Baog Winterborn the Dweller of the Wilds, Pure as Freshly Fallen Snow

Description

This fire giant appears to be severely deformed. His head is misshapen
and caved in on the left side with that steel gray eye being lower than
the right. All of his limbs are of differing lengths with odd bulges
where one would not expect muscles to be. This combined with his stunted
height of only nine feet make his physique appear freakishly large. No
hair is apparent anywhere on his body and his mottled dark gray skin is
covered in angry orange-red scars that look like cracks in a lava flow.
His upper lip is pursed upwards on the left side due to a terrible scar
from a poorly done attempt to stitch a wound. What should be his nose
is naught but a mangled growth appearing to have been broken several
times and not set properly. His forehead is short and sharply angled
back though his brow is large and protruding as it angles down to the
left. Both ears are severely swollen appearing much like cauliflower
and the right side is missing its lobe along a ragged tear. Despite
his horrific appearance his face is slack & unfettered with the hard,
angry countenance so typical of most of his kind. His clothes consist
of worn but sturdy like those worn by travelers.

Chapter 1

The Ballad of Baog: Part One

I bid you listen to this tale of dread and awe
Of the bastard son of Sekktimus Rah
An innocent child, in misery born
A birth announced by the funeral horn

Deep in the fiery mount he sat
Looking upon that which his loins beget
Malformed wretched, newborn life
The bearing of which also slew his wife

Silent fury directed he
At his child whose life reviled be
Until no longer could he restrain
And plucked the child from where he lain

By his legs he swung the child 'round
Infant head upon stone made a sickening sound
Then dropped his son in own blood to lie
Yet the child lived still, he would not die

Into the lava he ordered the babe burn
Then Father stormed off and n'ere did return
But the midwife took pity upon the wretch
And to Lord Rah the child she did fetch

Lord Rah was amused by this turn of fate
For the father of this child he had come to hate
With a glint in his eye he devised a plan
To expel Sekktimus from his fire giant clan

"Make certain he lives, as an example to all"
"Of the shame that comes from the Sekktimus hall"
"Raise this child with fear, loathing, and hate"
"Make him a eunuch so he cannot mate"

He dismissed the midwife with a wave of his hand
She left at once to obey Lord Rah's command.
With patience and skill she saved the babe's life
Only to curse him with torment, hardship, and strife

The child was fed pain and suckled on fear
He endured beatings and lashings year after year
His mind had been damaged, it was cruel to ask
For him to do the most menial and simple task.

Decades had passed and the boy grew strong
But his mind remained childlike, innocent, yet wrong.
He accepted his punishments, saying hardly a word
And if he had spoken no one would have heard.

They called him the Baog, a word which meant fool
Their words did not hurt him but their actions were cruel
Yet salvation came when an old elvish mage
Set the entire mount into a panicky rage

The wizard had come to set every slave free
Upon turning a corner what should he see
Baog huddled against the wall, shaking with fear
But the mage saw the shackles and the meaning was clear.

He used calming words Baog could not have known
Yet Baog was soothed by the elf's kindly tone.
With a wave of his wand he set Baog free
To where our story begins, the Academy.
