Dijur Za-Kahru the Legend of the Battlefield, Vindicator of the Blood Tribunal
DescriptionThe massive figure before you is covered with pallid leathery flesh and towers at over fifteen feet in height though his posture is beginning to hunch. He floats effortlessly a few feet off of the ground but even if he was flat on his feet he would still be an imposing visage at over twelve feet. His pale hide is covered with a multitude of scars which hint towards a very martial life. The most prominent scar appears rather old and it is a puckered one which crosses from above his right brow and ends just below the right corner of his mouth. His long white hair has been bound back neatly with a bit of old leather which produces a tail that reaches halfway down his broad back. Light green eyes are divided by his broad nose and they vigilantly watch his surroundings from beneath a pair of thick brows which seem to always be knitted. Deep lines can be seen in his face, badges of age and stress due to whatever duties this giant may have. His mouth seems to be pulled into a constant grimace and a short neatly-kept white beard hangs from his chin. His broad shoulders easily support the weight of his swollen and ropey arms and each end with thick, heavily-calloused hands. His barrel chest tops a washboard stomach which narrows only slightly before leading into his trunk-like legs. Despite his age obviously starting to catch up with him he has managed to remain in very good physical condition although the trials of time, duty, and stress have obviously taken their toll.
A worn and tarnished silver medallion hangs around his neck by a thick leather cord which has frayed with age. Etched into the front of the medallion is a pair of scales, a sword balanced on one side and a book on the other. A couple of pairs of wickedly-spiked shackles hang from his belt, both caked with dried blood.

RoleChapter 12 Entry II: Continued Added Thu Apr 5 07:40:18 2012 at level 51:Another warrant took me to a ship sailing the sea. I secured passage on it in Hamsah as a simple traveler. I had gold so no one asked any questions, my cloak concealed my armors. It took me a little time to identify the crew member who had the outstanding warrant but once I began to approach him, even with my cloak still on, he knew. He drew a blade and laughed like a madman, I let my cloak fall off of my shoulders and reveal my armor and badge. He threw himself on me and landed upon my lance. I watched as the life faded from his eyes. I then lowered my weapon, placed a boot on his lifeless chest, and pushed it off of my lance. His crew charged at me, I fought my way to the edge of the ship and jumped.
I had received a tip that a man had been living in Galadon under an alias. He had a warrant for theft from years ago that was unserved. He now had a job at the docks, a young daughter, and a wife. He seemed to be a good, hardworking man. But, he was a criminal. I questioned some dockworkers about him and spoke with his boss. Everyone had positive things to say and asked me to take them into consideration. I went to where he was living and waited outside, covered in a cloak. I had to confirm that this was him since he was living under a new name. He left and I followed. He went to his parents house to take his sick mother some bread. When he left I had paid a young boy to call out his name, when he did the criminal turned. His eyes went wide and he hurried off. It was confirmed.
Later that night I went to his home, kicking in the door. He was sitting there having a meal with his daughter and wife. They began to scream. Apparently he had never even told his wife about his warrant. When he refused to come with me I took him easily by his neck, lifting him from his seat. His young daughter screamed in terror, his wife pleaded with me. Fear was in his eyes. This was a good man now. I tried to take him outside but his wife stood in the way. I had to serve the warrant. I felt a tear fall from my eye for the first time since I was a boy as I snapped his neck. I lowered his lifeless body to the ground and left them to mourn. Justice is served.

RoleChapter 11 Journal Entry II - Serving Warrants Added Thu Apr 5 07:36:30 2012 at level 51:I have recently received the position of Vindicator. It is an immense honor trumped only by the position of Provost itself. It is taking a lot of getting used to, especially since I was groomed to take the investigators path instead. I dont see that has happening in my lifetime though. I grow old and my body isnt what it once was, Provost Yantha does a fine job and still seems to have the fire of youth in her. If she were ever to step down I would gladly take her post. A good woman, the Provost. Good at her job to.
The change to Vindicator is one that I dont regret and one that was needed, I believe. A shame I cant wear both badges, I would love to be able to write warrants. I guess leaving behind the stress of the investigation has taken a weight off of my shoulders but I always enjoyed it. Still, some people in Thera dont realize that I cant place warrants so they behave when I am around, even when I am alone. It is hard to witness a crime while there is nothing I can do, even harder when the crime is against me directly. Ive been attacked in the cities and all that I can do is run away. Ive sent some posters out and people seem to be responding to the call for applications. I hope we can thicken our ranks soon.
I recently had to serve three warrants. One took me to a cave in the woods near Seantryn Modan. An old man who had spent his entire life running from the law, he didnt even remember what the warrant was issued for. I sat and spoke with him for a few hours. A wise man who made a mistake and his fear of having the warrant served had ruined his life. Punishment itself but I still had a duty to carry out. He seemed grateful that I took the time to speak with him. Then I ran him through. He can rest now, finally, no longer pursued by the law.

