Cael Turen the Luminary of Hope
DescriptionThis young adult human stands about six feet in height and has a somewhat slender frame. It is obvious that this human is active and athletic as his body shows muscle tone. His skin is somewhat bronzed, indicating an outdoor lifestyle, and he has bright, blue eyes. He has long, light brown hair tied back in a simple ponytail to keep his hair out of his eyes. This human has a short, neatly trimmed beard that is slightly lighter in color than his hair.

31607, Cael's Role Chapter 7

RoleChapter 7 Hammersong Added Thu Feb 18 14:32:40 2010 at level 23:Every man can strive for perfection, for purity of soul. It is the trials of life that make the man. But just living, just surviving, is not enough. There must be the right attitude. It requires strength of will. It is process that only the strong endure and by enduring, the individual becomes stronger.
Every man starts off impure and incomplete. I am not alone in this predicament; it is the state of things. The only difference between other men and myself is that I have a minor setback. It hardly matters, since I will do what I can to overcome it. It is merely one of the many trials that my life may throw at me and although it weakens me today, it will only make me stronger in the long run.
When I met Baerinika, her words stunned me. Never have I been so shunned in my life and it wounded me, spiritually. But I refused to let it keep me down. It was my first trial in Thera and by enduring it I have only made myself stronger.
When Baerinika mentioned Thror Hammersong, I knew little of him and his faith. I decided to look into the matter, researching and reading any and all texts I could find of him. And I realized that I have been somewhat foolish in my youth.
Still the incident has shown me the process in which a man's soul can be forged and so it was not completely wasted.
I do admit that my understanding of Thror may be somewhat lacking. What I understand, though, is that he represents the journey towards purification through enduring trials of fire.
Purification through the strength gained by enduring the repeated trials of fire.

RoleChapter 6 The Meeting with Baerinika Added Wed Feb 17 18:18:35 2010 at level 23:So I spent some time praying for Baerinika at her shrine, and she finally came to me. And then we discussed my plans and receiving a potential blessing from her. Although we agreed on some things, there was on aspect of my belief system that she could not get over, nor was I willing to compromise.
I believe that evil can be redeemed. It does not happen often, nor is it common place. This is the issue she took offense to. Evil cannot be redeemed, she said, and in trying to do so, I would enable them to rape or pillage. While there is some truth to this, it is impossible to believe that evil is completely irredeemable.
One part of my soul is essentially evil, the curse. And yet I fight for the Light, and will continue to do so. Her words, had I believed them, would have led me to despair. It was an insult, a slap in the face. If evil is completely irredeemable, if I cannot be pure, then what reason do I have to fight? To carry on with my life?
It would be completely hopeless since I cannot be saved. There has to be some hope for the wicked. It is only extremely rare because only the very strong and courageous would be willing to face their inner demons. The strongest would be the ones willing to face life trails and become the better for it.
But I plan on being the stronger, the better, and to purify my own soul through my actions and thoughts. And from there, I wanted to purify others, sometimes through violence and other times through less violent means. This was a start, but evidently not enough, just because I believe evil is not completely irredeemable.
And so she told me to seek out Thror instead. An immortal I know so little about. So, I will learn what I can about him.

