Description

Wearing a good quality, loose fitting robe which sits at an akward angle on
his body this human looks somewhat scruffy. His long brown hair has been
pulled back into a ponytail and a leather circlet holds it in place, yet more
than a few strands have crept free and swish around in the air.He has
shaved, though not all that recently judging by the rough stubble which his
face displays. His features are broad flat and mundane, and his stocky build
lends him a look of a pesent farmer. His dark brown eyes look out from
beneath his bushy eyebrows and the lines at thier sides suggest he is not one
afraid of laughter. He is neither overweight nor particularly thin and at
just under 6' tall, he to all outward appearences is just plain average.

Descision.

Matedzuta sat stunned in his bed for what felt like hours. When he left the
home he had known for his life, he felt like a stranger to himself.
Stumbling through the streets his mind raced, he was no soldier able to fight
as his father had asked, how could he learn to be so at such short notice, he
was an adult now, expected to make his own way in life, and now asked to
fight? All he had was a grasp of magic, yet not sufficient enough to wield
as a weapon.

As Matedzuta passed the shapeshifters guild, he paused.He could try to
learn thier art, turn himself into something that could fight nothing was
trully impossible if he pushed himself hard enough.
As he stepped into the guildhall the sun had just reached its Zenith. And
though he had taken but six hours to decide to change his lifes direction
around completely, Matedzuta felt an odd peace within himself, and though he
still felt a deep sorrow there was also a spark of excitement and a sense
that wherever his father was, alive or dead, he would be proud at this
moment.

My Son,
when you are old enough to not just read this, but understand it I want you
to consider carefuly what I have to say. Take time with it and do not rush,
be sure when you decide you are wholly comitted either way.

First let me say this, I would have been with you to watch you grow but I
heard within me a call that I could not ignore and I had to put aside all
feeling of guilt to focus on what I consider my holy duty, to avenge your
mothers death, and should I succeed in that as I must believe I shall, avenge
those who have also suffered the pain I, we, are forced to bear.

Your mother was killed only a few months after your birth, she had left you
with me to gather some vegetables from the market, that day was our first
time alone together, and I saw her in you, her smile, her eyes.I heard the
screams from outside as the killers started killing the cityfolk, yet I could
not leave you for fear you would come to harm. Nercval came to our home, he
bore the news of your mothers passing, and I am unashamed to admit I wept
freely, hugging you to my chest, your cries joining mine. That day I swore
to find those responsible and punish them for what they had done. Nercval, a
very old and trusted friend tried to dissuade me from my task at first, but
seeing I would not be swayed in the end supported me. He has agreed to bring
you up, and I have full faith he will do a far better job at it than I could
have.

When you become an adult, you will be given this letter and now you must make
a choice. To continue with your life as it has been up until now, or to act
as I have but with more thought, foresight. I would ask you go forth and
defend the helpless, fight for them as best you can stop others from
suffering as we have, make a difference for the good of all. Know that
whatever you decide to do I would give you my full support were I with you
now.

Chapter 1

Early life.

Born in Vorallian city, Matedzuta never met his parents. He was raised by a
priest named Nercval, who he later learned was a close friend of his fathers.
he grew all he found out about his pareents was that his mother lost her
life not long after he was born, and his father left perhaps two months after
that.
His early life was rather comfortable, and he was schooled well studying
alongside the children of wealthy merchants, and even though he did suffer
the mockery of the other children from time to time over being an orphan, it
was never enough to trully upset Matedzuta.
Nercval looked after Matedzuta well, ensuring he wanted for nothing and
instilling in him a keen sense of morality and responsibility for his
actions. When Matedzuta reached his teens Nercval questioned him as to his
plans for later life. Having prevously given this little thought Matedzuta
pondered the question for a moment and decided that givin his abiliy with
simple magical cantrips that he would become an entertainer, developing his
magical skill along those lines his young mind imagined endless possibilities
bringing mirth to the masses. Nercval's normally joyful eyes barely hid the
sadness in them as he gave a faint smile to his ward saying simply 'May it be
so.'
It was the morning of Matedzuta's sixteenth birthday that Nercval woke hime
early, an age yellowed piece of parchment in his hands. As he passed the
parchment to Matedzuta he explained that Taeglas, Matedzuta's father, had
been a lifelong friend of his, and he had given his son into his care with
more than ample money to look after him. Nercval continued to explain that
he would have done so with no coin but from pure friendship and he knew that
Taeglas would be proud of his son, no matter what else happened, but that he
promised to give the letter he had just passed over to Matedzuta on this day.

Silently Nercval left Matedzuta's room.
