse in Hamsah mu'Tazz.
6) For the first time in Azhelak's life, he is truly happy. Though perhaps more importantly he can properly enjoy it. His spirits are lifted and his general demeanor is greatly improved. Additionally he is reenergized and aims to spread the word of the Spearmaiden and further strengthen what he calls the New Dawn.

RoleChapter 21 Salvation Added Mon Apr 15 03:05:56 2013 at level 51:Andira pleaded with Azhelak to come to her. He was badly hurt and she could sense it. But Azhelak knew what was behind him and understood that would be impossible. He was battered, near death, but so was the Lich. Just as Lich began to gain the upperhand, Azhelak called out to the wilds and a noble wolf arrived, allowing the distraction that Azhelak needs. He drove the Spear of Purity reforged into the chest of the Lich and just as that, Draclivis died without a sound. His form turning to ash as though the Ages he'd defied the Cycle had never been.
Azhelak looked to the sky and gave a deafening warcry. One he hoped would reach his Ancestors. And then just as quickly as it began, it as over. The cold air lifted from the Refuge and from Azhelak's soul. Lifting the spear above his head, his spirit filled with pride and hope, he had freed his people.
Limping to the Prosimy, he collapsed into the arms of Andira. And for the first time in his life he slept a full night without waking at the sound of wind or snapping branch. He has cast aside the last of the chains of his slavery.
He has won.

RoleChapter 20 Salvation. Added Mon Apr 15 03:05:13 2013 at level 51:The day seemed to be no different than most. The Outlands were rich with the success of the Refuge as led by the Wardens (which Azhelak has taken to calling the "Tip of the Spear.") As he sat below the Huntress in guard of the items of war with Mendos, a young Warden who considers to be the future of the branch, he discussed life in general, Andira and his hopes for the future. When Azhelak moved closer to the road to set a snare, he felt a familiar chill settle over the air. Mendos confused voice soon met his ears: "A lich is here."
It had been many years, but Draclivis held to his promise to return. Azhelak could tell immediately that his magic had grown stronger. Before the Lich had toyed with them, but it was obvious to Azhelak that this time he intended for an end. Azhelak held true to his promise as well. He did not wilt in the face of his advesary but rather rose to the challenge. As he fought forward against the Lich's undead army alongside Wardens and Fortress alike he was reminded of the wise words: "The two most important days in a man's life are when he realizes why." This was Azhelak's moment. The past no longer mattered, only the future. It would be won here.
It did not take the Lich long to realize the strength that Azhelak now wields. "How did you get that?" He hissed. The blows were struck true and the Lich began to wilt and retreat. Azhelak cornered him and his fate seemed assured. Azhelak removed his mask, for the first time in his life, and told the Lich to gaze upon him. "Do you see the past, or the future?" Azhelak asked, eluding to his likeness to his Grandfather Izholuk and also to the hope he was creating for future generations of the Tul'vharun. Just as he raised his spear for the final blows, the Nexuns arrived.
The Outlands, led by Azhelak and Jawn declared war on the Isle some years ago. An inevitable escelation from the Nexuns filling the void left by a crippled Empire (a fact that Azhelak proudly takes credit for). The Nexuns joined in the battle alongside the Lich. Agamm, a Magistrate who Azhelak gets along with well joined as well, though on the side of the Light. The battle waged and the Nexuns were soon driven back, but this distraction allowed the Lich to lay a trap. A line of ghouls, mummies and specters were set and Azhelak was summoned to the northern reaches of the Refuge. It would be Draclivis and he, as it should be.

RoleChapter 19 War. Added Sat Mar 23 04:02:04 2013 at level 51:It was a typical day for Azhelak, time spent with Andira, defending the Refuge and the Fortress from those who Azhelak has sworn to destroy. when suddenly the Huntress called for Azhealk: "There is something you should see here", she said. Azhelak was perplexed as to this call and upon entering the Prosimy knew well what awaited him.
The air was thick with the scent of death. Decay lingered in the air, thick like smoke. From the distance his well trained eyes spotted the stumbling, uncoordinated movements of the ressurected dead. Cutting through them two at a time he was amazed at their durability when compared to others of the undead he had met. Surely these abominations hadn't wandered from the cursed mansion near by. No, these could only belong to one man.
A bit further in his suspicions were validated. The Lich, the father of the Tul'vharun's plague, was standing before him. The Fortress soon arrived to aid Azhelak, but the battle was futile. The Lich's might was much greater than Azhelak could have ever expected. As he tried to help his comrades and regroup he thought hard on what he was missing. He now knew what was missing, he needed the Spear. The antithesis to everything Draclivis represents. But during the battle it was never visible to him, unlike in the dream before.
During the battle Azhelak's spirit began to weaken. As those he loved died around him he began to remember the Lich's words in the dream: "Only your sacrifice will save them." He shared this thought out loud with Andira, a notion that brought his Elven love much pain. As the Lich retreated, promising to return when it "amused" him, Azhelak was left alone with his thoughts.
Over the next few days Azhelak's resolve has strengthened. He was battered, but not beaten. He now understands that his initial thoughts of denying the Lich the offensive were correct. He knows he can never allow the battle to be on it's terms again. He now seeks the Spear, or at least another carrying a similar blessing, to end the Curse once and for all.
He is willing to lose his physical body, but he will never allow his spirit to be tested in such a way again.

