Olthundor Ironhelm the Cigar Chomper

---

Description

Fiery red hair cascades from under the trappings and fittings of this dwarf.
His broad stature bespeaks of martial training - a warrior, perhaps. The
hair flows and blends seamlessly into his beard and mustache, giving the
feel of a wildfire spreading down a mountainside.

Dark eyes glow like coal embers from the hollows beneath his bushy red brow.
And it is indeed one brow, as his eyebrows knit together above a bulbous nose
that juts like a boulder on a rocky crag - proudly, defiant of all that might
seek to weather it or wear it down.

His clothing is plain, serviceable, though well-tended. Clearly no tear, rip,
or cut goes long without repair. No dent unbent, and the armor you can see
seems regularly polished.

Almost lost in the sea of hair surrounding the face on this dwarf is the
cigar he holds between clenched teeth. The ashes from it fall into his
beard now and then, but he does not seem to notice, or care.

Chapter 5

Meeting Goals and Rhyme-centric thoughts

In his last meeting with Daevryn, Olthundor layed out several goals he had in his sights.
Some were simplistic, some more difficult. Most of them, he has now met. He will seek
Daevryn to appraise him of his progress.

There is one goal that he will never meet, unfortunately - that of killing Bosephus.
The formidable villager took his own life before Olthundor could defeat him (with others
or not). They fought a few times, with no decisive victory either direction.

Arratok, the then-Drillmaster, fell to Olthundor's blades on more than one occasion,
filling that goal.

A member of the Empire and of the Spire have both fallen at Olthundor's hand - though
the Magistrate was finished off by his bondmate, Bofin.

Olthundor was voted to the position of Rhyme by his fellow Seekers, winning by several
votes over his nearest competition.

New goals will need to be set forth, of course. A life without goals is largely without
point, and is certainly without depth and drive.


As Rhyme of the Island, Olthundor intends to lead mostly by example, and by answering any questions.
He does not intend to issue orders or commands unless absolutely necessary, for he finds that sort
of leadership to be bothersome.

With respect to the Balance, Olthundor is trying to take a bit more of a long-road
view. While "Light" may be slightly strong now, it is quite likely to wane in power soon.
Rather than storm the Fortress and kill the Watcher to free the Codex and Scepter, Olthundor may
counsel patience, instead seeking to right the imbalance in smaller ways, in the event
that a powerful force of darkness suddenly awakens.

This sort of approach will no doubt be bothersome to many within the Island, who seek to
fight early and often.

Chapter 4

Meetings with Daevryn

The two meetings Olthundor has had with Daevryn have gone well. He has
been suitably impressed by the God, and feels he has made a good impression
in the other direction as well.

He has laid out several goals and achieved one thus far. Future goals include:
Killing Bosephus.
Becoming a Hero of the guild.
Becoming Rhyme of the Island.
Killing a Commander or Drillmaster.
Killing someone from the Spire and from the Empire (all other cabals have had
at least one member fall to him so far.)

As he completes these goals, he will seek out Daevryn and appraise him of
the progress. Eventually, he will stand out as a diamond in the rough.

Character traits summary

Olthundor is prideful and ambitious. He has learned humility however, and so tries
to never mistake pride for vanity.

He can display a mighty temper that matches the fiery nature of his facial hair,
but will often shrug off offense as well.

He is rarely without a cigar in his mouth, chomping on it merrily as he hews through
foes or converses with friends.

He will seek out Daevryn and attempt to earn his favor. He has a list of goals
in mind that include, but are not necessarily limited to, joining and eventually
leading Nexus as Rhyme of Resistance and killing a Commander or a Drillmaster.

Olthundor is boisterous and largely crass. While he has met paladins he likes, he
finds that most of them act as if they had a "stick up their arse". This sort of person
will quite possibly find Olthundor offensive at best and repugnant at worst.

Failure was not an option

Olthundor was fed up. Clearly he wasn't going to be able to run a nice quiet business.
Not in this city. Not in this world. Too much conflict. Especially the barbarians, what
with warring with anyone and everyone depending on the phase of the moon or the tides or
some other nonsense. His pride would not allow him to simply slink back into life as a
trust fund dwarf. No.

Fine, he thought. So be it. I'll give those bastards what for, and maybe make it unbearable
for all the other troublemakers to keep waging their endless, ceaseless wars. A life of
adventure. Joining the Nexuns, making a difference.

"You want war?" he thought, grimly chomping on his cigar. "I'll give yer WAR!"

Chapter 1

Beginnings of an adventuring life

Born and raised primarily in Galadon (with trips to visit cousins in various
exotic locales such as Akan, Mortorn, and other assorted mining communities),
Olthundor had never cared much for the adventuring way in his youth.

His parents had moved to Galadon to live off the riches they had earned via (some
would say) various questionable (for dwarves) activities. Olthundor, however, was
unwilling to live out life that way. His pride drove him to do more. He took out a
loan and opened a small armor cleaning and repair shop in the northeastern part of
Galadon.

Things were going well for him until damage to his shop occured - rampaging warriors
tore through the shop and demolished it quite thoroughly. Too proud to admit defeat,
Olthundor shrugged off the derision of his parents and took out another loan, with
plans to rebuild the shop. As he hammered the last nail into the last beam, another
brawl broke out. Trying valiantly to steer the fighting away from his newly-repaired
shop, Olthundor shoved one of the participants away from his toolbench, just as a massive
axe cleaved the entire bench in two.

A bellow of rage shook the entirety of the little shop, as the giant who had swung the
axe turned on Olthundor, eyes full of fury.

"You helped mage get away! RAAAUGH!" roared the giant as he raised both of his axes
threateningly.

When Olthundor awoke, the shop was gone. Not merely destroyed - the space it had
once occupied was now completely barren, as if someone had decided it would make a
nice space for gatherings to hear some prophet's sermon or some such.

He learned later that he had inadvertently saved a mage from the wrath of a BattleRager,
and in retaliation they had completely obliterated his shop. The city officials had the
rubble cleared while Olthundor was being revived by the healers.
