Boggom DeepStone the Legend of the Battlefield

Description

A short and burly svirfnebli is before you, rising to stand just an inch
or two above three and a half feet in height. Comprised of stocky limbs
which are contrasted sharply when paired with his miniscule frame; it lends
a slightly comedic air to a face frequently set in a impassive and jaded
tone. Tufts of bone-white hair sprout in sporadic intervals across the
craggy, ashen, and viciously-scarred flesh stretched taut across a frame
which is dense with heavy muscle. Two bushy eyebrows composed of equally
stark ivory hair frame a pair of large and luminous steel-gray eyes,
they encompass many reflections and thoughts when stared at closely.
Garbed in the savage hides, skins, and trophies of numerous beasts of
the great Theran wildlands, the most prominent are a necklace comprised
of severed fingers, and the skull of a young adult cavefisher he wears
commonly over his own head; the bone aged yellow and still bares bits
and pieces of petrified ancient sinew.

The BattleRager Boggom DeepStone

Time and continual warfare has forged what was once a stout svirfneblin into
one of the most feared mortal warriors on the face of Thera. Reveried as a
ruthless and cunning hunter of those who would channel the powers of arcane
magic, the Barbarian known as Boggom DeepStone continues to do all he can to
shape himself and his brethren stronger. He teaches where he can, attempting
to lead and inspire his men through taking on impossible battles to rise as
the victor, as well as educating them under the tenants of the Tablet and
War Room: the Laws of the BattleRagers. Recently approached by the Commander
of the BattleRagers, it was expressed that he was among three possible
candidates who were being watched to replace the ailing Drillmaster Tontik.
Boggom deeply desires this position; not only to further his own personal
glory and carve his name into history as a force to be forever remembered,
but also out of a desire to see those that bleed at his side become stronger,
sharper, and wanting to take any a battle, pitched as they may be, at his
side.

He strides forward into the warring carnage and massacres that await him, his
blood or his enemies staining wherever he goes a flush crimson.

Chapter 8

Disposition towards other Cabals

Fortress - Boggom has taken a deep disliking to the majority of those within
the Holy Brigade of the Phoenix. While he had traveled with them on occasion
and fought alongside them, he see's the majority of them as weak and quick to
find an excuse to avoid battle. Much of this animosity is further spawned by
seeing large packs of Maran and Acolytes attacking solitary BattleRagers, as
well as the various veterans which are Marked by them as Hunted and
slaughtered without quarter or parity.

Empire - While extremely cautious in his dealings with the Empire, Boggom
does not consider them true enemies to the cause of the BattleRagers and thus
stays his blade from attacking them where possible. Not overly impressed by
the heavy slaving they partake in, he prefers to simply ignore them as
opposed to trying to aid them in any actual capacity.

Outlanders - While the sunwarden of Thar-Eris is a sorceror, Boggom doesn't
find quarrel often with the savage Outlanders. Often seeing them fight the
numerous magicians within the Blood Tribunal, he would be more willing to aid
a Outlander than most other factions.

Nexus - Boggom has a deep and seeded hatred for the Nexus and the cause it
attempts to preserve; any claiming to be a Seeker or Guardian of the Rift is
to be put to immediate execution.

Scion - Tasked with retrieving the demonic mace of the Dark Knight Fjodir,
Boggom has begun to wage War against them more ferverntly then ever in an
attempt to complete this task.

Tribunal - With so many magicians comprising its caste and so many of the
Lawmen so eager to defend sorcerors and the arcane from true BattleRager
justice, Boggom has begun to take an extreme disliking to them. He has a
particular disliking to
Naija.

Orcs - Boggom has taken a liking to these cowardly creatures, while he see's
them as sniveling and inherently untrustworthy, he has a soft spot in his
heart for creatures so disposed to constant and continual battle. The
Chieftain of the Grinning Skulls and he are almost considered allys, having
fought Maran alongside one another
in the past.

The Village Applicant

The thrill of Battle now fills Boggom DeepStone wherever he goes;
constantly yearning and thirsting for the next wizard to slay, he
has become content and even proud of one day calling himself a
Great Berserker of the War on the Arcane. While he doesn't see an
end to the struggle itself, he is content in knowing that glory and
fame and his own inner strength can be measured beyond words if he
only commits and forges himself as the finest of warriors in Thera.
Intent on fufilling and carving out a name for himself in a world
he's lost everything in, his only fuel in life is the rush of a
good fight, vengeance against those who murdered his family, and
to remain free of the taint and pure in mind, body and soul.

