Achatoch the Spectre

Description

The male human before you is below average in height. A crooked back leans
his entire upper body forward and slightly to the side in a almost grotesque
way. Long fatty black hair hangs down in tussles over his forehead and down
to his shoulders. Beneath it pasty white skin can be seen hanging loosely
above delicate bones. His eyebrows droop over his mis-matched eyes, and
between a long nose with the tip almost touching his mouth can be seen. Thin
lips hang turned downwards with one side of the mouth never quite closing
gives him a sour appearance. Thin delicate limbs that seem almost to short
for his length, hug tightly to his sunken torso.

Chapter 5

A baby is born

The priest gazed out the window and nodded satisfactory. The sun was high in
the sky over Balator the shadows it cast small and insignificant, and only
the slightest wisps of clouds to disturb the bright light. It was a good day,
the priest thought as he turned around and focused his attention on the woman
lying on the bed. Highly pregnant she was in the last stages of the
pregnancy. Sweating profusely she was attended by one the priests acolytes
who whispered soft encouragements to get her through the painfull experience.

The sun is well in its highest, the day is full of life and the sun
shines the brightest, the priest said in a loud voice cutting through the low
moans of the woman. I have read the stones and the child that shall come from
this womans loins shall be of great power. His love will spread all over and
poeple will bask in his beauty. He will be the greatest tribute to our lady
Rayhin. The omens are read and I do not make mistakes for I am a priest of
Rayhin.
Master, one of the acolytes exclaimed pointing out through the
window. The priest turned and he thrust his hands up in the air. See, the
seagulls fly high in the sky in a souther...eh northerly.....they fly high in
the sky. It is the greateast of omens, trust me for I am a priest of Rayhin.

The womans moaning intensified, and birth was a mere moments away. Suddenly a
huge crash could be heard, wood and splinters flew in the room and a man
stood in the doorway. With a maniacal laugh Kryldor rushed in and threw the
priest to the floor. Laughing wildly he brandished his whip over the now
screaming woman and fainted acolyte. Uttering a few quick spells, Kryldor
moved forward and laid his hands upon the womans distended belly. A loud
scream erupted from her at his touch and she fainted. Kryldor snickered
loudly and with a final word of power he withdrew from the house.

Only a few short moments after, with the dust still unsettled, a baby boy was
born. The priest was the first to see it and he paled as he gazed upon the
ugly and blotchy baby, the skin hanging losely over to thin limbs and the
face drawn instead of the usual baby round.. There was nothing beautifull
about this one, and no special power could be sensed within so the priest
fled the house never to return. Next to see the baby was the mother and she
fainted dead away.

Chapter 4

A child is walking

Achatoch grumbled softly as he walked down the merchants road from Balator
towards Hamsah Mu'tazz. Looking back a final moment, he hoisted his pack and
carefully picked his path with a soft shake of his head. A few silver coins
was all he had in his pockets, all that he had recieved from the elders at
the Balator orphanage. About time I left that annoying place, he thought. He
had spent his entire short life there, being told that he had been dropped on
the doorstep to the orphanage like some sack of grain or something.

Growing up in the orphanage was not an easy thing to do, even if you were
completely healthy and at full strength always. Achatoch was not healthy
though, early on he was discovered to have a rare bleeding disorder. A minor
cut bled and bled and bled and made quite a mess. First time he got into a
scuffle with another child he almost died from the small cuts he recieved.
That only reinforced most of the childrens opinions that he was a freak, and
not just because he looked like something that had been on the bottom of a
pond for a weak. His so-called friends was not the worst thing though, there
was always the threat of waking up to a huge fire giant standing over you
with a sword readied and blood in their eyes, or those murderous little
gnomes that sometimes stalk the world with their sharp claws and ferocious
bites. No life at the Balator orphanage was not easy and just having survived
that made Achatoch something special.

At his arrival in Hamsah Mu'tazz he had first attempted to join the bards
guild, but was thrown out even before he managed to set foot in there. Told
that no one would listen to a singer that looked like the worst demon. He
briefly considered walking into the warriors guild be as he saw the practice
that was there, he realised he would be dead before a day had passed with his
illness. Finally he reached the guild of necromancers, and it was as if he
had come home. Here he would not deal with the living things, but the undead.
No blood do they carry, no insults will they throw. It was perfect. His
disease would not hinder his studies, no indeed they might aid him in
figuring out how to make it to his advantage. So with a satisfied smile he
walked through the doors.