RoleChapter 2 History. Added Sat Dec 8 05:30:04 2012 at level 1:At the height of the golden days of the clan a chieftain rose to prominence. His name was Izholuk and he was revered by the Tul'vharun for being not only a wise and just felar but also one that had been truly blessed by the Ancients which the clan worshipped. It was said that Izholuk was born under the stars of Purity and that he, in many ways, the manifestation of all that the Clan loved.
It is said that Izholuk took a bride, whose name is lost to time. And that Izholuk loved her dearly and the Clan looked forward to time that the couple would have children, for surely the offspring of Izholuk the Pure would bring nothing but further progress for the Tul'vharun.
This fairy-tale arrangement was derailed when one morning Izholuk came to find his bride unresponsive in the tent they called home. She was feverish and soon her delicate form was afflicted with boils. Within hours she became delerious and appeared to hallucinate often. When local herbs and prayers failed to provide any improvement Izholuk prepared to do something that the Tul'vharun hadn't done in many generations: leave the swamp. According to the lore of the Clan the last expedition outside of the comforts of their swamp was due to a horrible drought that ravaged the jungles and forced hunting parties to venture further outside their home to find food for their kin. This drought lasted nearly half a decade and occured roughly three generations before Izholuk began his reign of benevolence. It was also the first time that the outside world took note of the lithe hunters. The rumours of the felars (a race that is not common to these reaches) scared locals and word spread far and wide. One of the Clan was even captured by human's who were hunting the mysterious cat people. As he was hunting alone, the rest of the Clan simply assumed he'd died while on the long hunt into strange lands.
In reality he had been taken alive, as a trophy, to the mainlands. He was shown off in the Galadonian Settlement as the Beast of the Great Jungles. A side-show attraction that caught the attention of a young mage, Draclivis. As he inspected the collared (and angry) felar he took note of the brightly golden aura and the runic tattoos that adorned his bare flesh. Draclivis was intrigued, and so he purchased the hunter from the men and took him back to his Tower.
over the next years the felar (now referred to solely as "Beast") was experimented upon and tortured as was the case with most felars who did not have the luxury of isolation. Through torture the mage learned of the Tul'vharun and their isolated villages. More importantly he learned of their elaborate Temples to Ancient and Tribal Gods. None of this interested the aspiring necromancer, and then the prisoner of magic spoke of the Great Spear.

RoleChapter 1 Tul'vharun. Added Sat Dec 8 05:28:58 2012 at level 1:Hidden deep within the thick jungles of the remote reaches of Thera has lived an isolated clan of felar savages known as the Tul'vharun (prouncouned by the clan as: Tull-Vharoon.)
As an entity the clan had long been in service of the Light. This isolation and incredible size of the clan this dedication to goodness was so prominent that with time it became taken for granted.
Exactly who the Tul'vharun worshipped in this antiquity is lost to the Ages. Though the crude runic carvings that adorn the now dilapidated temples implies that they worshipped the very purity that their isolation allowed them to represent.
Exactly when the "golden days" of the Tul'vharun ended is unknown. But what exists today is far from puritanical standards that are expressed in the clan's temples.