Freedom

Boggom is soon sold to a Human lanista by the name of Argorian the Golden-
Tongued for a hefty sum and conditioned and trained and pitted to fight
against various beasts, warriors, and sorcerors; primarily in Hamsah Mu'tazz
and Seantryan Modan. After two decades spent as a gladiator and a fortune
earned to his lanista, it came time for a serious discussion between the
two. Boggom would agree to train the next stock of gladiators for the next
decade before leaving the lanista to pursuit a life as a freeman. Ten years
as a pit-master passed quite quickly, during this time his beliefs manifested
and twisted immensely, but in his mind became truly pure and tangible for the
first time in his life. He would take his trade and art and sunder the
various sorcerors and arcane wizards of Thera, he would show all the rule of
inner strength, faith in oneself was beyond any power that could be tapped
outside the body. He would return and claim the life of Ragvarn, and all the
others who had seperated and likely killed everyone he knew and loved.

Chapter 5

Purity in Death

"Don' think yer so tough jus' yet ya soddin' svirfnebli bastird!" says
a one-eyed dwarf as he watches the stout form of Boggom pace from end of
the stone cell to the other. "Remember ta keep yer guard up. Yeh one yer
first few, gutted a fookin' necromancer, but this one be differen', he be
a Rock-Mage, don' be givin' him no chance teh cast, ya 'eard?" the dwarf
adds in a gruff tone.

His words float on deaf ears, as at the mention of Rock-Mage, and svirfnebli,
visions begin to stir in the mind of Boggom, recollections of times past
spent in the enchanted stone garden of his village. With his beloved wife. . .
his family and friends. . . never again.

"Ya 'eard a thing I says to ya, boy?" the dwarf says with sudden irritation
and a raised tone.

"Huh? Wha'? Yes Pit-Master, a Rock-Mage, i'll split him in two." says Boggom
as he stops pacing a moment and turns to meet the steely gaze of the one-eyed
dwarf.

"Pray to wha'ever Gods yeh be prayin' to boy. Tha' grate is commin' up." the
dwarf adds as he points to a massive grate of criss-crossed iron rods which
slowly begins to grind its way upwards to reveal a threshold.

"By the Stones. Give me Strength." says Boggom before he disappears into the
threshold and appears inside a massive arena formed of dark stone, seated with
thousands of Underdark denizens. They roar and chant, the cacophoneous sound
numbing both hands gripping a barbed dagger and spiked flail. Opposite to him
a svirfnebli in colorful robes appears and the sound of a great horn suddenly
bellows, signaling combat to begin.

Pacing forward at a brisk jog, Boggom closes the gap between his opponent
fairly quickly, enabling him time to only place a few wards of protection.

"That. . . That looks just like the robes father had on." Boggom thinks to
himself for a split second before he pictures his father in the midst of the
svirfnebli standing still and pointing at him as he chants in the arcane
tongue.

A fist of pure stone rised from the dirt underfoot, smashing itself into
a thousand pieces as it sends Boggom clear across the arena, the arm gripping
the spiked flail having been broken clean at the elbow.

"What the. . . shit. . . is this really it? Am I gonna die here? I could. . .

how did that spell go? Shit. . . he's only a feet away." thinks Boggom to
himself. "Get up you pussy. You still got the dagger. Put it in his throat!"
Boggom tells himself silently.

The barbed dagger suddenly flies from the hand of Boggum and catches the
svirfnebli directly in the throat. Without hesitation he gets up to his
feet and begins bludgeoning the svirfnebli with both his broken and good
hand, he does so until the svirfnebli which was standing before him is
nothing but a mass of twisted and broken flesh and bones.

Roaring appreciation and laughter surges from the crowd at the spectacle.

Boggom is taken to the cells to rest and mend his wounds.

Chapter 4

The Gladiator

"What the. . . where. . . where am I?" are the first words that escape
the parched and malnourished lips of Boggom as he awakes in a cold cell
with a few other svirfnebli he could not recognize.

