Stiggan the Master of Weapons

Description

Long silver hair falls down the back of this pale giant. His clothing is torn
and ripped, looking very worn and tattered, giving view of scarred pale skin
below the outfit. His face, sternly stoic, is covered with barely visible
scars in random places. Bits of flora stick out in his long hair, along with
stains of various color. Sitting in the middle of his forehead is a tattoo re
sembling an upside down sword. In black ink, this small looking blade ends be
the tip, each edge and notch shown in beautiful detail.

Chapter 5

Stiggan's basic mindset.
Added Fri Oct 17 13:51:39 2008 at level 30:

There are no such things as friends, allies, enemies, or rivals in Stiggan's
mind. There are only two things in any association with people, as far as he
is concerned: Favors to be filled, and debts to be completed. If someone
helps Stiggan, in any way, Stiggan will remember to give them a favor of
approximate value in the future. Many people mistakenly think that because
they helped Stiggan, and he helped them back, that they are now allies, or on
"good terms". This is ridiculous to Stiggan-Once a debt is paid, there is
once again a neutral no association with the person in question. There are
three positions people can hold in his head: People who he owes a favor,
people who have no association, and people who have a debt to be collected
|-----------------@----------------|
Favor None Debt

favors are things, of any extent, that Stiggan owes to another. Debts
are the opposite, being the favor owed to him by another. There are varying
degrees on each side, of course, as far as debts and favors go. If someone
has saved Stiggan's life, he will owe them the most drastic favor imaginable:
An action that risks his own life for their request. Also, on the opposite
radical side, someone with a large enough debt owes Stiggan one of their
lives: Collected by either his sword, or by them completing a dangerous
favor.

Also, which was commonly misunderstood, his debts owed and favors could cross
over certain racial or skill-based barriers. If an Elf had harmed Stiggan,
and he decided to take a debt of death from them, it could be taken from any
elf-Despite their relationship to the actually offender. A simple minded
giant, he would always take note of the favors and debts in his head,
sometimes forgetting, or accidentally changing them with no real guilt.

A glimpse of the Owebloods
Added Tue Oct 21 16:51:52 2008 at level 31:

A cold wind blew across the barren village, barely illuminated by moonlight.
Each hut, made of various stones and sticks, helped form a large circle
around a center totem. Slowly, the daylight crawled across the sky, leaving a
trail of light across the ground. As the light hit the huts, immediate sounds
permeate the air, mostly grunting, growling, mumbling, and muttering. As
quickly as the wind had blown, each giant left its hut, leaving for their
day's work.

Stiggan, one of the younger members of the Oweblood Clan, had little
to no work available for him. Like most of the clan's children, he focused on
training in combat, and gathering small, trivial favors from various
younglings. As the day passed by slowly, Stiggan floated from Hut to Hut,
assisting various younger giants with chores, attempting to gather as many
small favors as he could for tonight's games. He would quickly glide to a
giant carrying lumber towards his home, and brisk away a few logs to make the
process faster, receiving the semi-righteous all-knowing nod from the
assisted, acknowledging a favor paid to them. In his head, Stiggan knew that
today was largely more important than others for collecting favors due to the
militaristic game scheduled for this night's entertainment. Perhaps one of
the children he assisted would be on his enemy's team, possibly leading one
to defect to pay the favor, or simply purposefully missing a blow directed at
Stiggan-Either way, favors collected would benefit him, and this he knew.

While passing through the Huts, Stiggan took a moment to collect his
thoughts while staring with pride at the Totem piercing the middle of the
Village. Towering at thirty feet, this totem looked like a sword stabbed into
the ground from a good distance away, but at a closer viewpoint, the visage
was much gorier. A plethora of bones and festering chunks of flesh stuck
crudely together patterned themselves across this giant blade, the hilt of
the "blade" being made of ivory so reinforced and shined, it looked like
dwarven steel. Along with the various body-parts making the girth of the
blade, weapons bordered it, clung tightly together by ropes weaving across
the figure, holding it together barely, but surely. These weapons were of all
shapes and sizes, from sharpened sticks, to well forged polearms, to glowing
elemental blades which would give regular lighting to the Village at night,
showering the shadows with shimmering elemental wisps. Though, during the
daylight, the blades would continue to glimmer, but only in themselves, the
sun's light out-shining each magical weapon. Each weapon, in one way or
another, showed signs of being used extensively at some point-Whether by
scratches across the hilt or blade, blood stain coverings drying on the
weapons, or still impaled leftovers hanging rotting from the points. Pieces
would still be added as the OweBloods were very active fighters. The smell,
though harrowing, barely bothered any of the huts. Being around the smell
since birth, generations passing, they slowly became at home with the smell
of roasted flesh, of decaying metal mixing with dripping bodily fluids-each
gruesome detail only helping keep adventurers and the like from straying near
the village.

