Isendor the Favored Son of Darsylon, Knight of the Misty Ruin
DescriptionA tall, slender man is before you. His frame, demeanor, and the grace which mark his movements make plain his elven heritage. Long white locks of hair fall down to his shoulders, unbound and flowing like a bright river parting only for his slender pointed ears. His face is angular, yet the flesh smooth and youthful to the point of becoming quite difficult to place an age to him. His eyes are large and almond shaped, resembling the night sky with their deep blue coloration and flecks of twinkling silver. A high collar conceals his neck, mouth, and most of his nose, making it impossible to determine much more about him by observing his face.

RoleChapter 11 The Chronicles of My History I Added Sat Sep 13 00:23:56 2008 at level 1:I write of my past not that I may be granted clarity of remembrance, for I will never forget these first centuries, but for hope that in the process of binding my life in words my pain might lessen.
My early years, the sunrise of my life, were happy ones. I was born to a commoner's house within the City of the Elves, Darsylon. My father had for five centuries been a royal guard at the palace of the King when I was born, a station he had inherited from his father, and his father's father. Quite naturally it was his wish that I follow suit, as it is a great honor for one who is not noble to serve in such a position. For the first six decades of my life I was educated by my parents, my father a master of the bladesong, and my mother a loremistress. I learned of far away lands, much of history concerning the various races who now dwell on Thera, and of some who have long since passed. Perhaps I was fortunate to have such a knowledgeable mother, truly my education was one of great excellence. As I grew in stature so did my sense of responsibility grow. I was not as carefree as many of my young brethren are. Even at a young age I was burdened by a sense of duty to my people but also as a rarity among my people, to the world beyond Darsylon.
I can only guess that my demeanor was looked upon favorably by my father, as well as by the Lord Captain of the Guards, Prince Danellaranathanos Ar'dan Darsylonathas, for I was commissioned to be a royal guard far before my years would merit such placement. My heart was filled with pride and happiness as my father and my people honored me. Here within the walls of the palace I took on new training for the next twenty years of my life. While I am not permitted to speak of the Bladesong, I will openly admit that I never came close to becoming a master. Rather, I had learned the rudimentary applications of the sword and armor usage, though not much more. While my heart was filled with happiness for the favor that had rested on me and all the new things I was learning, my greatest happiness was to be found in a childhood friend of mine.
Lalleya had always been beautiful, even as a child. We were the same age, and while she was noble, we were connected by her teacher - my mother. Needless to say she was often taking lessons at our treetop home, and we fast became the best of friends. Nearly every moment I was not studying (and all this I speak of now is before my appointment within the palace) was spent with her. We would walk hand in hand, beneath the trees of the long spring, talking of anything and everything. For once engaged in conversation with Lalleya, it was not easy to stop. She was passionate about everything, though tempered by charity and genuine concern for others so much so that her passion was never seen as reckless or wild. Indeed without knowing her well, she would blend into the crowd...a beautiful face in the crowd even so. Most of all, Lalleya was blessed by some unknown magic which allowed her to peer directly into my heart, mind, and soul, so deeply did she understand me.
It is no surprise that as we grew older so did my affection grow for her. I can say without reserve that I have loved another so deeply and so truly that I have been glad at times that I had not unbridled power, for

