Hzerliach Sa'Razaith the Light in the Shadows, Acolyte of the Golden Sun
DescriptionA short and stocky Arial stands here. No more than five feet three inches tall, his small size belies his strength and agility. Muscular legs suggest that this assassin can move deftly and quickly while study wings covered in golden flecked gray feathers flap gently behind him.
Piercing black eyes, tinged with red, look through the shadows for unseen dangers. A small scar runs down his right cheek marring the fine white feathers of his face. What you think is a smirk forms from his small beak giving the illusion that he knows what lies hidden in the shadows around him.
Long silver feather start at the top of his head and flow down his back and is kept tied back in a ponytail by a well worn leather strap with a small golden pendant in the shape of two knots intertwined and inseparable. The pendant seems unique, almost like an heirloom.

RoleChapter 19 Thinking on Mortality Added Sat Oct 23 18:19:10 2010 at level 51:Guild Rank: 51 Age: 40
The times are trying. I find myself hunted to a much greater degree than in the past. With the passing or absence of several veteran members of the Fortress, it falls to me to stand fast. With that responsibility comes a substantial increase in the danger. While I do not seek battle without cause, the battle has been thrust upon me more and more recently. I do not relish this role but the Light wills it so it seems. I fight and may fall but the Light stands and that is all that matters. Through my struggle, I strive to provide to others the Hope to go on through my actions.
I cannot ignore the dangers nor can I run. I must stand for the Light.Even if that means I stand alone. I will continue and stand as a Beacon for Hope and Honor until I take my last breath or am torn from the land.It is a role I welcome and am honored to carry on. I fear only one thing; that I shall perish before I can accomplish everything that I seek to accomplish. While I know that the struggle will go on, I hope that the people of the lands will find comfort and hope from my life and actions.I am not so vain as to think that my name will go down in the histories but I do believe that I leave a mark on the land and I believe that the world is a better place for what I have done and will continue to improve as I continue my work. Hopefully I will be permitted to continue my work but should I perish at some point, I hope my time here will not be forgotten.

RoleChapter 8 a Second Name and a Dream Added Sun Aug 29 12:24:11 2010 at level 38:Guild Rank: 38 Age: 23
I had a most unusual dream. I was flying among the clouds near the Arial City. I found myself daydreaming of a much grander city in the clouds. One that was similar to the Arial City but larger and teeming with citizens. The laughter of small children floated among the clouds with the smells of hundreds of cookfires on chimneys as the goodwives of the city made the daily meal. Music of all kinds could be heard from inns. It was a grand sight. While this may not have been unusual in and of itself, it was the feeling that I had as I looked down upon this city that made it so strange. It was as if I had some hand in the founding and continued protection of the city.
As I continued to fly over the city, I noticed a large statue in the center of the main plaza. A great silver arial stood, his wings outstretched over his head almost like wings were being used to shield the city. The entire statute was silver except for a small piece of gold on the back of the arial's head. It looked familiar.
I awoke in my guild and discussed the matter with my guildmaster who dismissed it as a fantasy. I would normally agree with him but I cannot shake the feeling that it was not just my fancy or fantasy. We debated the matter for some time until he grew tired of my fantastical stories. However, I could not give up the feeling and continued to seek answers from him as to the meaning of the dream. I was unwilling to accept blindly any longer his pronouncements of wisdom. When I continued to debate the matter with Kavan Lassion, he decided that I had matured enough to question him and thus earn the right to a second name. Blind devotion he says is nothing more than asking to be a slave. Devotion with a questioning mind, a mind capable of independent thought while still holding true to ones beliefs, is a powerful weapon. Being my guildmaster, he had the right to choose this name.
of what he terms my unbending devotion, unyielding pursuant of a cause, fanciful imagination, and critical eye, he named me Hzerliach Sa'Razaith which he says means in some arcane language of his ancestors the Voice of the Mute. I can only assume this is in recognition of my desire to protect and defend those who may need it. I accepted my new name with humility and grace and shall continue to work to deserve it.