RoleChapter 3 Relics. Added Sat Dec 8 05:30:44 2012 at level 1:As Izholuk and a small party ventured out from the swamp in search of a treatment for the ailing bride they were confronted by a group of four men on black horses. The men were clothed in entirely black robes and they all appeared to be humans. Their leader appeared to be ancient in terms of human lifespans and the others were clearly there in his service.
As Izholuk approached the men with his spear at his side the eldest of of the horsemen spoke: "Do not go any further, hunters of the wilds. This land is infected with a great plague." This, they would later learn was a lie. But the Puritan felar had no reason to not believe the man, especially after what his wife had endured this last moon. Izholuk explained to the man that the plague had just reached his camp, but only his wife had been infected. The man claimed it was how it began for them as well: a single sick person then infected the entire area.
The man went on to explain that he and his party were just venturing forth to prepare a cure. They said all that was missing was an item that had been blessed by the Ancients. That they would use it to stir the elixir that would come from the ingredients already gathered. One of the younger horsemen opened a knapsack showing multiple herbs and items associated with woodsmagic. Izholuk did not hesistate: "We have a spear."
The man smiled from atop his horse. A grin that most would have recognized to be evil. "Good. That will do just fine." And with that the horsemen followed the felar back into the jungle.

RoleChapter 4 Deceived. Added Sat Dec 8 05:31:36 2012 at level 1:A man who was not blinded by love may have saw the situation for what it was: simply too convenient. But Izholuk refused to listen to council as they discussed the odd men they were leading back to their villages. Upon arriving to the great Temple Izholuk took the Great Spear of Purity from it's altar, where it had sat for countless moons as a testament to the strength of the Ancients. The blade hummed and emited a golden, bright hue in Izholuk's hands. However when it was handed to the elderly man in black that aura quickly dulled. His grin was again rancid. And he hissed to Izholuk: "Your wife will live."
The men brewed a small portion of the elixir, using the blade of the Great spear. They left it with Izholuk and took the Spear to the mainlands, promising to return it once the cure was in place. Izholuk ran to his wife's side, lifted her head to the chalice and within hours she was showing steady improvement. While he sat at her side two of the Clan came in with an unfamiliar felar they had bound with rope.
The prisoner was quick to inform Izholuk that he had been captive to the elder who had just taken the Great Spear of the felar clan. He told him that the name of the man was Draclivis and that he was the second generation offspring from a member of the Tul'vharun who had been captured during the drought of the last Age. He told Izholuk that he had been experimented on as well, and that he was sent into the village to poison the Chieftain's wife, which he had. There was no great plague, and no need for a cure. Draclivis had wanted the spear only to try to stop the impending final death. He intended to use it to become Undead.
Filled with rage Izholuk and his men gave chase but once they reached the civilized lands they had long lost the tracks of their prey. They returned to the village confused and betrayed. While most were afraid, Izholuk was relieved. He held his recovering wife closely. Losing the Spear was worth keeping her.
As time passed the general angst and worry of the Clan was replaced with joy and hope as Izholuk announced that his wife was pregnant with their first born.

RoleChapter 5 Cursed. Added Sat Dec 8 05:32:04 2012 at level 1:There were signs that the something wasn't quite right from the beginning of the fela's pregnancy. She began to show far earlier than most and the cramping and discomfort was considerably higher than it should be. She went into labour several weeks early and it's said that most of the swamp could hear her screams of pain. Within moments of passing the child from her she was bleeding to death. She looked at Izholuk and said: "This is just as I saw in my visions while I was sick. A bad moon rises over our people." And with that she was gone.
It all happened so fast Izholuk was too shocked to properly react. He looked down at his first born son and saw a horribly disfigured creature, crying loudly and covered in the blood of his mother. The large mishapen head had most likely caused most of the damage. Taking in a large breath of air and calling for the aid of the Ancients he stumbled from his tent to find most of his camp standing in awed silence. In a haze Izholuk walked past them, as he heard the screams of the first fela to walk into the tent behind him he quickened his pace. Down the path and around the first corner he found the now imprisoned slave of Draclivis and he tore into him with a furious rage. When he was done the prisoner looked worse than the remains of his wife.
From there it's that Izholuk wandered from the swamp into the jungle, going toward the Temple of the Ancients. He was never seen again and the Tul'vharun were never the same for each fela to produce after gave birth to an equally disfigured child.

RoleChapter 6 Decay. Added Sat Dec 8 05:32:56 2012 at level 1:As the Ages came and went the Curse upon the Tul'vharun became worse. For those who attempted to avoid breeding in hopes of breaking the curse inevitably found themselves intoxicated with lust. The children once protected by the Goddess of Purity found themselves acting like carnal savages. Izholuk's name was rarely said, though some continued to claim they would catch glimpse of him near or in the now neglected Temple of the Ancients despite the fact that most of his generation had been dead for many decades. The name of the mother of the first disfigured was lost entirely. The Clan blamed them for the curse the Ancients had placed upon them for allowing a necromancer to use the symbol of their Purity to become a Lich.
As time continued the once consistent golden aura became less and less prominent amongst the Tul'vharun and due to modern savagry and inbreeding some were even showing evil tendencies. The last vanguard of the Clan, those still dedicated to their origin began to realize that they were quickly loosing ground. If the clan was to be saved, it would have to be soon.