RoleChapter 10 The Chronicles of My History II Added Sat Sep 13 08:09:43 2008 at level 3:There was a feast held at my father's house upon the day of my appointment as a royal guard. This occurred during the two hundred and fortieth season of my life, that is to say in human terms, my sixtieth birthday. Our home had been transformed into the measure of luxury for the event, for we were to be graced by the presence of Prince Danellaran, my revered benefactor. He arrived with the grandest of greetings, charming all who were in attendance, and I admit that in those early years I had a very high regard for my Prince.
The following two decades were filled with happiness, as I continued my service within the Palace, and enjoyed time with Lalleya when my duties were fulfilled. As the end of this second decade drew near, so did all happiness in my life come to an end. For in a single day, and what is one day to us, I was informed by a teary-eyed Lalleya that she was to be betrothed to another. What a foolish boy I was to entertain hopes of marrying one with such a high and noble lineage. It was, of course, my hope that somehow my revered position with the Royal Palace might make such a thing possible. The rules of courtship among my people are numerous and complex, and in truth this idea was a stretch of the imagination. The hope of a love sick fool. Alas, a lowly guard could never compete with a Prince. She was to be wed to my very benefactor, Prince Danellaran.
As though this were not enough to crush any man to dust, knowing that his greatest love would marry another, it was upon this very day which I learned of her betrothal that I also learned of returned love for me. While she was always able to read my thoughts directly, I had not the same gift in regards to her. While I knew she enjoyed my company, all these years she had never spoken of a great affection for me, though my own love for her was never concealed. Now here in the youthful spring of our lives, we loved one another with foolish, fruitless love.
What was I to do? Some would say I should have fought for her, to go against the wishes of her parents, to go against a promise made to my Prince, to do whatever it took to be with her. The consequences would have been dire, though looking back through the cruel lens of my grim history, perhaps I should of tried. I will say this, for those who would speak against me, if there is one greater concept than love held within the hearts of my people it is duty. For duty we withheld our love, for duty I served my Prince, and for duty I died inside. For forty years we bore this torture, Lalleya and I, forty years of longing when every inch of my heart and soul longed for my beloved to no avail. Forty years...

RoleChapter 9 The Chronicles of My History III Added Sat Sep 13 16:17:18 2008 at level 6:As I have mentioned before, the rules of courtship among my people are as complex as they are numerous. Though forty years had passed since Lalleya was betrothed to the Prince, they were not yet wed. The time did eventually come when preparations began for their wedding. This time was exceedingly difficult for me and I often wandered about as in a daze. The Prince sent Lalleya as an emissary southward to our wood-elf cousins who lived south of the mountains which border the southern end of the Vale of Arendyl. The purpose of the trip was simple enough, to invite their elders to join the wedding celebration. Though it is unlikely that many of them would have come, it remained an ancient custom to invite them attend matters of royal significance.
I only knew of Lalleya's mission and departure by overhearing discussions around the Palace. We had not spoken in many years, for the pain was too great for the both of us. We were in love, yet our duty pulled us apart forever. Even so, I felt as though I could sense when Lalleya left our city and my heart drew deeper into the well of despair. The journey to the alcove of our forest brethren was not far and I expected her to be gone not more than two weeks. These weeks turned into a month with no word from her or the small company which accompanied her. It was more than I could bear, every explanation for her absence growing worse within the imaginings of my mind.
Two months had now passed and I could stand it no longer. I requested an audience with Prince Danellaran.
"Isendor, my friend. How good it is to see you. Why have called upon me?"
"Your betrothed my Lord, Lalleya, she has been gone far too long for the journey that she took and I have grown concerned."
"Ah yes, I nearly forgot you were such good friends in childhood." (He had not known of our love at this place in time)
"That is so, my Lord. Very good friends. I must demand that a search party be sent for her. Why have you not searched for her yourself Danellaran? Any number of violent actions may have come upon her."
"Ease your tongue Isendor. She is likely extending her visit with our cousins, you know how fond she is of other cultures."
"That is impossible for you to know without receiving word from her my...Lord."
"Who are you to question my judgment? You forget your place Isendor. We will speak of this no further."
Spinning on my heels I removed myself from his chambers and from the palace without any of the customary formalities. I knew something was wrong, and if he would not search for her I would so myself.