RoleChapter 10 A leather journal, onyx star emblazoned with the scales of justice on the cover. Added Thu Apr 5 07:33:18 2012 at level 51:Mother told me that I should go and speak with a priestess once and awhile, just to relieve my stress but Ive never found religion. It may be helpful but they make me a little uncomfortable. Maybe it is jealousy, I dont know. When I told her that, she made me promise to at least start to keep a journal so here it is. Im not fond of the idea but I respect my mother and she is growing old. Her time is limited so I do what I can to keep her happy. Hopefully this helps. Im sure Ill jump around in thoughts while I write these entries but they are only mine to see.
About religion. I wonder if there is a god or goddess out there for me somewhere. There is a statue in the Spire that I often think about when I pass it. It is Lady Justice, blind in her duty. Sword in one hand, scale in the other. I wonder if it would be silly to pray to the very thing I believe in, represented by her. Order, justice, duty. Anyway. In my eyes, I am the embodiment of the law. As she is, I stand blind with sword and scale. Unbiased, fair, just, but firm. Something to think about, I guess.
Duty can be hard at times. I was thanked once for my duty but spat upon more times than I could count. I have been called a liar, lied to, spat upon, accused of taking sides, and much worse. People make personal attacks against us when they are not pleased with the outcome of an investigation. The job isnt personal though, I stay blind. I simply place things upon the scales and weigh them. Well, I did. I guess that isnt my job anymore. I still remain unbiased though, or try at least. I dont care if they are an elf or a drow, a giant of the sea or one of fire. Besides, from my experience some of the worst people have been those that claim to fight against the darkness.

RoleChapter 9 Looking to a Different Badge: Father Wins Added Thu Mar 22 20:01:53 2012 at level 51:Dijurs father had fallen ill so he took a little bit of time off duty to be with him. Many of the family came, no one was sure if he would survive. It always seems as if when his kind get sick they always suffer more than others.
Dijur had always had a great relationship with his parents. While his father was very stern, he also loved him very much. He was able to install into Dijur a great many values regarding daily life and service. Lessons that he holds dear to this very day. Dijur spent a lot of time at his fathers side while he was being tended to by herbalists provided by the mayors office. Because of his long and faithful service in the city guard, they had always taken good care of the family. While at his side his father began pressing about Dijur earning the badge of the vindicator again. He went on about how criminals think they are safe just because they leave the cities, that their crimes had to be punished. The more he spoke, the more Dijur agreed with him.
Dijurs mother was not very happy when he told her that he was going to focus on the Vindicators badge instead of that of the Justiciar but she accepted it. He explained to her that he would be very honored if he was chosen for either one regardless.
Dijurs father made a slow recovery and still isnt back to work but thanks to his years of physical training and the great care provided by the mayors office, he should make a full recovery.