Chapter 3

About Achatoch

Achatoch is not a very complicated figure, he is focused in his craft and
always in the back of his mind he has his disease. His mind is
straightforward and organized, there is not much guile in him and he makes no
excuses for what he does, for he does not consider it evil to manipulate the
dead, or manipulate the living into being dead. He also has no preference for
what race or gender he might come over, all are equal in death he believes.
He is somewhat envious and irritated at those that possess beauty and
charisma so he cares not to be around singers of reknown. His life is ruled
by strength in that he seeks to overcome the weakness of his genetics. Greed
is also a part of him, as it often is in those that grew up with little.

Chapter 2

Achatoch's first experiment(and failure)

A bloody business it is to be a scientist. After aquiring a few samples from
different races, Achatoch went to work. Sitting deep in the bowels of one
crypt in Galadon he withdrew the flasks he so carefully had gathered, and
with a excited gleam in his eyes placed them upon the ornate marble coffin.
Many had to die and die painfully for this collection, and even himself had
been forced to endure exquisite pain, but it all seemed a small thing now as
he watched the flasks glitter darkly with their rich content. Blood from the
fair elvens was there, and the foul underworlds one aswell. Gnome blood, the
storm giants blood aswell and more.
As always he went to work methodically, bringing the blood from a surface elf
and that of a drow to the table where he had set up his equipment. Slowly
mixing the two he then carefully poured them into a green substance of his
own making a quick reaction took hold as the potion turned darker. It had
taken long to procure all the plants and oils needed for that potion and now
he held it up unable to contain the laughter that erupted in his belly and
echoed for too long for comfort in the dark tomb.
Long have I been an outcast, he intoned in a deep voice stretching out his
pasty arms high in the air, long have the very being of my flesh and blood
prevented me from being....eh me.
Looking around quickly he shrugged his thin shoulders and quickly drank it
all. For a moment nothing could be heard except the soft excited breathing of
Achatoch. Taking a step backwards he stumbled then screamed in such agony
that the very walls seemed to vibrate with the force. Holding on to the
coffin he doubled over and screamed again, this one echoing forever in the
dark tomb and with such intensity that the dead was surely turning over in
their graves. With a final groan he fell into sweet unconsciousness knocking
over the coffin and spilling as his samples.

After he had woken and realised his samples where all spilled, he sighed
softly. Many would have to pay in pain to re-aquire those samples, indeed so
would he. Looking at himself in the mirror, he shaked his head dejectedly,
nothing had changed about him. The curse of his blood was still strong within
him, he was sure of it. A tiny mark had been left when he struck his hands as
he fainted, and it was still bleeding as if it was only moments ago it had
been made, though it must have been hours.

Walking through the city that night he held his head down and let his feet
take him wherever they went. As it happened he noticed a drow stalking a
surface elf in the shadows of the docks. Suddenly his blood boiled and a
violent rage began in him, his mouth worked endlessly and he gripped his belt
knife hard till his knuckles whitened. Looking both to the drow and the elf
he felt the ancient hatred between these two, and felt it keenly as if he
where the opposite of both. He could hardly contain his rage and only the
fact that there was one of both races ther caused him to hesitate. His hatred
was equally strong for both of them and he could not decide who to slash and
curse first. Then they where gone and his rage slowly subsided leaving only
the aftertaste of diseapointment

As he lay in his bed that night, he realised the implications of the potion
he had taken.

Chapter 1

Time has Passed.

As the stars shine brightly over Hamsah Mu'tazz a faint bustle can be heard
from the center of town, where travelers congregate despite the late hour.
Further in to the bowels of town sits a man in a place where the grieving or
dead are the most seen. He has his eyes on the heavens and watches it quietly
as it begins it shift from dark to light. Shrugging his shoulders softly he
casts one last glance upwards and with a snort he heads deep into a marble
crypt.

Learning from his last failure Achatochs experiments have been much more
carefull in his studies, he was also pleased when the effects of his last
failure with the blood of elves began to fade. He still retains a dislike
towards the elven kind, but he finds their very existance now tolerable.

His decision to take a place in the chasm, was largely motivated by a selfish
need. He had heard of them before he approached their dark abode, and what he
heard was that great knowledge was housed within and with their members. So
he saw it as his best opportunity to gather the necessary knowledge or power
to change his cursed body. It took no great pains to initiate himself into
the fold, but he was soon displeased. Despite their records he is still no
further in his research and failure looms behind him and haunts him at every
turn. He is growing desperate.