RoleChapter 8 The Chronicles of My History IV Added Sun Sep 14 16:45:02 2008 at level 12:Three days it took me to reach the enclave of my wood-elf cousins. I ran without food or rest, stopping for nothing, urged forward only by my impossible love for Lalleya. I ran without permission to forsake my duties. I did not care. When I arrived I immediately began questioning, and I learned that she and her company had left a month before I left Darsylon. With a howl of frustration that was incomprehensible to my cousins, I began to run back toward Darsylon. It was less than half a day before I collapsed, my body utterly spent.
When I woke I immediately began my search, backtracking the path they must have traveled. I searched for every sign of their passage but much time had passed according to the wood-elves from when they began their journey home. I moved painfully slowly focusing my will to search for clues of their passage. It took every ounce of my power to not think of the grim possibilities.
What I found, still haunts both my dreams and waking life. A large circumference of trampling footprints, within the broken shaft of an arrow, the steel arrowhead bearing the mark of Darsylon fired by a member of the guard escorting Lalleya... Following what clues I could find, I began tracking footprints which lead toward Udgaard, all but one of them human.
My heart pounded with a fury it had never known as I tracked the party across the plains. Was it Lalleya who was with the humans? Was she still alive? Was she hurt? What was their intent? Questions reeled in my consciousness which I had no answer for and I pressed forward. When the moon was at its pinnacle in the night sky of the fourteenth day of my search I came across a camp of four tents. I knew it was the party I sought, from the make of the tents and the fashion of their camp it was clear that those sleeping within were the humans who had overtook Lalleya's company.
In complete silence I searched each of the tents, only to find humans asleep by the pairs. There was no sign of my beloved. At this point I can only say a mad vengeance overtook me, nearly unaware of my own actions I began to slaughter each human silently as they slept, slitting their throats each in turn with my long mithril hunting dagger. As I entered the final tent, I murdered the first human as I had the rest and moved toward the final sleeping form before me.
As the blade of my dagger pressed upon the human's neck, he awoke, his eyes wide.
"Tell me where she is and this will not be painful."

RoleChapter 7 The Chronicles of My History V Added Sun Sep 14 19:00:41 2008 at level 12:A harsh laugh came from the man as I pressed my dagger closer to his neck. His breath stank of ale.
"Ah, the elven wench. A pretty one she was. She ain't here."
"Tell me where she is, now!"
My hand began to tremble as I cut lightly into his flesh, a small trickle of blood flowing down his neck.
"She tried to escape, just a few hours past. Ran west she did."
The man sensing his death was near, spoke, "We was gunna take her to the slave market eh? Pretty thing like that would fetch a good price."
He continued, "Don't matter now though, she's dead. I got her good with an arrow right through the back. Didn't even scream."
The rage swelled within me like a burning fire. My grip tightened and I leaned in, my face inches away from his.
"You will suffer torment beyond the imaginings of mortal man, you spineless..."
My words were transformed into a gasping gurgling noise as the man ,with startling speed and power, pulled down on the back of my neck. The double-edged dagger in my hand bit deep into my throat, as well as his, as he pulled me with all his strength into a deadly embrace. I pressed down with my dagger hand and pushed up hard with my legs. It was too late.
The man was dead, and my condition was not much better. I could feel the blade had already passed so deeply into my neck that it cut through vocal chords. Fumbling wildly, I remember pouring a potion of healing upon my wound...just before the world went dark.

RoleChapter 6 The Chronicles of My History VI Added Sun Sep 14 21:30:42 2008 at level 13:When I awoke, I found myself laying next to the body of the man who killed Lalleya. It took me some time to regain my bearing, I was very weak. As memory returned to me I touched my neck, the wound had sealed but a scar remained. I tried to speak, the words sounding like blood flowing over broken glass. From that point forward I knew my voice was forever shattered.
Here my memory darkens, and I struggle now to recall all the events which took place as I left the tent. I remember the embers of the campfire still warm, I had not been unconscious long. I remember searching desperately for the body of Lalleya. I remember finding her, face down on the ground. The arrow shaft protruding from her back. I remember screaming, and crying, and kissing her forehead. I remember the days and nights it took to bear her dead body back to Darsylon even as it decayed in my arms.
I remember delivering her body to the home of her parents and the look on their faces. I remember crashing through the palace into the chambers of Danellaran. I remember trying to strike him in the face and cursing him.
I remember being forever banished from the Palace. I remember my Father's horror as he looked upon me. Simultaneously hearing the news of Lalleya's death, my banishment, and seeing for the first time my once golden hair turned black. (This must have happened shortly after I learned of Lalleya's death, how such a change in color occurred I still do not know.) I remember my father banishing me from my own home.
I remember years of wandering the world, dead within my living body. I remember fighting countless battles, wishing only to die completely. I remember being wounded badly, my blood pouring out of my body as I lay within a dense jungle. I remember waking, my face wet and a large feline form standing over me for only a moment before disappearing into the trees. I should have died there.
I remember stumbling across an ancient ruin, and I remember having faith for the first time in my life.