RoleChapter 9 A soulsearching which brings more questions Added Wed Sep 1 00:00:26 2010 at level 40:Guild Rank: 40 Age: 24
I have traveled some in my life now and have found no joy in senseless killing. I find that my calling stands in trying to help and protect others. can use my skills to watch and learn and assist those in need as opposed to simply tracking and attempting to kill. It takes much courage to stand up to those of a dark heart and try to see redemption in their eyes. It takes much courage to move in front of another and attempt to protect them from the darkness. It takes much heart to act as a symbol of the coming Dawn and the victory of the Light over the darkness. No matter how dark the night, the Dawn always comes. I think in my travels I have discovered something about myself.I am not a random assassin. I am not one who only kills because one is wicked. I am a beacon. I am a ray of hope.I am a incorruptable example of how one can be crushed and have everything taken away from them and yet still have hope and see the possibility of redemption in most people.
I have discovered that I am not afraid of a fight, but I fight smartly and do not simply attack and needlessly incur harm. I do not fight when the advantage is squarely with my opponent and there is no hope of success.I am in the awkward position of being a fighter who is more closely aligned with the Acolytes than the Squires. I am not sure how this impacts my ability to join the Fortress or if I would even be welcomed as an assassin Acolyte but I must be true to my heart and my dedication to the coming victory and the coming of the new dawn.

RoleChapter 10 Into the Fortress Added Mon Sep 6 20:05:16 2010 at level 40:Guild Rank: 40 Age: 24
The next stage of my lifes work has begun. I have been accepted as a member of the Fortress of the Light as a Scribe. My studies are difficult but I forge ahead sure in the knowledge that I am aiding in the victory of the Light. I bring hope and help to those that need it. I work to protect the Fortress and those that serve it. I work to bring the Light to the darkest of lands. I work to show my sister that even when it seems all hope is lost, there is one who will stand strong and dedicated to the righteous cause of the victory we all seek.
While I have been accepted into the Fortress, my work is just beginning. I am but a Scribe. I work, learn, and assist. I begin to impart my knowledge and continue my unending quest to protect and defend the Light.I consult, advise, and provide guidance as others walk the same path. I am Hope, Faith, and Protection rolled into one.One day I shall be an Acolyte.I strive to serve.

RoleChapter 11 My Quest Continues Added Fri Sep 10 13:06:45 2010 at level 43:Guild Rank: 43 Age: 25
I continue my travels. My training goes as well as can be expected. My Brothers and Sisters within the Fortress are a blessing and their commitment to the Light is inspiring. While I do not always agree with the members of the Brigade on the carrying out of our mission to light the world, I respect their courage and valor. My work within the Fortress has included counseling both members and others in the world on the beauty and righteousness of the Light. I try and demonstrate, both through my actions and words, that the Light is the path to happiness and salvation. I tell those that scoff that no one is so wicked that they cannot find a glimmer of light in their heart. If they fuel that light, instead of their hate, it will grow and perhaps one day, redemption will be theirs.
I have made my desire known to Lord Corrlaan my desire to be one of his devout followers and am hopeful that he looks down upon me with favor as I continue undaunted in my quest.
I have made several trips to the Imperial lands in search of any sign of my sister but have thus far been unsuccessful. Rumors reached me that she was working hard labor somewhere in a mine.My heart aches for her cut off from sun and not able to spread her wings and fly free. I continue my search though confident that my perseverance will one day be rewarded. In the meantime, every person I bring to the Light, or at least protect in the Light, are small yet important victories in my struggle.