RoleChapter 7 Azhelak. Added Sat Dec 8 05:33:42 2012 at level 1:And so the guardians of the Tul'vharun, those who still worshipped at the old altar despite the unanswered prayers and sacrifices, kept track of the stars. And under the constellation of Purity was born a felar. The first to be born under such since Izholuk, who was his grandfather, several generations removed.
The significance of Azhelak's birth and lineage was not lost on the Guardians. They raised the boy in secret and taught him from a young age to act like a servant of the Light, and not to give in to the inner savagery that the Curse demanded deep within his soul. As he grew it became obvious to the Guardians that he was their best hope to redeem the Clan. His skills in combat were impressive despite a few physical abnormalities. Azhelak was horribly disfigured, especially in the face. His nose was almost missing, as was one ear entirely. His eyes were slightly offset and his mouth was wide, as though someone had cut the corners of his mouth. It was obvious to the Guardians that the Curse was getting worse and the carnal inbreeding was fuel to that fire.
Azhelak was a good student. He was also eager to accept what the Guardians considered to be his destiny. As an adolescent the carnal urges would ravage his body worse than most, perhaps because it sensed the inherent Purity of his soul. Gripped with rage much like his Grandfather had experienced when ripping apart Draclivis' slave he would have to restrain himself at night to keep from doing horrible acts. Once the urge to spill blood was so severe that he ran endlessly through the woods, well past the borders of their swamp simply because he feared he would hurt one of his own.
It was in these fields that he encountered his first outsiders. A Drow slavetrader who was leading a wagon of captured men of various races who were staring directly into a short, brutal life of slavery. Sensing the evil in the man Azhelak let his rage go and ambushed him with a righteous fury. The Drow was so horrified by the disfigured ranger that he did little to resist and was slain easily. Without a word Azhelak freed those in the wagon and returned to the woods. When he returned home he found peace for days from the urges. The Guardians informed him that destroying evil and strengthening the "good" end of the balance must work against the curse. And from then on Azhelak hunted far and wise. Exploring the neighouring lands for those with a red aura.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 8 Wanderlust. Added Sat Dec 8 05:34:42 2012 at level 1:Azhelak liked to get close to outsiders and listen to their conversations. He learned a lot of mainland Thera from this. He learned of the Empire and the politics of law. He also heard a young High-Elf praying to a Goddess of Purity, asking her to bless his blade as he waged war against evil. Risking ruin Azhelak presented himself to the Elf, who startled pulled his mithril blade and prepared for a fight.
Shielding his face and taking a humble stance Azhelak begged for the young warrior to tell him of the Goddess. That he couldn't explain why but he had to know. The Elf, out of a sense of obligation told the felar all he could of both Baerinika and the Fortress. When he asked Azhelak what happened to him he mentioned the Ancients. The Elf told him he should seek the Outlanders for aid.
When Azhelak returned to the Guardians he told them of the Goddess, the Outlanders of Thar-Eris and the threats of civilization against the wilds. The Guardians decided he should venture out and seek to cure them of the affliction by seeking out the Goddess and destroying everything vile in the realms. Especially any of those who attempt to avoid or exploit death with magic.
Before he left they handed him a simple cloth mask that closely resembled a potato sack. Burned lightly into the center of the bag was a sigil that adorned both the old altars and allegedly the Spear: the rune of Purity.