RoleChapter 5 Notes on Virtue: Retribution, Temperance and Charity Added Tue Sep 16 16:56:37 2008 at level 31:After having gained a certain reputation within my guild I have been titled by my guildmaster "The Initiate of the Virtues." So it did seem to me that this would be a fitting time to compose a few notes upon the virtues my guild holds in high esteem. My thoughts are obviously not infallible, though I have spent time studying prayers, the effects of anointing oil, and have had various conversation in hopes of coming to a good understanding of these virtues. It is of my honest hope that as I grow in wisdom and experience my views concerning these may become more enlightened.
Retribution: I begin now with the virtue of retribution perhaps because it is the most difficult to understand. I say it is not easily understood because it seems so closely related to vengeance. Upon first meeting the Lady Baerinika she was quick to point out to me that vengeance was an undesirable trait in the faithful. As I contemplated the meaning of retribution in contrast with vengeance, one concept in particular began to stand in the forefront of my thoughts. Vengeance is nearly always linked to strong emotions, and nearly always felt when an individual has been wronged. These emotions are a gateway to many evils, a lesson I have learned all too well. Retribution however, as I see it in regards to the virtue upheld by my guild, is not necessarily linked to an event that has transpired in one's own life. It is the desire to bring payment upon those who have, by their actions, sold themselves to evil. I would call this justice, yet it is not a justice actively sought for oneself, but for others. The life of a paladin should be one spent bringing retribution upon those who have become evil doers. This holy virtue can be a source of strength when battling with the wicked.
Temperance: When considering what retribution truly entails, it leads me to immediately think of the virtue known as temperance. This virtue could be described as moderation, or self-restraint. Baerinika warned me that as I fight against the forces of darkness I must find something within myself which would bring me out of the darkness of rage and hatred. I did not know it then, but it is precisely my thoughts of Her which accomplish this. She has given back to me my life and it should not be without purpose nor lost among waves of fury. I struggle each day to maintain my own temperance. I feel as though I walk a thin path between apathy, sorrow, and rage. Slowly, as the seasons of my life pass, I have learned to reserve my anger not for myself, nor wrongs done to me, but rather for wrongs done upon the world and of all those who walk in goodness. I think often of my Goddess when my heart leans toward despair, and I find gentle warmth and strength within. While the wicked have condemned themselves by their foul deeds, this should not mean that they be treated as animals to slaughter with sordid delight. Perhaps some may even be pulled back from evil by mercy shown through temperance.
Charity: The virtue by which others are served. Charity has as many forms as their are needs. When most think of charity they think of financial assistance, yet this virtue goes far beyond that. From the healing supplications offered by my fellow knights, to the ear inclined toward one who wishes to speak of

RoleChapter 4 Notes on Virtue: Fortitude, Faith and Hope Added Wed Sep 17 12:15:40 2008 at level 36:Fortitude: The virtue which describes inner strength. In my own life I find this virtue to be linked to nearly all of the the other virtues I have noted. What strengthens my resolve? Is it not by the holy virtues of temperance, faith, hope, retribution, and charity that I am so strengthened? There are always two wars in which a paladin does battle, the first and never ending, is the battle within oneself. No knight could hope to accomplish his tasks as a champion of light without a firm inner resolve. One must always look to sources in which they find mental, emotional, and spiritual strength. Long was I bereft of this virtue as I wandered the world utterly spent, my soul wholely dead in the darkness of my own losses. No longer. As each day passes and I strive to be a paragon of these virtues I write of, I know I will only become stronger within.
Faith: The virtue of faith is the supreme confidence and trust placed in someone or something. I have spoken with many knights regarding this virtue and they each have their own unique thoughts to present. I believe all of the virtues are maintained and revealed to a knight through the lens of their own personal experience and discipline. The question then is, in what do I place my faith? It is foremost placed in the Lady Baerinika. She revealed to me if I but believe in Her, then she would always be with me. I know now with unwavering confidence that this is true. She has brought me to life more times that I can count. She has protected me from evils within and without, and she has guided me toward purity in each step that I take. My religion is not one based on ideals or goals, though they are certainly a part of it, rather it is based and firmly rooted in my relationship to the goddess whom I serve.
Hope: I find the virtue of hope to be closely related to that of faith. However, I will not write of the obvious similarities here. While I view faith as being focused primarily inward, I see that hope has application to be found in the benefit of others. There are a vast multitude of things people desire and wish for which they may not yet have. It is my duty and desire as a paladin to strive for certain goals which have been outlined by the code I have sworn to uphold. To see justice realized, to see darkness destroyed, to see my friends enjoy health and long life, these are the things I hope for. I often question how my own actions might inspire hope within the hearts of those whom come into contact with me. By my presence will one begin to believe that justice will be found? By my presence will one begin to believe that goodness will ultimately overcome evil? I must be diligent in searching out ways to inspire such hope to those around me.