"Your with us, Boggom. Thank the Stones you're alive. Your mother and
sister were taken yesterday. You've unconcious for a week. Don't worry
my boy, we'll figure something out." says the very old stranger with
pale-gray skin.

The stranger suddenly glances about and leans down to whisper something
to Boggom, "They are constantly listening, Boggom, you musn't let them
know. . . that you're an Enchanter." He adds, "They took all the others."

Suddenly confused, Boggom couldn't even remember who he was, let alone
what an Enchanter was, amnesia had befallen him and it is perhaps this
and his resolve of steel that enabled him to escape the inquisition
which would come shortly.

Within hours a pair of drow garbed in black robes with a red bleeding
eye arrived into the cells, gesturing to Boggom. "That one. He was one
of the Enchanters." says the shorter of the two. With those words a more
martial-looking dark-elf enters the cells and violently reaches at Boggom,
manacling him across the hands and feet before dragging him out of the
cell.

He is escorted into a dank cell with the pair of drow and seated in a
single chair set before a desk. His manacles are attached to a pair of
iron rings bolted to the ground before the pair of drow smily coyly at
him.

His memory was started to drift back to him at this moment. Not all at
once. Still images and frames, slowly he began to piece it while also
responding to his interrogation.

"What do you know about Enchanting, svirfnebli?" said the taller of the
two of drow. "Absolutely nothing." Boggum responded earnestly.

Questions such as this with similar answers, after each one the taller
of the two would look to the shorter, a nod of his head the only response
before the questioning continued.

Five hours of interrogation later. . .

"He's telling the truth. Ragvarn is an idiot. He must've confused this
one for another one." says the smaller of the two drow. "Let's go. We've
got six other suspected magicians to investigate today, even if he has
somehow managed to cheat us, he's no magician of note. He's barely any
real affinity for it to begin with." he adds.

Boggom is chained and manacled and taken to another part of the dungeons
he would know as home for a few years. The fighting-pits of Teth-Azeleth.

Nightmares would creep into his mind for years to come and become continual
and recurring, they would paint in great detail the battle in which he and
his father were killed. The failure of the magic they possessed and the raw
strength of the duergar who had slain his father and knocked him unconcious.
It seeded himself as his own personal failure, he would strive to be
be stronger. Pure in body and mind, free of Magic forever.

Chapter 3

The Great Battle (Part Two)

"It seems your men have begun to quake and falter at the magic of a few
measly svirfnebli. You see, Ragvarn, this is precisely why Teth-Azeleth
knew to send me down here with you." the drow cooes to the thick-bearded
duergar as he watches the slowing of the raid with evident amusement.

"Jus' gimmah tha' fookin' spell ya sorcerin' gitt. Tha' night' is wastin'
away." says the scarred duergar, his face set on the unfolding battle as
he watches all of his men shuffling and murmuring, petrified with fear.

"Very well, Ragvarn. Make it quick. It won't last all day. The other
locations have been secure. These two svirfnebli are all that remain."
the drow says, followed by the words, "Earthshield."

Splitting the head of the duergar standing in-front of him without so
much as a word or any pause clean in two, Ragvarn places a boot over
the corpse of his latest victim and pulls hard on the axe wedged into
the dead flesh. With a twist and a heavy breath, the weapon wrenches
free and sends a splatter of blood into the air. The entire event is
followed by still and deathly silence, followed by a boisterous roar
from the duergar present. A few sentences cry out through the seemingly
festive occasion of raucous laughter, things like "Ya gonna get it now,
svirfies!" or "Get'm Boss! Show'm how it be done!"

"Step no further, duergar. Leave us be now and let us all walk away
from this. Enough blood has been shed." says Bommol, sparing a fleeting
glance to his son.

"We can be doin' this onleh one way 'nebli, you get on yer knees an' beg
fer yer miserable life." says Ragvarn, brandishing the black-iron axe
set with glowing red sigils to point its blood-flecked blade at Boggom
with a sinister grin.

"Very well. You asked for it." says Bommol, continuing with words in
the arcane tongue as he reaches into a pouch and grabs a few pebbles,
tossing them into the direction of Ragvarn as he begins to charge
forward, "Pebble to Boulder!"

The tiny pebbles transform in mid-flight to svirfnebli-sized boulders
and are sent at terminal speeds only to crumble back into loose soil
as they harmlessely dissipate against the earthshield that suddenly
flickers around Ragvarn.