40050, Dijur's Role Chapter 1
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 1 A Soldier is Born Added Sat Feb 4 06:47:30 2012 at level 8:Dijur Za-Kahru was born in Galadon to a pair of loving cloud giant parents. His mother was a healer at a local temple and his father was a lieutenant in the city guard, a service that causes much pride in his family. For generations, as far back as his family can remember, they have served to maintain order in various communities in Thera.
The legend that his family passes on from parent to child was that many years ago they served as personal guards for a tribal leader. An elder of the family had given his life to protect the life of the tribal leader and because of his dedication to service his family was bestowed the name Za which was translated to sentry or sentinel. As time went on the tribe grew larger and most of the members eventually integrated with various other civilizations and cities. His family had kept the tradition of being soldiers and in his family it is the most prestigious position possible.
Ever since Dijur could remember he was taught the importance of a civilized society and of maintaining order. Since his parents had a rather comfortable life they were blessed to have the opportunity to have a private tutor work with Dijur and instruct him in basic general education. The education was far from that which nobles or mages might receive but it was enough to put him a bit apart from other cloud giants. Since his family had served as law-keepers they had witnessed many tricks from those who would seek to find ways around the laws or bring chaos to order. It was a tradition to teach the young about these tricks so that each generation would be a bit less susceptible to make a mistake in the event of deception.
As soon as Dijur could hold a blade his father began martial combat lessons. Adding these lessons onto those about order, civilization, and strategy left him constantly busy. The only free time he had was when his father was on duty, and then it wasnt uncommon for his mother to continue with the lessons. As every child in his bloodline he was being conditioned to bring honor to his family name, to be a sentry or sentinel. Long ago they earned the prefix of Za and take great honor in staying worthy of that title.
Entry into the warriors guild came easily. Not only had he already been training for a few years his father was also a graduate from the guild. Dijur took to the lessons quickly and enjoyed it greatly. He will strive to excel in the guild and will also continue the lessons from his father. Occasionally his uncle and older cousin come to visit from their post as a city guards in Hamsah and he cherishes the time, and lectures, he gets with him. Dijur looks forward to the day that he can apply to become a member of the guard himself but for now he is dedicated to his training.

40051, Dijur's Role Chapter 2
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 2 Duty Added Sun Feb 5 23:51:15 2012 at level 20:Dijur has been doing well in the guild so far and has continued his lessons with his father. Along with training with weapons, tactics, and procedure his father has expanded his training to include lessons on his enemies as well. Dijur has begun to learn about his foes, the ones he protects order from. While there isnt a specific race his father teaches him the traits of those who would threaten order and civilization.
Those who spend a lot of time in the wilds should be regarded with caution, they may have forgotten how important it is to maintain civilization, commerce, and trade. There are also those who put their personal agendas above the greater good and bring their wars to the protected cities, those blinded by both light and darkness. Dijur makes no distinction between the two, the only thing that is important is maintaining order and protecting civilization. There are the thieves, thugs, and murderers who threaten honest citizens who abide by the law. There are those who have dedicated their entire lives to destroying civilization and order, razing the very cities that offer so much to Thera. These are the true foes.
Honest citizens are to be treated with respect, kindness, and protected. Criminals are to be dealt with harshly and without remorse, pity, or mercy. Dijur has recently turned his attention to the Blood Tribunal and feels a calling to serve not only as guardian and executioner but also as judge. Generally his family has been content to serve in the city guard but Dijur feels a different calling, one that has made his parents extremely proud. As of yet it isnt Dijurs job to deliver punishment to those who violate the laws but he will play his part as an honest and upstanding citizen and work towards joining with the Spire in their duties as a Magistrate.

40052, Dijur's Role Chapter 3
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 3 Pride and Honor Added Tue Feb 7 22:15:52 2012 at level 32:Dijur has been accepted into the Spire as a Magistrate. He is very proud of his position and feels as if he has brought a great honor to his family. When he told his father there was a celebration and family from all of Thera came to attend. His family has always been in service in some form and his joining the Tribunal was the greatest honor that he could have brought to his family. He is not just a member of the city guard but a Magistrate. He has also recently been moved from Seantryn to Voralian and hopes that one day he might serve in Galadon.
Dijur has traveled with a lot of different people and has managed to remain impartial to their politics. However, he does intend to protect whoever he is traveling with at the time and this has brought some heated words. He will not defend someone because he believes one party is right and the other wrong, it is because he is in their company and he feels it is his duty.
Dijur has seen the world much more now, from several angels he had not before. He has traveled with Scions, Marans, Nexuns, Imperials, and even Heralds. Out of these he can relate the most to the Nexuns and Imperials but still only vaguely. To Dijur it seems as if everyone has a one-tracked mind, they dont see the entire picture. A good general must be able to view the entire field of battle.
Dijur plans to continue his life as a Magistrate and do his duty, making his family proud and earning the Za suffix. Perhaps one day he will be a well-known sentinel, sentry, or general and bring even more honor to his proud family.