RoleChapter 12 The Light Stands Added Sat Sep 18 15:34:10 2010 at level 49:Guild Rank: 49 Age: 28
The times have been trying. I continue my work in bringing the Light to those who have forsaken it. My life is not one that is filled with peace as I find that many react violently when I pass along the message of the Light. The members of the Nexus are as lost as those with a wicked heart. The Nexus is blinded by the false belief that by trying to contain the Light, some benefit can be obtained. However when questioned or challenged on these beliefs, the Nexus cannot provide any rationalization for their beliefs. They do not bring Hope to the people; only confusion. They do not stand for anything other than continued strife and fighting. It is madding because they do not see the damage they do. It is just another fight for me to bring these misguided souls to the Light.
I find my time within the Fortress rewarding on many levels, but, on others, it is a challenge. Many of the Squires and Maran act somewhat put off by my beliefs and find it unusual that an Assassin should seek to bring the Light in a way other than pure bloodshed. I spread my message, the Message of the Lord of the Archons, my favor, my assistance, and most importantly, my support and counsel to those souls in an attempt to keep everyone focused on the Light. The path walked by the Maran and Squires is borded on every side by such darkness that it is important that I stand squarely in the Light so that their path is well illuminated and they can always find their way through to serve the Light.
My time here though has not been without trials. The absence and lack of Acolytes is troubling. There is so much more I want to do. There is so much more I can accomplish. However, I am constrained by my status as a Scribe. I cannot bring the burdens of others onto myself and show them the compassion of the Light. I cannot save those in danger with the Glory of the Light. I ache to serve and spread the message. People listen to me. I believe I have the respect of those I meet and have come to know. I pray that the Acolytes will notice my desire and commitment.

RoleChapter 13 Pressures and Releases Added Sun Sep 19 02:22:56 2010 at level 50:Guild Rank: 50 Age: 29
It is disturbing to me when those pledged to defend the Light begin to fight among themselves. I fear that the taint of the wicked takes hold. Such happened this day as multiple Squires began bickering among themselves when some battles did not go as well as hoped. As the hurtful words were spoken, I worked hard to try and make sure that everyone remembered the bigger purpose we served and that we are the Hope of the lands. Tempers ran high but I believe that my was able to speak with them and at least help them to see the importance of our mission and the importance of remaining the mortal example of the Light. As the pressures mount on the Squires, it is important that we keep them dedicated to the service of the Light. That is just one thing I must do else the Fortress could crumble from within. Members must remember that material items are not as important as their pledge and dedication to the Light. Without those, we cannot advance the Light. By the time I was finished, I believe all involved remembered their mission and everyone was reenergized to continue their fight.

RoleChapter 14 Dedication, Honor, Purity, Protection Added Mon Sep 20 06:19:49 2010 at level 51:Guild Rank: 51 Age: 30
I have achieved the highest rank my guildmaster awards and yet the quest continues. I continue my search for my sister in Imperial Lands. I continue my work in guiding the Squires and Scribes and helping them always keep the protection of the Light foremost in their minds and souls. I continue my dedicated service to both the Fortress and the Lord of the Archons hoping to gain favor. I have reached worked hard to reach this point. However, there is much left to accomplish.
I believe I have much to offer the world and see now that the world must be guided by the principles of Dedication, Honor, Purity of mind and soul, and Protection of those who cannot protect themselves. Through these principles, the masses will come to understand that only through true actions can the Light advance and consume the darkness. The weak are not to be exploited or pitied but rather protection and raised up. Through this, they will see the true radiance of the Light and pass this on to others.
I believe with all my heart and being that my cause is just and right and that I must pass along what I have learned to others and assist others in finding the True Path. This has become my calling as I enter the next phase of my life.

RoleChapter 15 Acolyte and Beyond? Added Wed Sep 22 21:19:54 2010 at level 51:Guild Rank: 51 Age: 30
My rise to be an Assassin Hero has taken another turn. The Ancient Knight saw fit to bestow upon me the title of Acolyte of the Golden Sun. I am humbled by the selection and will not fail the Fortress or any of its Lords and Ladies. My life continues on as before, only with additional responsibilities. I still look in the eyes of every arial woman I pass in hopes that I see a flicker of recognition. I still work to advance the Light through the means available. I am still willing to lay down my life so that the Light can advance. However, now I must also care for the entire Fortress. I must act the Squires and Marans guide down their dangerous path. I must be the anchor that they can hold onto as they strike once and again at the wicked. I must be that anchor so that they do not drift and get lost in the violent seas that they fight.
My cause remains just and true and as undertake my role as a shepherd of sorts, I shall not forget from whence I came nor forget where I wish to end. I shall not waver nor shall I let down the Fortress. My hope is that one day the Immortals and the Ancient Knight will see fit to name me Elder Prophet or Cardinal so that I can move from my current leadership role into a leader of the Fortress so that I can welcome new Scribes to further the battle.
The Ancient Knight and I discussed my unique position as an Assassin and Acolyte and how this combination, while unusual, provides me with insight into the minds of both Scribes and Squires. Perhaps I am more akin to a Holy Knight than a Cardinal or Prophet. My oaths as an Acolyte are certainly Holy and my service to both the Scribes and Squires, as well as to the people of the Land to bring the Light and quell the darkness are similar to the calling of a Knight. I shall continue to work with the other Acolytes and Captain to make the Fortress stronger. For we are certainly stronger together than separate.

