Description

A rather small human woman stands here, at around five foot four inches and
with a small delicate frame. Her skin is pale as milk and her hair is like
black silk, reaching down to nearly her waist. She wears an embroidered
purple corseted dress, with a blue velvet skirt and long translucent black
sleeves with lace gloves on her arms. A simple silver necklace hangs round
her neck, adorning visible collarbones. Her features are smooth with just
enough edge to give the impression of intelligence, and her eyes are a clear
sparkling blue.

Chapter 1

Background

Mordwen had a lonely childhood growing up in the village near silverpine
road. Pale and quiet, she spent more time daydreaming of being a powerful
sorceress than playing with the other children, and was troubled by
nightmares when she slept, of demons and the abyss.
As she grew older, she began to become beautiful, and drew the gaze of a
certain young man sveral years older than herself who was himself lonely and
dreamed of evil things. He told her of his plans to be a powerful dark knight
who would crush every opposition and offer her the world. She was at first
mocking of his advances and in an effort to impress her he suggested they go
and see the forbidden places in the nearby Loch Grynmear.

After a long afternoon travelling, he having suffered her taunts they caught
a glimpse of a demon. She dared him to get closer, and soon enough they had
been spotted. The demon rushed for them and her compaion lost his nerve,
running back down the path, While Mordwen stood and met the demon without
flinching. It appeared to give her a look almost of recongition. It began
croaking in an ancient tongue which she found she could understand. Her
powers would be great, it said, that her daydreams were glimpses of a
different time, that she would make way for the demons to enter her plane and
exert their will.

Thereafter her nightmares grew more vivid and intense, and she struggled to
find a way to control them. She managed to persuade a rich elder gentleman
who had retired to the village to give her the coin needed for her keep and
tuition in Hamsah. Voralian city, he had recommended but she had her reasons
for not wanting to study in the seraphic arcaneum. She convinced him she must
be able to study the more advanced techniques taught in the east.

Her journey was not without mishap and she arrived there physically unharmed
but out of pocket, so she set about making her way to become a terrible
sorceress, commanding dark powers and the service of evil beings.

Chapter 2

Personality and development

Mordwen is governed by a resentment of the forces of light, which in part
stems from a jealousy of what she percieves as their easy lives and the
camaraderie they share. She has often been careless of her own life,
holding it in little regard, owing to a hidden self-hatred. She also
suffered many accidents of conjuration, being somewhat lacking in the
patience and care required to use her powers in complete safety. In
truth, she is afraid of demons and their company, understanding herself
to be wicked. This is one reason why she has lately taken to keeping the
company of devils despite her chaotic nature, as they do not scare her to
the same extent. She once even spoke to the acolytes of the possibility
of redemption, and her wish for a child, a wish that stems from the
loneliness she has felt throughout her life.

However, she has marshalled these feelings and channeled them to new
ends. Having been declared an enemy of the Empire, and suffered attacks
by them when she'd rather have co-ordinated assualts on the fortress
alongside them, she understands that they are an obstacle to her
ambitions. Additionally, having been attacked by a warrior of the
fortress and a paladin of Baerinika while she was simply enjoying a quiet
drink at the inn, she understands that there is nothing to distinguish
the forces of light and darkness other than the hypocrisy of those who
claim to follow the light. There is no longer any part of her that wishes
to be redeemed and she hopes to find loyal friends amongst the others who
hold darkness in their hearts.

Owing to all this she has begun to raise an army of her own, with none of
the compromises or burdens demanded of those who serve the Empire.
Several already bear her symbol and she is sure more will join. She still
wishes for a child, and her hope is that among her disciples a champion
will emerge, worthy of siring it. What she has not shared with anyone is
that her constitution has grown weak, to the point where her continued
survival is in jeopardy. She now seeks to make a pact with a greater
devil or demon, one with the power to restore to her a measure of lost
vitality, that she may continue her work long enough to see it come to
fruition.