40053, Dijur's Role Chapter 4
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 4 Impartial Added Thu Feb 9 21:09:42 2012 at level 32:Dijur has continued to serve faithfully, making his family proud. He still spends time with his mother and father when his schedule permits. He has arranged to continue taking lessons from a tutor in subjects such as speech and written communication so that he can better present himself to his peers and citizens.
He has traveled with many different types of people, from Imperials to Marans. While he remains impartial to their private wars it is hard for him not to view the two different. Those of the Fortress seem to regard the laws with much less respect then the Imperials do. One in particular, a mage named Polsypis, comes and goes through Vorlorian City with flamboyance and blatant disregard for the law. Guards are injured on their way through but they are always too fast for Dijur to catch up to. While he doesnt weigh their other actions, and doesnt really care to, the Imperials seem like much better citizens. Though this is not true for all, he has met some from the Fortress that seem to respect the laws, order, and civilization even more so then the Imperials do. This is what earns Dijurs respect.
Polsypis refuses to turn himself in which is a new tactic that Dijur has learned from his father. His father taught him that sometimes one must play on the blinders of criminals. If they are known to be of a goodly soul sometimes they can be reasoned with. They tend to dislike harming innocent people and if that is brought to their attention they may turn themselves in. Korvo had done just that.
A thing such as innocence or vileness still seems foreign to Dijur and he doesnt fully grasp why some even wage wars over such things. If it does not violate a law, who cares what someone does? There must be an order to things, even if it is a pecking order which prays on the weak or a hierarchy which rewards kindness. While Dijur is generally nice to others he doesnt do so because he feels he must, it is just how he is. He will just as quickly run his blade through someone regardless of morals, race, or affiliation if they threaten the things he holds dear.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 5 A Sentry of Some Renown Added Wed Feb 15 21:12:00 2012 at level 41:Dijur has earned many new scars and with those scars, many tales. Life in the Spire hasnt been easy but nor has it taxed him into submission. He still stands strong and ready to uphold his values. Dijur still makes it a habit to visit his parents when he can, who still live in Galadon. His parents express nothing but pride when they speak of Dijur, their family name has even become known through all of Thera which is an honor his family cherishes.
The halls of the Spire have becoming increasingly empty, during the time Dijur is on duty at least. It seems with the retirement of elder magistrates, new ones are not taking up their badges. Dijur hopes that it is just a downswing and that they will recover, he is often facing numerous foes alone and the help would be welcome. Dijur hopes that he might be assigned to his hometown of Galadon soon and desires to one day wear a Justiciars badge and as such he has begun taking lessons on investigation.
Dijur continues to take lessons from his father and tutors, honing his speech and law-enforcement abilities. Still taking great pride in his job, Dijur remains just as dedicated as his first day.

40055, Dijur's Role Chapter 6
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 6 A Scarred Sentinel Added Fri Feb 24 08:35:47 2012 at level 50:Dijurs life in the Spire went through a rather rough patch. He seemed to be always outnumbered and people who he didnt view as foes seemed to always want to pick fights. However, he toughed it out and remained dedicated. Now, the tides seem to turn. Odds are now even or at times even on the side of the Spire. It is a nice and refreshing change.
Dijur has recently been assigned to a new jurisdiction, Galadon. This post has brought a large amount of honor to his family and among his fathers social groups quite a bit of prestige as well. Dijurs father still serves as a guard in Galadon though a recent promotion sees him tending more training and paperwork then road-level patrols but they still happen. It is a bit odd for Dijur to be a Magistrate in the same city that his father is posted but they manage and keep the encounters that they do have on duty professional.
Dijur continues his lessons by tutors in the ways of combat, professional protocol, and investigative tactics. He continues to be most interested in investigations and has been able to put some of what he has learned into practical applications. One tactic that he learned was to be very polite, even when someone is suspected of being a criminal. This way, they are more at ease or feel that they have the upper hand. It allows more room for them to make a mistake and incriminate themselves. Another tactic is to question the suspect in a way that makes it appear as if you have already made up your mind of their guilt, even when you have not. If they are guilty often times they will slip and admit it if they feel they have already been judged. There are a variety of similar tactics that can be used aside from just physical evidence. Word games can be quite effective in getting the guilty to admit guilt.
Dijur enjoys his post and feels a great sense of pride in his duty. He will reach the pinnacle of his guild soon and while he plans to continue martial training he will spend even more time learning investigative techniques and being on duty.