31605, Cael's Role Chapter 5

RoleChapter 5 Baerinika(First Person) Added Thu Feb 11 16:51:38 2010 at level 6:There is something to be said about finding one's purpose in life. Most people wander aimlessly for several years before eventually settling for a mundane existence. The lucky, the few, eventually figure out that there is more to life than to just living.
I've wandered around for a couple weeks trying to figure out exactly what I should be doing, while making sure that I do not let the curse get the better of me. I think I've figured out what must be done.
The world is filled with dark creatures; demons, vampires, zombies and more. And there are also people who fight for the shadow, for a darker world that would only please themselves. These people, although there is some hope for them, would only make the world worse for the average person and although this average person has no direction, they should have the chance to make their own path.
What am I getting at? I have some skill, some sense of what is right and wrong. It would be a shame if I ignored what was given to me. I had figured I wanted to make the world better when I was younger, but I had no direction. have found my path.
Baerinika, the jaguar lady. But there's more to that. I may not be the perfect example of a jaguar-priest. I am far more interested in defending, in healing the light and those who are in need over participating in pure righteous battle however, I do know that violence is often necessary in these dark times. And I also know that not all fights are those with sword and shield, but rather internal.
This is a time to stand up for the Light, those who are in need and those who were wronged. It requires courage for an ordinary human to stand up and face the darkness that plagues this world, but this act is necessary for any change. One person willing to ignore their fears is better than none. And I will start down this path and perhaps I can inspire others to do the same.
My purpose is pure and simple, and perhaps through these pure acts, I can eventually purify my thoughts and soul. Either way, I will act in a righteous way, and I will force myself to look towards the light and not give in to the negativity that plagues me.
My only hope is that Baerinika will accept me, even though I am not as pure as I would like to be. My actions have always been pure and will continue to do my best to keep it so. I am only interested in doing what is right in spite of the demonic influence.

31604, Cael's Role Chapter 4

RoleChapter 4 The Curse(Third Person) Added Thu Feb 11 16:43:34 2010 at level 6:Demons and devils are known to have a sort of corrupting affect when they come into contact with mortals. They tempt mortals in different ways. Some, like the incubi, try to incite lust in men, enough to forget the righteous path. Others try to appeal to a man's sense of pride or greed.
Demons have many different tools at their disposal, and it is almost impossible to know why they try to corrupt men. Perhaps it is a game to them. One such tool is a curse, which makes the mortal partially demon. Not half, not even quarter, just a tiny sliver. This is often enough to drive a man to the shadow.
Of course, this is not necessarily the case, and it might drive the man to be even better than he was, just to prove he is above this influence. A possible example of this is Cael Turen. While it is known that he interacted possible example of this is Cael Turen. While it is known that he interacted with a demon when he was thirteen years old and he was told that he was cursed, it cannot be proven.
It is known, though, that as far as anyone can tell, he has never committed a great sin. In fact, it seems that he's interested in following a code of honor, similar to the paladin code, above all else. It is possible that he believes that if his actions are pure and narrow that he can eventually get rid of the corrupting force.
When a person is afraid of their dark side, there are two main options. Either they give in to the corruption and become part of the shadow, or they fight it. It seems that Cael has chosen the second path.

31603, Cael's Role Chapter 3

RoleChapter 3 Leaving Home Added Wed Feb 10 23:09:55 2010 at level 1:I, Cael Turen, am writing this entry to remind myself of the events that passed since my sister's death. At the same time, I am to write my own thoughts.
Since the attack, I have been having these negative thoughts that try to influence me to commit evil deeds. I will not submit to them, of course, as I am stronger and better than this influence, but it is a curse I must deal with for the rest of my life unless some outside force saves me from it.
My parents, who did survive the attack, did not tell me where this negativity came from. Instead they let me believe that I was just distraught from the loss of my sister and that these thoughts will eventually pass as long as I keep my mind on the light and on the code. In doing so, though, they broke the code. I was deceived.
But I do understand why they did it. I was not even fourteen years old, and no young man wants to hear that he is part demon, cursed, tainted, whatever you want to call it, no matter how pure or strong he tries to be. It did give me the chance to actually reflect on all that I was taught, though. If my parents are willing to break the code, then there must be something missing or wrong with it. Or they, like most everyone else, have a darker side.
I decided to leave the monastery, my parents, though one day I will probably see them again, but not for many years. On this day they told me about my curse, to warn me about the dangers I may face. It is true that the outside world is full of danger, but that's the very reason for my leaving. The curse weakens me, but I'm still able to do things for others. Giving in will be the worst choice.

