Muroth the Master of Vision, Kingpin of Galadon
DescriptionStanding here is a human male. He is roughly six feet in height and his body is very thick and muscular giving him a stout appearance. His face is rugged, yet handsome, with a very strong jaw line. Set between his green eyes is a long and slender nose which appears to have been broken in the past. His hair is almost entirely white and hangs loosely at his shoulders. The rest of his body is adorned with both heavy and light armor. There is a visible tattoo on his right hand of two crossed daggers with the words: "Strength In Silence."

39032, Muroth's Role Chapter 10
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 10 NOTES: Beliefs, behaviors, and faith. Added Fri Nov 25 19:37:32 2011 at level 1:1) Muroth is true neutral. He is not biased by morality nor politics. That which is good for Muroth is "good". That which is bad for Muroth is "evil".
2) Muroth lusts for things he can't, or shouldn't have. While this may include women (especially the married variety), it also extends to power. He is not inherently greedy, however. He knows his limits and prefers quality over quantity in most things.
3) Muroth does not know that Daytis betrayed him to the Magistrates. He assumes it was nothing more than sloppy work coupled with bad luck. Because of this he still uses the surname O'Dael to honour the closest thing to a father that he ever had. It's important to note that his relationship with Daytis was never "personal." And in his (and his mother's) death he mourns the loss of opportunity as much as the loss of the individual.
4) The above sentiment, coupled with his odd upbringing leaves him incapable of "normal" relationships. While he is very good with his words, and a powerful lover he never "wants" for anything more than the moment. He is fundamentally incapable of interacting with people on that deep of a level. While Daytis was impotent physically, you could say that Muroth is impotent emotionally.
5) Magic is very important to Muroth as he views it as a gateway to something greater than himself. He will help mages when he can as he views it as a business investment. He will also kill every Battlerager he can.
6) While he wishes to become a Nexun it is an entirely selfish venture. He recognizes the importance of balance between the light and the dark, the lawful and the chaotic for business reasons. However he views enforcing such as more of a job than a passion. As for the veil he will keep it as thin as he possibly can at all times.
7) While he worships Daevryn he is also intimidated by the stories he has heard of the Lord. He will wait to approach him until he feels he is worthy of the divine audience.
8) His hatred of the Magistrates and Outlanders is not completely personal despite his past. He views both world views as extremely detrimental to business. He views both as a far greater threat than light and dark to his own personal goals.

39031, Muroth's Role Chapter 9
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 9 STORY: The Lord of the Earth and the Island of Balance. Added Fri Nov 25 19:35:48 2011 at level 1:The next day Muroth came to terms with his situation. He wrongly thought that the Outlanders were the reason why Daytis had not sent for him. He knew that he had to do something. His lust was not just for flesh, but also for influence. He had felt it's power in prison, and he desired more. He remembered hearing someone speak of the Lord of Earth, Daevryn. He knew the imposing Lord stood as a patron for the strong. Those who stood out from the rest. Muroth tried to find a temple dedicated to the Lord, but quickly realized that those who carry his faith worship through their actions, manifesting their will, not at an altar. He swore to himself that he would build a reputation worthy of the Lord's attention.
Also he knew to obtain what he desired he would need wealth, a powerful influence, a fearful reputation, and magic. Looking back on his time studying in the Sultan's prison he decided to dedicate his life, at least for now, to maintaining the balance that was "good for business." He would pledge his blade to the Nexus as soon as he was prepared.