45984, Azhelak's Role Chapter 9
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 9 Notes. Added Sat Dec 8 05:37:00 2012 at level 1:I) Azhelak knows very little of the Curse. As each generation became slightly more savage they kept less and less records. Oral tradition also decayed as most of the Clan resorted to simply wallowing in their despair. While it is commonly thought that this was placed by the Ancients for discarding the Spear of Purity this is not known for sure. What is certain is that ever since it was taken by the mage Draclivis that each generation has been afflicted.
II) Azhelak is pure of spirit. That golden aura, his lineage to Izholuk and the fact that he was born under the stars of Purity are the reason he was chosen by the Guardians to explore the mainlands in hope of breaking the Curse. This aside the Curse does have adverse affects on him. Pushing him toward lust both of the flesh (which he resists) and of blood (which he uses in his war against the vile). These impulses make him quite chaotic. His home in the swamp coupled with his need to explore have pushed him toward formal training within the Ranger's guild.
III) Azhelak is a beautiful person. He is caring, fiercly loyal individual who is more than willing to kill and die for those he loves. However he is far from beautiful physically and this influences how he interacts with people. He is very self-conscious of his appearance and the shame that comes with it. This drives him to be mostly clandestine. Those who see past his physical condition will find him to be the ideal comrade. He is especially concerned with his face and aims to keep it covered at all times.
IV) He worships Baerinika for a multitude of reasons. Most pressing is that the Spear-Maiden is the modern representation of Purity in the realms and from what little they know of the Old Gods they believe her religion to be close to that of their former Matriach. Secondly Azhelak has taken passionately to the war against evil and he feels that this desire for a total victory over the Shadow (even if it means the Curse continues) is necessary. What little peace he finds in this world is in the worship of Baerinika. This aside he feels very insecure about approaching her. Unworthy may be a more appropriate term. For now he will simply leave her gifts from his hunt within her shrine.
V) Azhelak wants to join the refuge as a Sunwarden in hopes of righting the wrongs of his Ancestors. He believes that civlization, dark magic and tyranny will only result in more men like Draclivis causing more harm on the natural way of the woods and the people who honour them. Furthermore he has reason to believe the Lich Draclivis still exists. If this is the case he intends to find him and avenge his people through his destruction.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 10 Notes. Added Sat Dec 8 05:39:39 2012 at level 1:VI) Azhelak is very well spoken. While his physical appearance is detrimental and ugly he tries to at least be presentable in speech, often sounding more like a human than a felar. This is a testament to his ability to adapt to his nature and mimic the speech patterns of those around him. However when he becomes enraged or angry he often slips back into a more simple tongue, making it easy to tell when he is angry.
VII) Azhelak has sworn off all luxuries of modern society. He wants nothing to do with gold which he regards as nothing more than a shiny rock. Furthermore he sees no use for laws be them Imperial or Tribunal. He will fight to the death for freedom, his clan, and his Goddess.
As Azhelak's life continues this role will be periodically updated with both story and more indepth notes on his quest, struggles, victories and triumphs.

RoleChapter 11 Warden. Added Mon Jan 28 21:33:47 2013 at level 51:Azhelak has grown to be middle aged by Felar standards. In this time he has accomplished much. Most notably of which is becoming a Warden of the Outlanders. During which he has met key individuals in his young life. They are as follows:
Auldr: Sunwarden of the Refuge and bringer of change to the Outlands. While Azhelak was first intrigued and inspired by Auldr's plans to embrace dwarves and Paladins he has recently been discouraged by the leader of the Warden's branch. It is obvious to Azhelak that Auldr does not trust him because of his curse. Azhelak endures daily conversations in which he is reminded that if his curse should lead to unwanted bloodshed that he will be "cut off" from the Ancients. A notion that Azhelak finds amusing as he feels it is the Ancients who have cursed him. Overall Azhelak thinks well of Auldr but finds it strange to have a "brother" who does not trust him and ultimately whom he cannot trust as well.
Andira: Azhelak's secret. Azhelak's beacon of hope. Azhelak's love. He first met her after feeding on the blood of the vile to quiet the urges of his curse. Longing for relief from his affliction he sought her and Oshui and found a sense of hope he'd been lacking in his quest. Upon telling Auldr how Andira convinced him to fight on and to approach the Goddess Baerinika, he was told that Andira should "offend" him, as she does the Ancients, through her conjuration craft. But she does not. How could a wretched beast like Azhelak ever question the purity of a High-born Elven Prophet of the Light? And so he has stayed close to her at all times. Hiding their talks from all except Baerinika. Andira is a self described "mess" and as far as Azhelak can tell her selflessness is both a blessing and a type of curse itself. He intends to be the first in her life to put her well-being ahead of his own, despite her aggressive objections. His love for her grows daily, though he keeps this to himself. She is with Oshui, and even despite that what would a beautiful Elven woman do with a horribly disfigured felar swampdweller?
Brakrar: Azhelak's first true friend in the Tree. A felar, like himself, who has earned his loyalty through years of hunting together. Azhelak considers him a brother, despite his home on a different branch, and will take a life (or give his own) for the young warrior.