31602, Cael's Role Chapter 2
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 2 The Disaster Added Wed Feb 10 23:07:13 2010 at level 1:Despite the eventual expectation that Cael will become a warrior, his life was peaceful for the first thirteen years of his life. This changed one winter night, just before his fourteenth birthday. It was night, and everyone was in their beds, asleep. Cael was awoken abruptly with a loud shriek. The monastery was under attack and chaos erupted. He hopped up from his bed and grabbed his sword. It is time to fight against the unknown assailant.
Cael, as always, though, was protective of his sister, despite him being the younger one by five minutes, and he rushed to her room, only to find her missing. He started to scour the monastery, calling out his sister's name, while the adults rushed to answer the call for aid, the ringing bells.
The strange thing is that Cael did not rush to his sister's room first, and he just wandered the halls looking for his sister. Even he didn't know why he was compelled to avoid the room and expected to find her elsewhere. Eventually, though, not able to find his sister, he forced himself to go to her room.
There he found a terrifying sight. The room was on fire, and there stood a large, red creature with horns; a demon. In his hand, the demon had the limp body of Cael's sister. The boy, Cael, called out to the demon, "Let my sister go, demon!"
The demon laughed in response, but said nothing. Instead he stared down at Cael, who was nothing but a dwarf in comparison. Cael, mustering all the bravery he had within him, charged at the demon, sword in hand. The demon, in response, tossed Cael's sister to the ground and knocked the boy's sword out of his hand. More than courage would be needed for this battle.
The boy froze. It would only be natural, even a grown man might be too terrified to fight back. The demon scooped up the boy with his clawed hands and grinned at him. Cael tried to force himself out of the demon's grip, punching and squirming, with no success. He was only human after all. Strangely, though, the demon didn't tighten his grip to squeeze the life out of Cael.
Then something happened, that no one explained, that moment the demon spoke to Cael directly, in a language that he did not understand. After the words were spoken, the demon started to tighten his grip to squeeze the life out of Cael.
Suddenly the demon cried out in agony. A stab to the back from Cael's father was enough to force the demon to drop Cael to the ground. The Order has found the threat and the demon is quickly dealt with.
Cael survived the ordeal, but his sister did not. When he woke up from the nightmare, things have changed. An evil started to grow from within the innocent, idealistic boy.

31601, Cael's Role Chapter 1
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 1 The Early Years Added Wed Feb 10 23:03:12 2010 at level 1:Cael's parents were minor nobility in a small village southeast of the Hardan Woods. They were highly respected and were generally considered honorable and generous people. They, using their wealth, created a monastery for an order of warrior-monks. Cael's parents, and most of the people of the village, joined the order to better themselves and to eventually better the world.
Cael was eventually conceived, along with a twin sister, Calee, and the two of them were raised mostly at the monastery, though his parents provided him with nearly everything he could ever need or want. Despite having noble status, he was treated the same as any villager, everyone was equal under the code.
The basic code is as follows:
1) Strength is better than weakness 2) Courage is better than cowardice 3) Joy is better than guilt 4) Honor is better than dishonor 5) Freedom is better than slavery 6) Kinship is better than alienation 7) Vigor is better than lifelessness 8) Generosity is better than selfishness 9) Mercy is better than cruelty 10) Hope is better than despair
Cael learned, along with the code, how to fight, to defend himself and his loved ones. It was expected, that at one point, all the members of the Order would eventually find a post to defend those who cannot and to strike at those who would harm the innocent. Loyalty, frugality, courage, compassion, calmness, fairness, benevolence and more were virtues to the order. Above all else, though, the order emphasized hope for a better future. The right behavior, the right virtues, and the world will become right.

Tue Feb 16 19:52:45 2010 by 'Baerinika' at level 23 (30 hrs): Worth empowering, I gave him the option of seeking out Thror or a more generic aspect of Acolyte Light stuff and he said he'd think of either, so if he goes for the latter, anyone please help him out
Sat Feb 20 12:10:00 2010 by 'An Immortal' at level 24 (52 hrs): An Immortal added 250 exp for: Good talk on religion and purity. He did so by interaction with the dwarf bouncer in the Inn.