39030, Muroth's Role Chapter 8

RoleChapter 8 STORY: You can never go home again. Added Fri Nov 25 19:34:53 2011 at level 1:Muroth was confused as to why Daytis never sent for him. He was still completely oblivious to the betrayal, his mother's murder, and everything that occured in the week before his capture. All he knew was he wanted answers. When he passed through the meadow and down the road toward the O'Dael Inn, he saw something that shocked him. The foundation of the Inn still stood, but the rest was nothing more than charred remains.
Further confused he headed down to the nearest brothel. After having his first woman since his imprisonment, he sought out for answers. He found the wood-elf (his "first") working near the bar. She looked upon him like she was seeing a ghost. "What happened?" He inquired. "Oh... Muroth, it was horrible. The Outlanders came to "free" us, nevermind that none of us wanted to be free... they killed the men, burned the Inn."
"And what of Daytis? Mother?" Muroth asked. "Daytis was beheaded. I never saw your mother... I assume she perished in the blaze. Where have you been all this time??" she asked.
Muroth didn't answer. He simply rose and wandered out, drunken into the dark.

39029, Muroth's Role Chapter 7

RoleChapter 7 STORY: It's amazing what you can do with a spoon. Added Fri Nov 25 19:33:47 2011 at level 1:Muroth used his influence to get a position in the kitchen. He worked for a few weeks as a cook and then smuggled a spoon back into his cell. His new cell mate laughed. "Whatcha gonna do with that, fool? Dig?" The halfbreed warrior had long bragged of killing mages attempting to gain favour with the Ragers. Given that the kitchen knives were counted daily by the staff, Muroth was forced instead to sharpen the handle of the spoon to a point, which he used to stab the warrior to death.
Another prisoner, a singer who was apprehended at the same time as the now dead warrior watched in horror. "Dig?" Muroth said, "No. This will be much easier. He turned and tossed the bloody spoon to the Singer, who's mouth still hung open in awe. "Guard!" Muroth yelled, before turning back to the singer. "Give your comrades in the Village my regards, if they don't hang you, that is." When the two guards rushed in the cell to club the still speechless bard, Muroth simply slipped past them silently and disappeared into the shadows. He'd plotted his escape for many months and he ran his path swiftly. He soon found himself on the docks, sneaking into a ship bound for the Crystal Island. He didn't know where that was, and he didn't care. He took a deep breath and found that he felt a lot like he did after sinking his dagger into the back of the debtor at the Western Crossroads so many years earlier. "That was almost too easy."
He watched in silence as they sailed away from Hamsah's docks. He'd been an unwilling citizen for far too long and he figured it was best if he didn't step foot back in the Sultanate for a few years, if not longer, to avoid recapture.

39028, Muroth's Role Chapter 6
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 6 STORY: Life as a prisoner. Added Fri Nov 25 19:32:22 2011 at level 1:Muroth never saw it coming. He knew nothing of his mother's untimely death. He didn't know that Daytis knew of his extra income. Most importantly he didn't know that the convoy that approached were lawmen disguised as merchants.
When Muroth and his small band of men did their usual ambush they were met by blades and magic. The battle was swift, to the say the least, and when it was over all the thugs lie dead except for Muroth, who given his wounds wished he was dead. He lost consciousness and when he woke he was in a cell, surrounded by the lowest of Theran society.
Days turned into weeks as Muroth expected to be set free. Surely Daytis would bribe someone in Hamsah Mu'tazz to release him? Or send men to dig a tunnel to freedom? Something? Anything?
It took months before he lost faith in freedom and decided to make the best of his situation. He could handle having to live in a dirty, sometimes crowded cell. He could even stomach the horrible food and low rations of water. What he could not handle was the empty cot they called a bed, and the clouded mind that accompanied chastity.
As time went on Muroth became a popular man in the prison. He was able to work deals with some of the guards to get contraband inside which he'd trade for whatever he could, and then he'd trade that for something else, and that for something else, and then finally that for a favour. Within a few months he had most of the prison (including some guards) owing him something or other. He did everything he could to take his mind off his lust. Pleasuring himself just seemed to make matters worse, so instead he studied.
Books were not easy to come by inside a prison, however due to the favours he was owed he soon amassed a small library in his cell and the stack of books quickly rose higher than his cot. He preferred to study history but also economics. He began to understand two things very clearly:
1) Daytis was right, unnecessary bloodshed was bad for business. He noticed how supply shipments were affected historically by the Fortress of Light dominating Thera. How travel was affected by the Outlanders laying in wait at every corner. And how the true arts of crime were squashed under the boot of "Lawful" dominance. Balance was not only "good for business" it was often essential.
2) Magic was not only powerful, it was profitable. It's ability to grant travel and unnatural abilities aside, it was simply a gold producing market. Potions, scrolls, wands all these things while fascinating to a mage, was simply profitable to Muroth. His historical studies also gave him a low opinion of the BattleRagers. While he didn't know as much of them then as he would in the future, he knew from a glance that their near-sightedness was bad for business.
When the months turned to years, and all his books were read, Muroth decided it was time to go home.