RoleChapter 12 Initiate. Added Mon Jan 28 21:34:44 2013 at level 51:In his early years Azhelak was ashamed to approached the Spearmaiden Baerinika. As he felt unworthy and shamed due to his affliction. After his talks with Andira he overcame this through courage of the spirit. He realized that he was not defined by what his Ancestors had done but rather by what he would do in spite of it. With this in mind he approached the noble Goddess with pride and was met with honour and titled as an Initiate of the Jaguar.
Andira had warned Azhelak that Baerinika is cold. This was not the young felar's reaction to her holy presence. Instead he finds the Goddess to be fiercly dedicated to the cause. A bastion of strength, of total and complete focus. This intensity was an ideal example for Azhelak, who was struggling not only with the urges associated with his curse, but also with a flood of new emotions he never expected to experience during his journey. The Goddess told him to organize a means to overcome his urges, and she would help him to find the Lich (if he still exists) that defiled the Spear of the Tul'vharun and subsequently began the curse.
Refocused from his talks with the Goddess it was quite obvious what must next be done: Azhelak must stop giving in to the curse and shedding blood for the hours of peace it buys him. He has often told Andira that he has no master. Not Auldr, not the Ancients. But this has never been a truthful statement as he has often made these macabre sacrifices to his affliction out of fear of what might happen if he abstained. Now that this realization has been made Azhelak is determined to truly be free. And the only way he can do that is to fight, for better or worse.
And so once he is ready, he will set out into the darkest of swamps and spent many days with his urges until they consume him. He will fight his curse until it loses this control over him or he is dead. While this will not free the Tul'vharun it will clear his mind and allow him a personal sense of purity that will focus him for what comes next: Draclivis, the Lich.
Should he succeed he will continue to hunt the darkness with the same passion he does now. But it will be out of his own desires, not these barbaric urges. Despite the risk, Azhelak is at peace with this decision and he will begin his fight as soon as he gets to speak with Andira. In case it ends badly, he does not wish to leave anything unsaid.

RoleChapter 13 Sunwarden. Added Sun Feb 10 03:24:11 2013 at level 51:Azhelak went to seek advice from the Spearmaiden on his quest. He was finding himself doubting his plans. The darkness that was a part of him, of all the Tul'vharun, was his main motivation in life. It was made him the hunter he had become. He sought vile blood and found it not out of a sense of duty, or even rage, but rather out of necessity. If he did not feed this curse he was apt to do something horrible to people he cared about. If he were free of this powerful catalyst would he be the same man? Andira did her best to put these fears at ease but ultimately he knew it would be his Goddess who would provide him with the proper insight to do what must be done.
However, upon greeting the Spearmaiden he found an unfamiliar figure in the Misty Ruins, that of the Caller of Ancients, the Mother of the Cycle, Amaranthe. Fearing that he had angered the Ancients of the Sun he stood momentarily awe-struck, but was soon greeted with words that the Ancients had chosen him to lead the Wardens into the next cycle. Humbled and honoured Azhelak was quick to accept, however at his Goddess' wise direction he poured out his soul to Amaranthe. Speaking openly (for the first time) about his love for Andira, his hatred of the Reavers (and even a few Harbingers), the weight of his curse and hopes for a better life for all Therans.
This honesty was met with understanding. Amaranthe told him that Auldr had begun a season of strife and she understood that Azhelak must continue it. And so Azhelak the Mistdweller was named Sunwarden of Thar-Eris. The felar of the deep wilds who lived his entire life thinking he was cursed by the Ancients now carried their blessing.
Upon Amaranthe's depature Azhelak spoke about his affliction, his doubt for a cure, and about Andira to the spearmaiden. In her words he found the resolve to cast aside the chains of these urges. The hour of his trial was near, and for the first time he was at peace with this.