"Dispel Mag--" the last words of Bommol as he tried to get out one
last incantation before the duergar narrowed the distance. His head
taken off in one fell decapitating swoop of the axe of Ragvarn.

"No! Father!" cries out Boggom as he begins to weave a series of
incantantions with his fingertips. "Shut-up, ya gitt!" says Ragvarn
before he simply bludgeons the head of young Boggom with the haft of
his axe, rendering him unconcious. "Fargin' Mages," are the last words
he hears before Boggom slips into a long coma.

The duergar raiding party and the drow make way back to Teth-Azeleth
before the svirfnebli are split-up and assembled by trade, profession,
and abilities. They comprise primarily three groups, slaves to be sold

Chapter 2

The Great Battle (Part One)

"Feh. Rotten Drow. Ah knew ya was leadin' us teh nowhere. Ah know these
tunnels. Ain' nothin' 'ere." says a thick-bearded duergar as a wicked gleam
shines in his eyes, his grip tightening on an black-iron axe.

Holding an outstrethed palm with a smirk on his lips, the drow garbed in a
silky black robe responds, "Stay your blade. Prepare to be amazed, Ragvarn.
Tendrils of magic begin to wisp from his fingertips as he utters the words,
"Dispel Magic," in the arcane tongue.

A violent crack is heard before the illusion of a seemingly real stone wall
shatters into a thousand motes of light to reveal an enchanted svirfnebli
village.

"FORWARD! YA LAZY GITTS!" rings out as a sharp cry from the yellowed maw of a

thickly-bearded duergar, his marred and iron-shod knuckles clutching an axe
glowing red with demonic runes. "DON' LET NONE OF'M ESCAPE!" he adds in that
same fierce tone of voice.

Without hesitation a rag-tag platoon of duergar split up into groups of five
and descend into the village comprised of stone artform that seems to
literally meld into the earth its been shaped with.

They hack and carve and butcher nearly all the denizens before a proper
defense can be mustered. Within minutes, all of the families have been
seperated and it is Boggom and his father which stand as a last defense
between them and the family they so love. A last stand is made just outside role + the stone spire they have holed themselves in.

"EARTH RIPPLE!" Boggom cries out as a wave of brown energy shoots from his
fingertips into a nearby stone wall, causing it to suddenly pulsate and twist
violently.

With both hands set on a glinting steel axe the duergar rushing forward at
the pair of robed svirfnebli is suddenly cast aside by a torrent of stone
that sprays at him from the magically imbued stone wall. It pummels and
squeezes the life out of him completely, until all that is left is the
broken remains of his body.

Closing his eyes as a sudden shower of crude iron-bolts are shot forward
from a series of crossbows, Bommol, the father of Boggum weaves a spell
of protection to create a mass of stone to suddenly incase both him
and his son, "Shield of Earth," he intones. The arrows break apart into
pieces as they collide with solid earth. Hesitation begins to creep visibly
into the various duergar forming around Boggom and Bommol, it is evident
none of them wants to face the wrath of that powerful Earth Magic.

Chapter 1

Childhood in DeepStone

Born in a small village of a few dozen shy of a dozen, once called
DeepStone before it was pillaged and destroyed by a duergar raiding party,
Boggom was privledged and afforded a mundane and simple childhood as a young
svirfnebli.

Days often filled with mischief, despite constantly being educated by
spending time learning of the crafts the elder generations had
mastered, it was customary for most to know a bit of many trades
before deciding to pledge to one themselves. Fascinated with the art of
mending stone with magic in the same manner his father was, Boggom would
follow in his footsteps and seek out to be an invoker specialized in Earth
Magic.

He found a young love in his time within DeepStone, families often
organized the marriages and it was implicit that the parents of the
children consented to it. In truth it was because many of the bloodlines
were so close in relation that it was only the parents and grandparents who
knew if perhaps the union had genetic problems that may surface from the
union. Nonetheless Boggom did as was customary by his people in his marriage
with a young woman by the name of Doddorrah, Dod for short, and he loved
her affectionately for the decade they spent together.

His simple life as an enchanter creating what tools and supplies were needed
from the stone he so cherished came to an abrupt halt on one fateful day. . .