RoleChapter 16 Elder Prophet Added Fri Oct 1 14:26:12 2010 at level 51:Guild Rank: 51 Age: 35
Again the Ancient Knight and the Immortals of the Fortress have seen fit to bestow an honor upon me. I have been made the Elder Prophet of the Light and the Leader of the Acolytes and Scribes within the Fortress. I am of course humbled by this act and work hard to provide the spiritual guidance of the Fortress and leadership of all members, whether they be Acolytes, Scribes, Maran or Squire. One of my greatest hopes is to work toward greater unity and communication between the Brigade and my Scribes and Acolytes. This is essential as we continue to spread the Light and turn back the Darkness. As we are more successful, the forces opposing us will become more desperate to either maintain the balance between the Light and Darkness or to preserve their wicked lifestyles. As this happens, it will be more and more important for the Maran and Squires to heed the words of Scribe and Acolyte. It will become important as well for the Scribes and Acolytes to remain acutely aware of the work of the Maran and to maintain a strict watch to make sure that the Maran and Squires do not fall into the Pit of Darkness.
I remain convinced that my work is important and is progressing. I shall use the Scribes and Acolytes to further the ideas I have come to believe lead to victory and the True Path. The Fortress shall be as one and we shall walk together to push back the Shadows of this land and to spread the Hope of all the world before us.

RoleChapter 17 Changes Added Fri Oct 8 01:21:56 2010 at level 51:Guild Rank: 51 Age:v36
The Fortress is confused and still in a bit of show over the abrupt departure of the Captain Herethon. His decision to wage a personal war of vengeance has struck at the heart of the Squires.
As Elder Prophet it is my job to calm this anxiety and forge a path for the Squires to follow. I do this through my discussions with individual Squires and Maran to address their concerns and reinforce in them the Spirit of the Fortress. I remind them that we are not a group out for vengeance. We are not a group who fight without purpose. Our purpose is not to wage war on those misguided souls of the Nexus. Our goal is not to slay the very people who are most likely to see the True Path and most likely to find redemption. If we treat them as we do the pure wicked, we are no better than those we fight.
I am heartened by the reaction of the Squires. Once reminded of their focus, they see the need for restraint and actions to further the Light regarding the Nexus. This is not to say that the Nexus actions are not frustrating. is particularly true when we see Nexuns traveling with those of the Empire and assisting them in slaying even though they say all is in balance. I can only hope that the immortals that the Nexuns worship take notice of this behavior and renounce the Nexuns for failing to actually promote the values under which the Island was formed.
For our part, we forge ahead. We meet their steel with ours and we work to continue their redemption. I believe with all my heart that they can be reformed and brought to the Light. They are almost there on many levels. They must be made to see that by permitting the Darkness to exist, they simply hamstring themselves for surely the wicked will not tolerate dissent.
I have Hope. I always have had hope and will always have hope that we can prevail. Just as I remember my sister and honor her by wearing my hairband and by never giving up my search of the Imperial Lands for her, I remember and honor the Light and all that we stand for by remaining true and dedicated to the Fortress and by bringing strength to its members and reminding them of who we are, what we do, and most importantly why we do it the way we do. By being that voice, I allow the members to take my strength and use it to bolster their own faith. It is not that they ahve lost Faith, it is only that in the fight for very souls of the world, sometimes the burden is great and others need a little assistance in keeping in mind that the Dawn must surely come.