With tonight's game still approaching, Stiggan finishe

Rites-- Part 1
Added Thu Oct 30 12:00:34 2008 at level 34:

Night slowly covered the land as daylight fled from the sky. The
Oweblood clan had prepared for tonight's "Coming of age" games, and was
brimming with grunts. The game was simple enough, in idea. Each teenage giant
would be sent out from the Village alone, all starting from the center Totem.
These individuals would be left scavenging the forests around the village for
one another, each left naked except for a loincloth, and expected to find
their own weapons. Once all the young warriors had been sent out, a large
shout would be reverberated throughout the terrain, letting all of the
players know that the game had begun. The rules were simple: Meet other
giants and assist each other or fight until one cannot stand. Continue this
until there is only one individual or group left, which will come to the
totem and be honored. All of the warriors participating will be granted their
mark of manhood as long as they beat at least a single other warrior in
combat. (Only males participate in the Rites, and the gender roles of their
society will be explained in a later memory).

Stiggan slowed his breath, attempting to mask any sound permeating
the air around his small stronghold. He had wrangled himself into a bushel
the size of a tree trunk, compressing his large form like a boulder amongst
the leaves. "If Stiggan does not begin fights, will not be noticed first.
Will have more energy than warriors who fight all ready", Stiggan reasoned in
his mind. Adjusting his loin-cloth slightly to protect himself from the
surrounding foil, he slid a sturdy leather strap from his waist-line. The
leather strap had been slid into his palm by one of the Oweblood
forge-masters whom Stiggan had helped work a few weeks before, paying his
debt to Stiggan. This was not cheating, how-ever, as it was a favor used. One
of the most important aspects of these Rites were the cunning use of favors
amongst the younglings, as all Owebloods had to be proficient in the arts of
a favor economy. You used the favors you had, and paid debts for those you
owed.

This strap, Stiggan thought, would largely help him as a handle if he
could find a large enough stick or rock, assisting in his grip and letting
him swing more accurately than his competitors. He wrapped the small strip
across his knuckles, attempting to find any use of them while he was
weapon-less. A small rustle was heard from a few yards away, and Stiggan
immediately became alert. He listened as closely as possible, barely picking
up the sound of the near Giant floating through the air-The sound resembles
any object moving through air at a speed, letting out a small, almost
inaudible semi-whistle.

Stiggan leapt from the bushes, hearing the movement reach it's
closest location to the bush, and landed a swinging punch across the startled
Cloud's jaw. A grunt filled the silence as the giant slammed into the
shrubbery on the ground. Seeing another opening, Stiggan pulled close to the
rising giant and quickly slammed his leather-clad fist into the giant's
midsection, following the resounding thud with another fist across the
giant's temple. Before this warrior had any other chance to prepare, Stiggan
was on top of him, using his large arms as a vice around the victims throat.
Between the quiet gurgling of the choking Giant and the rust

Rites-- Part 2
Added Sat Nov 22 12:40:21 2008 at level 36:

Cold wind battered through the dying forest in heavy gusts. Between
the sounds of branches breaking, silence is heavy in the air. From an eagle's
view, high above this maze of wood, one would notice both the hovering giants
moving carefully through the air and the crouching forms making their way
through the occasional underbrush. Zooming in to a seemingly normal bush
cluster, a scarred and muscular giant stays prone in his position:
Holding his ambush-prepared location, Stiggan felt the presence of another
competitor near-by. Listening closely, he heard "Giant? Giant? Brought debt
weapon". Stiggan, sensing his opportunity of being armed, swiftly moved to
the near-by Cloud's location. "Brought weapon, debt paid.", the Giant
murmured as he handed the crude blade to Stiggan. The blade was badly
sharpened, and shoddily made of black steel. Stiggan pulled the leather strap
he gathered earlier from his waist-line, wrapping it tightly along the blades
cold hilt. He felt a surge of confidence as he maneuvered the blade through
the air, getting a feeling of its weight and swinging potential. Glancing up
from his repetitious swinging, he spoke harshly at the blade-bringer, "You
will now work with Stiggan. Stiggan now has blade, and could strike now, but
doesn't. Will be Stiggan comrade in combat". Knowing he was at a large
disadvantage, and obviously owing another favor, the Giant nodded his head
solemnly and grunted in recognition.