By the bright spring of youth I saw you clearly beauty beyond words, your words beyond beauty
Summer desire burned brightly, Though winter duty bound tightly

Lurid seasons, these two hundred years Your face in my mind, so followed the tears
I weep no more for love or loss Duty, desire, at last, finally, cross.

RoleChapter 2 The Chronicles of My History VII Added Fri Oct 3 09:34:04 2008 at level 51:It has been said that "Time is the justice that examines all offenders". The sun and moon in their eternal dance, the seasons so swiftly passing, years ending, time moves forward. I reflect now upon the past several hundred years, how things have changed and what has remained. I am a Knight-Priest with the favor of my Goddess. I am Marshall of the Fortress of Light. I am Isendor Ravencrown. I am the product of my own self-examination.
It is my own will that causes me to evolve. I strive to become better, to walk the straight path of purity with unwavering steps. I am stronger than I ever have been. To say that I have grown by the force of my own will, would be true. Yet it is clear that my will has been strengthened by forces far greater than myself. Desire, duty, hope, and the Goddess Baerinika who is perhaps the culmination of these in my life, manifested in love.
Long have I lived apart from my kinsman, apart from the green and golden pathways of Darsylon. I was banished long ago for forsaking my duties to find Lalleya and for my words and actions toward the prince. In my eyes, the death of Lalleya proved my actions just, and all these years later I still believe that. Though as seasons have come and gone, my anger toward Danellaran, my hatred toward her killers, and my sorrows have all diminished. They fade away as a flower in the winter wind. Even my loneliness fades as I find companionship with my brothers and sisters within the Fortress. To fight alongside Iltanthal, to converse with Padwei, to watch Jaisel grow strong...these often guard me from my inclination toward solitude.
As I have grown, as I have lived hundreds of years bearing my grief alone, I feel as though I may finally put these things to rest. Lalleya was the love of my youth, and my love for her was pure and strong, but I am no longer young...and she is no longer here.
My heart, my very life, the essence of my joy, belongs now to another.

23998, Isendor's Role Chapter 1
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 1 Dichotomy Added Fri Oct 17 15:35:11 2008 at level 51:My life is defined by incomparable dichotomy. Each day I live, I am faced with the very worst that life on our world has to offer. I see friends die by the sword, I see undead abominations walk the land, I see violence, cruelty, despair, murder, war, disease, poverty, and I am set in the very midst of these things. It is true that I have chosen to stand within the brutal bonds of war and violence, that perhaps others might not be forced to bear such a burden.
The war between good and evil, in this present time and age, is not one which requires all living things to fight for their own existence. Farmers may still farm, tradesman may still ply their trade, though they do so with one wary eye over their shoulder. And so this war is fought by those who choose to fight it, whatever their motivations may be.
Each day I clean the blood from my sword, my armor, my hair, my face, my hands.
Yet this remains, this great dichotomy which is my life. For on the opposite side of the coin I have known joy mortals only dream of in their best hours. Never would I have thought my life to take the shape that it has. If I had been given a glimpse of who I was to become in this present day five hundred years ago, I would have laughed and thought it impossible. Impossible happiness. Impossible love.
I write this now, only one cycle of the sun and moon's dance away from the evening of my wedding. My thoughts drift toward these two extremes that I live in, bloodshed and everlasting love. Without the former, without Baerinika, I would have died long ago.
Despite the great sorrows I have known, I count myself blessed beyond all mortal men.