RoleChapter 18 Redemption Success? Added Wed Oct 20 00:35:00 2010 at level 51:Guild Rank: 51 Age: 39
I have spent considerable time talking to and counseling a young dark-elf shaman who has come to the wonderful realization that her life cannot continue along a dark path. She has sought out the blessing of a Lord in her effort to continue her walk to the Light. I am overjoyed at her actions and hope that my talks with her have helped her in realizing her decision and helped give her strength to follow the True Path. I honestly believe that she can be an example to all of those who have a dark heart that all is not lost. One need not walk the wicked path that surely leads to ultimate destruction and can turn to the Light and walk the True Path that leads to salvation and all that is righteous. This dark-elfs transformations is one of the high points of my time as a member of the Fortress and Elder Prophet. I thought, for a time that she was merely playing with me but I had faith and carried on prodding her, counseling her, and helping her to see the correct choice.I now have that that as she continues her self evaluation and redemption, that the Lord she has chosen to follow will see her worthy and let her be redeemed and brought to the Light.

I have no worldly possessions that matter to me save the small piece of leather and gold that holds my feathers in a ponytail. This one simple piece of jewelry has no magical abilities. It is not invisible, does not glow, hum, or do anything other than keep the feathers out of my eyes. It is not worth much coin to anyone other than me. However, to me, it is much more than a simple bauble. My life, my vision, my drive, my strength, and the very purpose of my life is entwined with this piece. The piece belonged to my younger sister, Greatia. It was given to her by a simple peddler who was taken by her sharp blue eyes and innocent smile as he passed through our village one day. The peddler, I never did learn his name, could not get over my baby sisters tiny face, dimples, and infectious giggle. She could not have been more than three years old at the time and I was no more than 10. We were not rich, in fact we were lucky to have rags for clothes and a hard dirt floor upon which to sleep. However, it mattered not to us as we were happy children and our parents made sure that, no matter what else, we had full stomachs even though many times they did not.

Although I have pledged myself to the Fortress and made myself known to the members, I have yet to hear from anyone about my request. I must admit that delays are disheartening but I carry on as if I was already a member. I hunt those of a dark heart. Although Ive had set backs, my will is strong and my faith unshaken.
My quest to avenge my family and to protect the Light continues. I have faced and conquered the Imperial Vanquisher alone. I have traveled through new and different lands. I have made allies and enemies. The former warm my heart while the latter bloody my weapons. I have spent much time learning my trades and my guildmaster has seen fit to advance me quickly. I hope that my dedication to furthering my training will serve me well when I finally get the chance to present myself to the Fortress.

RoleChapter 5 Learning Lessions Added Thu Aug 26 06:22:59 2010 at level 24:Guild Rank: Age:
I have learned many things as I continue my travels. I have learned that to be true to yourself and your passion, you must dedicate all of your heart and soul to that passion. Ive learned that there will be good times and bad times, and that the true measure of a person is how they deal with the bad more than the good.
I spent much time recently alone, reflecting on my life thus far and working diligently to hone my skills in hopes of being the best protector of the innocent I can.I have lived alone, ate alone, and traveled alone as I became stronger in my various attributes and abilities.I have worked hard and my body is stronger for it and my mind sharper.
I recently ventured out with some others to see new lands and have new experiences. It was with this group, a young bard and a conjurer near my age that I learned the true measure of a man is how he deals with difficult situations. The conjurer, in quick succession, because of his own actions in not permitting me to lead the battle, lost his familiar (which of course dealt a crippling deathly blow to the conjurer) and then he mistakenly struck a cook who did not take kindly to the action. This again struck a deathly blow. Obviously, the conjurer was upset with himself for his actions but, instead of learning from the experience and using that wisdom to further dedicate himself to his cause of protecting the innocents in the land and vanquishing the darkness, he took his own life.To me, this was an action that is unforgivable. The conjurer could have helped so many others throughout his life. Instead, he failed to learn from his actions and destroyed himself.
I too have done things that I regretted and have been punished. However, I refuse to permit this to deter me. f you give up, the darkness wins. Only by staying true to myself, no matter what difficulties or temptations I encounter, can I accomplish my goal. Being a defender and protector of the light and the innocent and seeing evil destroyed is, by far, the most difficult path to follow. Being wicked and evil is the easy way out. Taking what you want because you want it. Forcing the weak to bow instead of inspiring them to better things is the easy way. To inspire, protect, serve, and ultimately render safe the lands is difficult. It would be so much easier to simply take what coin I needed from someone or to cut down someone simply because they were standing in my path. However, that path, while easier, is ultimately self destructive and I refuse to bend my will so that I might have an easier life. My life is my quest and my quest is to see that no one else suffers the same fate as my family.