RoleChapter 14 Fight. Added Sun Feb 10 03:25:27 2013 at level 51:Azhelak has long said (even boasted) that he is a free man. Until this day that was not true. He has long been a slave to the same darkness which has forced the Tul'vharun to commit horrible deeds of lust and blood for more generations than most can count. Azhelak had a difficult decision to make: would he go into the swamps and let these urges consume him, and attempt to defeat them alone? Or would he allow Andira to aid him at the risk of hurting her? Baerinika simplified this dilemma for him by stating the obvious: Even if he goes alone, Andira will follow to the end of the realm. And if Azhelak in a dark cellar is dangerous to her, imagine him in an open swamp.
And so with this, after a brief and familiar talk, Azhelak agreed and he and Andira set out for her home. The darkness was dormant in Azhelak, as he had just fed upon the blood of the Orc Chieftain Uhrungh. Andira, however, had other plans. Using a sort of blood magic she roused the darkness with her beauty and her words.
What happened next is difficult to explain. Azhelak began to lose control of his own body. As his paws would move, controlled by the darkness, he would fight to bring them back. Every muscle in his body contracted as he fought with the darkness over the freedom of his form. The darkness taunted the nearly nude Andira, who pressed against him, while taunting Azhelak subconsciously. Images flashed in his mind of the darkness using his body to defile Andira's flesh before ripping out her throat. It showed him hunting Warden's in the Prosimy. He saw exactly what the darkness intended and he knew he had to fight. He had to save Andira. He had to save himself.
He heard the voice of the Spearmaiden: "I walk with you." He saw the line of his people, back to the beginning. He saw the looks of despair on the old, and the looks of hope on the disfigured faces of the young. From his eyes he saw the darkness placing his claw at Andira's throat. To his horror she did not back away, but rather turned her head to offer it a greater access. As he saw the first drops of blood he knew it was now or never. He mustered everything he had and shoved the darkness from him. He fought. He battled. He won.

RoleChapter 15 Freedom. Added Sun Feb 10 03:27:03 2013 at level 51:Azhelak collapsed, he slept for many hours. But when he woke he saw the world through new eyes and the first thing he saw was Andira's face. He appeared exhausted, which he was, but he was also confused. Imagine for a moment that every thought you had was shared with someone else. In this case the curse that devestated the Tul'vharun. Imagine your entire life never knowing true freedom despite no chains resting upon your flesh. This is how Azhelak felt. For the first time he knew freedom and the feeling intoxicated him.
It is important to note that the curse is not broken. The Ancestral Curse still settles upon his form, reminding him of the Tul'vharun's plight. If he were to breed, his offspring would carry the same darkness he just defeated. The same disfigurement. What he managed to do was free himself from the darkness' influence. He no longer has urges to compulsively shed blood, nor does he ever lust for the sins of the flesh. He is free to do what he must to see the curse formally broken from the Tul'vharun and that is to find Draclivis, the mage who stole the Spear of Purity and used it to become an abomination. It is believed that the Lich still lives and Azhelak intends to find him and send him to the hells. While even this may not break the curse it will at least let Azhelak die knowing he did all he could for his people.
This newfound freedom has also filled Azhelak's mind with grandiose plans. He intends to start a series of attacks on establishments of civilization that he finds overly offensive. The first of these targets he chose after a conversation with Andira: the Brothels of Hamsah mu'Tazz. He intends liberate and burn the whorehouse and hopes Andira will organize the Acolytes to care for the women once they are free. Further thoughts on this has Azhelak wanting to create a new community, a second refuge built on the principles of absolute freedom. A place where those who feel they have no choice but to sell their bodies, or to fight in the arenas, or to be slaves in the fields of the tryants, can go and live in accordance with the natural order.
He is currently planning his strike on Hamsah. He considers this the start of a new dawn, not only for him but for the Wardens and maybe... just maybe, for Andira. He organizes the Wardens to send the first message of this new dawn. "Let our legacies be written in the blood of the tyrants!" Azhelak said to a large gathering of Wardens and Harbingers. "Let us carve a new world from the hollow existence that they call civlization!"
Free at least. Free at last.

45991, Azhelak's Role Chapter 16
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 16 Love. Added Sun Mar 3 23:11:52 2013 at level 51:There have been several developments in Azhelak's life that are of important significance to his saga. The most surprising of these to him is the evolution of his relationship with Andira. While he has loved the Elf since first sight he never considered that one such as her would ever feel the same. It seems he was wrong, as Andira confessed her feelings to him after a long conversation about the future and what it may hold. Had she not done this it is quite possible that Azhelak would have never told her the true depths of his feelings. This is a testament to the damage the curse has inflicted upon his self-worth and image. Soon after Andira and Azhelak spoke freely of their feelings Andira wished to share a kiss with Azhelak, a notion that stirred these feelings of shame as his face is the most ravaged part of his disfigured body. Andira took the hesitation as a sign of regret on Azhelak's part and fled from him out of embarassment.
This moment caused Azhelak to reconsider a few things, most pressingly how he handles himself in spite of the curse. If he is a free man, as he continues to proclaim, how can he allow something beyond his control (like the curse) to continue to rule how he lives his life? He spoke of this with Andira, found her in a crowded cavern filled with Svirfneblin children and rolled his mask up just enough to expose his mouth and shared the first kiss of his life with Andira.
Since the two have been inseperable. Spending their quiet time together and sleeping both in Andira's home and in various places in the wilds. The emotions have come from this union have given Azhelak a new take on life and his zealous approach to freedom, the Light, the Refuge and his worship of the Spearmaiden continues to grow. One could say that this love is like a spring's rain that brings only growth and strength to Azhelak's soul.
For the first time he is truly happy. Those around him have taken note in the change of his demeanor and the boldness of his future plans for the Refuge. The change is so obvious that it even gained the attention of the Tul'vharun's greatest nemesis, the Lich known as Draclivis.