40056, Dijur's Role Chapter 7
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 7 One Step Closer Added Thu Mar 8 21:22:10 2012 at level 51:Dijur has recently sent in a formal application for review to Provost Yantha and as a result he has received a promotion to Provincial. Dijur looks forward to the added responsibility of looking after all of the cities that have Tribunal protection. The new position has brought great honor to his proud family and when he informed his mother and father about the promotion they arranged a small party to celebrate. Extended family attended, including several cousins and his uncle, most of which are city guards. It was a great time had by all.
Dijurs father had a long talk with him after the party and expressed his pride. During the conversation his father brought up the topic of specialized positions within the Blood Tribunal. Dijur had always been groomed towards investigations but his father began to press him to take an interest in the position of Vindicator as well. He brought up several solid topics about the position but Dijur still feels drawn towards the position of Justiciar. While he would be honored to be entrusted with either role he still feels better suited as an investigator. Dijur has done many investigations since he has been given his badge and he always enjoys the excitement of piecing things together. Though now his father has him interested in wearing the Vindicators badge as well. After a very long talk Dijur told his father that the choice is not theirs anyway, it is up to the Divine Judge, Lord Marcatis. If He deems Dijur fit for one of the positions he would be deeply honored no matter which. The Divine Judge will know what is best. Either way, Dijur does hope that the time when he may wear one of those honored badges may come sooner then later.
While Dijur cannot control which sign he was born under, and that of order is a fitting one, he cant help but to wonder what it would have been like to have been raised as a follower of Lord Marcatis. He finds His teachings interesting and wonders if he will be judged when his time finally comes. If the Lord would accept him, he would go to Him to learn more. However, Dijur has always had a little bit of an inherent fear of the gods and that keeps him from approaching Lord Marcatis about such topics at this time especially since he was born under a sign that the Lord doesnt govern. Dijur feels like there is a bit of a gap in his life and religion may be what is missing.

40057, Dijur's Role Chapter 8
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 8 Ponderings of a Stoic, Blood-Soaked Sentinel Added Fri Mar 9 22:22:34 2012 at level 51:Dijur has spent a considerable time on duty and as such he has neglected any social live he might have had. He is middle-aged and hasnt started a family, duty has always been more important. While he likes the idea of raising a family he cant comprehend when he would have time. However, his father seemed to do a good job with him.
Dijurs lack of social interaction has left him almost always being serious. He rarely has a noticeable sense of humor and is most often serious. He has never really had any true friends, just work associates and acquaintances. While his lack of social skills might make him seem rude to others, he doesnt mean his bland attitude like that. He tends to remain truly indifferent when it comes to most matters that do not pertain to the laws, cities he protects, the Blood Tribunal, or order. He doesnt care for other peoples wars and views them as mostly a waste of time.
Dijur has been asked frequently if he senses someone about in Thera or sees them in town and his answer most usually is that he is on duty and is not an informant for someone elses war unless that person is currently warranted or a hardened criminal. Dijur feels that using his powers while on duty to assist someone else is an abuse of them. He doesnt care for their wars, why would he assist them? While he doesnt mean it rudely it seems to be often taken that way. More than once has he had someone complain about how they didnt see the big deal. Regardless, he is uninterested in helping people in a war that he doesnt believe in.
Dijur has also noticed how often criminals have quite a lot to say. They swear that they are innocent or they threaten his life. They go on and on about how he should be doing his job. While Dijur gets annoyed with their bantering he generally just ignores them or offers them an application.
He feels that he has seen peoples true colors and has wondered why people act the way they do. Marans acting like those they hunt, Imperials acting in ways that hurt civilization, and so on. While he doesnt care how they want to act, outside of the cities, he does find it odd that so many pretend to be something that they are not.