RoleChapter 4 A Visit from an Immortal Added Sun Aug 22 11:58:52 2010 at level 16:Guild Rank: 16 Age: 20
My life took yet another turn today. I was in the forest trying to hone my skills and contemplating my lifes path. As I was deftly fending off beasts that dived at me, I thought of how it is important to keep my mind focused and to remember that I live and fight so that others may not have to live in fear of being taken from their home. I absently was fingering my headband when a loud crack broke the silence. Suddenly, in front of me was Lord Nnaeshuk. I could not believe my eyes and thought perhaps Olin had slipped something into my last boar steak. However, I was not hallucinating nor was I dreaming. One of the Immortals of the Fortress had graced me with their presence.I was stunned and Im sure that my eyes betrayed my shock and awe.
It seems that Lord Nnaeshuk had heard of my trek and provided me with some much welcomed motivation. As I spoke with him about the need to stay dedicated, I found myself believing more than ever that my path and choice in life was correct and right. I remain dedicated to the memory of my sister and in my desire and hope that one day people like me will no longer need to fight. One day my war will be over and those that would do harm to another will be defeated. One day, I will be able to rest easy knowing that my perseverance to the cause played a small part in vanquishing the darkness from the land.
The visit by Lord Nnaeshuk only reinforced that which I already knew; I must join the Fortress when they will take me so that I can add my strength, dedication, loyalty, and passion to their ranks and assist in their fight against those that would do harm and especially those that stole my life from me and set me on this path.

RoleChapter 3 Who I Am Part 2 Added Fri Aug 20 17:47:10 2010 at level 10:Guild Rank: 10 Age: 19
My sister loved her headband. It was shiny and really the only possession she had that was just her own. A day did not go by that she did not simply sit on the ground and roll the piece in her hand giggling at its beauty. Shortly before my 11th naming day, Imperial Centurions entered our small village and demanded a Tribute to the Emperor from all residents. Other than a few scraps of food, we had nothing to give. The Centurions however decided that my sister would have to serve as a special gift to the Emperor. My father, a simple farmer, became enraged and flung himself at the Centurions while screaming to my mother to get Greatia and I to safety. My mother ignored him and followed him into certain death. What chance could two simple Arial farmers have against trained Centurions? I cowered and watched in horror as the Centurions easily subdued my parents and then forced my father to watch as my mother was beheaded before they disemboweled him.All this time I did nothing to fight for my family.Of course I was only a small boy and was trying to protect my sister, but the shame travels with me.A small scar is all I have left of the Centurions blade that struck me as they scooped up my sister and took her off to the Imperial Lands. Before I passed out from the blade strike, I watched as she was flung under the arm of a Centurion and heard her scream.
When I regained consciousness, I was all alone.out hut was wrecked and the bitter smell of the blood of my parents filled the air.Pools of dark blood crept across the floor. At the edge of one of the pools, I saw my sisters headband, the blood beginning to stain the leather strap. Carefully, I picked it up and tied my feathers. There it stays as a reminder of my trek.

RoleChapter 1 Introduction Added Fri Aug 20 17:40:20 2010 at level 10:Guild Rank: 10 Age: 19
I have decided that it is important, in this violent world to make sure I leave something behind so that I am not forgotten. When my time on this land has come to an end, if just one person reads this book, no book is not the right word, collection of mis-matched pieces of scrap paper and parchment, that at least I will not be completely forgotten.

Sun Nov 7 14:01:06 2010 by 'Valguarnera' at level 51 (348 hrs): Gets killed by orc. Orc makes banner, doesn't take anything else. Hzerliach left with 'only' 13 limited wearables, plus inventory. Complains loudly about being 'naked'. Ugh.