39027, Muroth's Role Chapter 5
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 5 STORY: Do as I say, not as I do. Added Fri Nov 25 19:30:34 2011 at level 1:Muroth's mother always longed for more than she had. It was part of this greedy lust that brought her to this life. She figured a few years of whoring herself to every paying customer would allow her to seduce a wealthy man into making her his wife. Or at the very least supply enough coin to gain the glamorous life she desired. None of this was true, of course.
Furthermore she was getting older and losing her figure (yet another thing she blamed her only son for). Which meant her days as an "earner" were severly numbered. It was this stress and desperation that brought her to Daytis' office, where she told him about all the whispering in the brothel of the experienced and amazing lover named Muroth. How some of the women were even ashamed that they once helped raise the boy and now he dominated most of their spare thoughts.
Daytis felt threatened when he thought Muroth was capable of doing his "job" better than him. But now the boy was doing the one thing the Kingpin couldn't. He was pleasuring women, and a lot of them. The rage overcame Daytis, he saw red, a red even brighter than his own aura. In a rage he pinned Muroth's mother to the floor and attempted to rape her, another chapter in his lifelong book of over-compensation. However when his "condition" once again reared it's ugly head he instead bashed her skull in with a small statue of Lord Enlilth.
Exhausted and covered in the blood of the old harlot he was once again calm and calculating. He had to do something, as he knew this would end badly for him. He knew the boy had been working as a highwayman behind his back, and now he had his way to get rid of him once and for all. It would however require breaking his third rule. He had the corpse burned, and a missive sent for Galadon, posted to the Blood Tribunal and unsigned.
He sat back and enjoyed a glass of whiskey, still covered in blood. For the first time in a long time he felt truly relieved. Like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He would be free of the boy, and all that reminded him of his only apprentice.

39026, Muroth's Role Chapter 4
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 4 STORY: A boy becomes a man, again and again. Added Fri Nov 25 19:28:24 2011 at level 1:Muroth remembers very clearly the day he began to "change". The first hairs began to appear where there were none before. The women of the brothel (who he often saw nude as a child) suddenly interested him. He found his work as a thief becoming much harder to accomplish as his mind was always fixated on one thing and one thing alone: the burning in his loins.
Muroth had always been a smooth talker. He used his natural manipulative abilities to get out of a few tough spots in his past. He had also used it to extract information from marks that O'Dael had given him. But it was on a dark, stormy night that he found the best use for his silver tongue.
The brothel was empty, not many had braved the storm to the isolated tavern. Muroth was in the back with a young wood-elf who had been essentially forced into the life of a harlot. She spilled her story and while it did not interest him in the slightest he used his wordcraft to find his way into her bed. He ravaged her time and time again leaving them both exhausted in a puddle of sweat. For the first time in a long time Muroth felt relaxed and able to concentrate. The next few nights were the best of his young career as a thief. He robbed, spied, and even began to make a few contacts of his own, setting up highway robberies of supplies headed for Dagdan. The sex (which was becoming more frequent, not only with the wood-elf, but also with other prostitutes in the brothel), the extra income, and the fact that Muroth was using the surname "O'Dael" were all unknown to Daytis.
Muroth saw him as a father figure, and cared for him as much as their business relationship would allow. His secrecy was not malicious, but rather necessary. He wanted to surprise the old Kingpin with extra payments of respect, and with the reptuation (long lusted after by all thieves) the success would bring to the O'Dael name.
Daytis, on the other hand, was beginning to fear that Muroth was attempting to usurp him. This paranoia was unfounded, however a life at the "top" of the West had made him quick to jump to conclusions. Many men had been killed unnecessarily in the past because of this. He couldn't have Muroth killed though, could he? His red aura kept him from "loving" the boy as his own, but he had invested so much time and coin into the boy as a project that it would be bad business to just throw it all away.
He was concerned for his position, after all. He was not enraged. Not yet, at least. Not until Muroth's mother came to speak with him.