RoleChapter 17 Dreams. Added Sun Mar 3 23:12:36 2013 at level 51:Azhelak settled into a camp just outside the Refuge. The air felt strange, almost still. His training in observation told him that the wild's often sense trouble before he. Were the Imperials coming? He thought. But he sensed none walking the realms. Perhaps it was simply a calm before a storm? He curled up into a ball under his makeshift tent and was sucked into a sleep faster than usual. He found himself plunged into the dreamplane, though not like usual. He was far more conscious to his surroundings than usual. He fought to wake but with no success. What kind of sorcery is this? He thought.
Then he found himself pinned to the ground by stakes that impaled various parts of his flesh. Standing over him was a figure who smelled of death and rot, clothed in familiar furs. He knelt next to Azhelak in the dream and Azhelak made note that he held a broken shaft of a spear with Runes that reminded him of home. The Lich warned him that his freedom from the urges that the curse produced was also a freedom from the protection of the Ancients which held the Lich from the true essence of the Tul'vharun. As he spoke these words he took a vial of Azhelak's blood. He then warned, or perhaps promised, to destroy all that Azhelak holds dear. The Refuge, the Sun, Andira... The Lich told him that the only way he could save them is with his sacrifice.
And with that Azhelak was awake. Sucking air as though he'd been hit in the chest by a deadfall. It was warm outside, though he felt cold to the bones. He now knew that the Lich not only still exists, but that he is the cause of the curse, not the Ancients. Armed with this knowledge he is prepared to move forward. To free his people at all costs.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 18 Combat. Added Sun Mar 3 23:13:40 2013 at level 51:Azhelak has remained faithful to the Spearmaiden in his struggle. He has thus far defined for her his definition of Courage and Purity. When tasked with the definition of Combat he had to do much soul searching. He knows, better than most, that true combat is far more than just meeting on the field of battle. If anything that is the easiest part of things. He knows that the true battles are often fought with one's own self.
The one night as he and Andira camped next to a waterfall in the Dwarven Forest he began to think of his people. Izholuk, his Grandfather (many generations back), had given the Spear of Purity to the Lich in exchange for his bride's life. This decision had plagued the Tul'vharun since and caused many to curse his name. Azhelak was not immune to these feelings of hatred, despite his blood lineage to Izholuk. Though as he watched Andira sleeping peacefully he, for the first time, understood his Grandfather. Was it worth it? To risk everything for one who you love so deeply? Part of him wished he could find Izholuk's spirit to ask him as some in his tribe claim the ghost of the felar still haunts near the Old Temple which once held the spear. But at the same time Azhelak thinks he may already know the answer. Some people are worthy of sacrifice.
Baerinika has told him that love is a distraction. And she is, as always, correct. Azhelak began his life focused entirely on one act: freeing the Tul'vharun. But that night, under the stars with Andira he realized that he may not be able to do that if it means harming her. The Lich had warned that he was apart of Azhelak for so long that he knows his emotions and his desires. If this is true it is reasonable to assume that he will seek to use Andira as leverage against him.
And so Azhelak understood combat. If purity was the foundation then the spirit of combat was the watchtower. If he was to defeat this Lich it must be on his terms. He cannot wait to fall into the Lich's trap. He can be a pawn no more. He must learn all that he can of the abomination and then he must go on an offensive that will define his legacy and the fate of the Tul'vharun for Ages to come.
Baerinika has now tasked him with defining dedication. He believes he will come to understand it well in the days ahead. He takes comfort in the guidance of his Goddess, in the love of Andira and in the warmth of the New Dawn. He stares into the abyss with a smile.
He is ready.
