Description

Before you stands a short, stout dwarf that looks to be nearly as wide
as he is tall. Barrel-shaped, with a long red-brown beard that stretches
down to his waist, this man stands perhaps chest high to an average human.
His beard is well kept regardless of it's enormous length, neatly tied and
braided, a small mithril clasp holding it all together, as if he takes
great pride in it. The hairs upon his head match the fiery color of his
beard, and their lengths have also been braided, hanging down the back
of his head, shouder length. His forehead is quite wide and well-lined, his
brow thick with bushy eyebrows of copper-red. A wide nose rests between his
eyes, bulbous, and quite reddened and flushed. His body is rather robust,
but at the same time there is not much in the way of fat upon it. Large,
meaty arms jut from his side, their thickness seeming almost uniform
in circumference the entire way down them. A set of short, squat legs
support him and they are anchored into a set of booted feet. His feet are
enormous, their wide base seeming to give this fellow a rather strong
footing.

The Orebanger Clan History - Determination and Skill

The Orebanger clan has a great history dating back to the First Age of
Thera. These original dwarves were a berserker clan regarded highly by
their fellow dwarven kin for their accomplishments on the battlefields due
to their intense determination and their never-ending drive to succeed.
They believed then, as they do now, that being properly prepared with both
the correct tools and mindset are key to success in any endeavor, whether it
be on the battlefields or in their day to day activities. This high level
of determination and skill is the secret to their strength and longevity as
a clan.

Before taking action, they analyze and plan everything to the finest detail,
as they are aware that the smallest mistakes can have the greatest of
consequences. Each dwarf in the Orebanger clan strives to become a master
of the methods of their craft - whether they be warriors, priests, or
craftsmen - practicing their techniques endlessly so that the technique takes
root deep within their mind. Only this way, can they move with flawless,
unthinking perfection in the face of adversity.

It is said that members of the Orebanger would enter a trance like state
while fighting, smithing, mining, brewing or any other physical task. During
these states, the Orebanger dwarves would produce amazing results, though few
understood how or why.

Chapter 4

The Orebanger Clan History - Purity and Goodness

The Orebanger clan carry with them the inherent goodness of the dwarves. They
believe that they are set above the normal man, and thus have a responsibility
to help and protect others. Orebangers believe that Evil is the root cause of
all negative actions, and many are ardent fighters against the Shadow. One of
the Orebanger clan will not allow the negative virtues of deception, dishonor,
greed, lust, envy, boastfulness, or any other mortal sin be any part of their
lives.

Though not Orderly by nature, the Orebangers obey the law, barring few specific
exceptions. At times it may be necessary to protect a victim from a
criminal, even breaking the law to do so. If provoked and attacked in a city,
an Orebanger will slay the lawbreaker even if chase is required. They do
believe, however, that law should not be abused by anyone, lawman or citizen
alike. If an Orebanger believes an evil man is hiding behind the law, he will
not hesitate to visit death upon him. If a cowardly darkfriend seeks to flee
and hide behind the Law, the Law can not be allowed to be a protector of Evil.

Carnon Orebanger - Warrior or Healer

Carnon was brought into the Realm with great fanfare from the Orebanger clan
members - a son born to two well respected and feared berserkers. At a young
age Carnon showed a strong affinity and aptitude for the arts of melee and,
like all Orebangers, drilled himself mercilessly with every aspect and
intricacy of the War arts. He relished the challenge of facing foe far larger
and stronger than himself, and was fearless in his determination to become
great.

On a dangerous training mission into the Wastes of Nonveil he and his fellow
trainees became lost. One by one, his friends fell - both to the fierce
roaming beasts as well as the scathing, unrelenting elements of this harsh
land. Carnon was badly injured during this endeavor, yet was lucky enough
to survive, barely escaping back to the mending hands of Seantryn Modan's
healers.

While recovering from his injuries, Carnon was despondent - he knew it was
not his fault that his friends perished, yet he knew that their deaths
could have been prevented. If a healer, such as the ones who had been
nursing him back from the brink of death, had been nearby, the outcome of
their mission would have been a positive one. As he continued to mend under
the watchful eye of the priests, he began to mull the idea of taking the
responsiblity upon himself. He knew if he undertook this task, he would
dive into it totally and completely as the Orebanger do, and he would have
to relinquish his berserker heritage.

It was a difficult decision, but one he felt obliged to make. Someone must
sheperd the flock and ensure their safety. Who else but an Orebanger could
do the job as well.

Carnon Orebeard - Noldarian Smith

Upon returning home from Seantryn Modan the lone survivor of his ill-fated
training exercise, Carnon dreaded informing his parents and clan of his
decision to alter his training path, yet at the same time he was excited to.
He had faced a great adverisity, terrible tragedy and grew through the
experience. He understood that he was young, strong, yet raw, and that
it would take many more years, trials, and adversity until he could consider
himself fit to be a Noldarian Smith - yet when he finally told his family
of his decision, it was this understanding that enabled them to embrace
Carnon in his new endeavor. They saw in Carnon the Orebanger will and
determination necessary for him to succeed and thrive in his chosen path.

They realized he was not broken by his painful experience, but reforged,
harder, stronger, and more confident in himself.

Carnon Orebanger - Virtues

After his experiences in the Wastes, the stronger, reforged Carnon Orebanger
also came to view life from a grander perspective. Although his life had
been greatly altered and his clan still reelied from their loss, outside of
that small circle, life continued to move foward. No one else cared. No
one else mourned. Life moved on - simple as that.

Carnon vowed then to become a shield of Light, not just of his clan and kin,
he would not be the tip of the spear to strike at the Darkness, but be
a guiding hand, a combat analyzer, and a comforting shoulder to the cause.
To be a shield to the valiant warriors who risked their lives every day for
the light, for a better world. He, too, vowed to mourn the loss of those
he could not save (either those who have fallen to the Dark or those souls
who have turned away from the Light) to ensure their legacies lived on in
the mind of someone other than their families.

Like most dwarf, patience with others is not Carnon's strongest suit. He
can be short with those who do foolish things and get themselves injured
unnecessairily, yet he remains quick to save them from themselves. Carnon,
like all Orebangers, does have an incredible amount of patience in both
his priestly and forge training - as both have a soothing and calming
effect on him.

Similarly, loyalty is a virtue Carnon holds very highly. His friendship,
once given, is permanent and almost indestructible. He is willing to
shield his friends and clan with his life. If any innocent has to die,
let it be him, as there is a purpose to everyone's existence in Thera.
Carnon believes that his purpose is to protect, and if his sacrifice
will save another, then he welcomes the cleansing of the forge willingly.