39025, Muroth's Role Chapter 3
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 3 STORY: A quick learner. Added Fri Nov 25 19:27:03 2011 at level 1:As Muroth aged he spent more time with the Kingpin (as he liked to call himself) than he did with his own mother. Despite being a tender age Muroth could see that his mother thought little of him. Afterall he was nothing more than an accident to her. Daytis on the other hand saw the son, and apprentice that he could never naturally have, given his "condition".
Daytis taught Muroth in the ways of thievery early. His first lesson was a simple one: anything you want, take. The second lesson was a bit more complicated: Violence is a tool. The best crime is the one where the victim doesn't know he is a victim. Reserve shedding blood for the appropriate times. The third lesson was blunt: Never help the Magistrates. If you are "caught" never admit anything. If you have a problem with a rival thief, kill him. Never turn him over to the "authorities".
Armed with these three lessons Muroth was ready for more practical experience. He started by picking the pockets of customers in the brothel. While this was not "good for business" O'Dael allowed it because the drunkards Muroth targetted would not remember losing a few silver here and there between the drinks and women.
The brothel also hosted politicians and other men you'd not expect to find in the halls of a whore house. Daytis taught Muroth the art of stealth and spying, both of which Muroth took too well. Supplying the "Kingpin" with all the information he needed to further manipulate the upper caste.
Then finally when the time came Muroth shed blood for his "father." A man had not paid his gambling and bar debts. When O'Dael learned that the man was planning on moving to Galadon (under the watchful eye of the Tribunal) he dispatched Muroth to end him. Muroth hid in the shadows of the the road near the Western Crossroads and when the man came by he stepped out and put a dagger in his back. The adrenaline from the situation was almost crippling, yet when it was over it seemed almost too easy.
Muroth, however, was not as cruel as the aging Kinpin. While Daytis' aura pulled a dull red Muroth did not have one. He viewed the world through unbiased eyes. That which was profitable and enjoyable for him was "good". That which was hindering, or painful was "evil." This "alignment" (or lack thereof) made him a far more successful businessman (and thief) than Daytis and the old Kingpin knew it. The boy he'd raised in his image was becoming the man that he feared the most.

39024, Muroth's Role Chapter 2
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 2 STORY: The brothel. Added Fri Nov 25 19:25:48 2011 at level 1:Muroth's origins are simple and unflattering. His mother was a prostitute in a small, yet popular brothel in the west (near Dagdan). Muroth's mother was not sure who the father of her unplanned child was as it could have been any of her customers.
Fearing for her career (and potentially her life) she told her employwer, a crude and brutal man named Daytis O'Dael of her "problem" but promised him that she would find a way to "end" it and not cause any interuption to her earnings.
While this (all too common) "problem" normally would have enraged the sexually impotent Kingpin, it came at an unusual time where O'Dael was pondering future opportunities. He instructed the harlot to have her child, and that he would help her raise the child (in exchange for a larger share of her profits, of course).
And so Muroth was born into the brothel. The son of a whore, and apprentice to the Puppetmaster of the West.