This duo moved swiftly through the foliage, leaping on other
competitors with harsh attacks. Stiggan would either incapacitate the
competitors found, or beat them until they agreed to pay him a debt of
assistance. After a few hours of relentless ambushing, Stiggan's party
gathered around twenty warriors, all working together and eliminating the
straggling small-grouped giants. Knowing there were few other's left, Stiggan
began to navigate his small army towards the Oweblood camp, preparing for the
all-out-war against other gathered leaders. Stiggan's group, so far, had
crude weapons and barely any equipment. His collected force had the majority
of younger giants, meaning they would be fueled with morale increasing fires
of youth, but fighting with less experience. Having spent most of their time
ambushing others, their weapons were generally rocks, sticks, and rocks tied
to sticks; Stiggan being the only of his group with a metal blade.

Seeing the outline of the clan's totem in the distance, Stiggan
called loudly behind him to his troops, "Prepare for battle. We near camp, we
near enemy, we near victory! Stay close, fight together, collect debts
during battle!". His brigade responded with a hopeful "YAAH!", the sound of
the collect yell echoing off of the surrounding mountains. Stiggan knew that
the moment the enemy group ( s ) were sighted, some of his warriors would
defect to their side, and others of the enemy would defect to his. This
happened every time the rites occurred, a voyeuristic display of debt paying.
Stiggan had a hidden anxiety inside of him; the thought of winning the trials
caused him to tingle endlessly in imagined pride. Wit and strength would
serve no purpose in the first clash of the groups, only debts could decide
the victor.

Rites-- Part 3 End
Added Thu Dec 11 20:29:11 2008 at level 38:

As his group neared the ending place of the rites, the enormous
makeshift totem, Stiggan noticed the other group of younger warriors in
battle stance near it. Raising his blade, Stiggan signaled a charge, and his
group flew towards the enemy as a mass of speeding warriors. A hundred yards
apart. Seventy five. Fifty. Twenty five. An enormous slamming sounded bluntly
in the air as the first lines rammed into each other. Stiggan was amongst the
first line, as was subduing as many opponents as possible. He would bash a
giant to his right, duck a swinging fist, and come up slamming the hilt of
his weapon into another giant's face. Glancing behind him amongst the chaos,
he saw a decent number of "his" giants defecting to the opponent's alliance,
bashing his more loyal companions into the fray of combat. Stiggan smirked
while swinging his blade into the chest of another opponent, imagining how
the same thing must be happening in the back of his opponent's ranks. As the
field slowly lost population, with more and more unconscious and wounded
giants covering the ground, Stiggan burst through a group of the enemy line,
making way towards their current "Favor Leader".

As he moved through the cold, brisk air, he took note of his troops
number versus the enemy's. His followers were slightly outnumbered, but not
by too much. The main reason Stiggan was surprised by this is that he
considered himself the lead favor-holder amongst the younger villagers. If
his opponent actually had a larger amount of debts owed to him, Stiggan might
not have as much as a chance as he imagined. Having only a few scratches on
his barely covered body, Stiggan felt he was prepared enough to fight his
enemy, and knew that with the sword he gathered early on, he would prove, at
minimum, to be a strong fighter. So far in the hassle of combat, Stiggan had
yet to see another giant with a weapon not made weakly from the surrounding
environment.

Almost at the foot of the totem, Stiggan finally caught sight of his
to-be-favor rival. His jaw dropped. The giant, at least as large and as
muscular as Stiggan, was covered in shining mail. He held a large, flaming
morning star in his main hand and an enormous axe dripping caustic liquids in
his other. Not an inch of his skin was visible, each portion of his body
covered in an enormous, shining piece of armor. Finally shaking off the shock
of his opponent, Stiggan tried to resolve himself in his head. The fact that
his opponent had so many favors owed to him that he was fully armored, and
wearing weapons that looked to be taken from the totem itself, along with the
overbearing fact that he had more followers than Stiggan made Stiggan doubt
himself, losing a measure of confidence from his face.

Charging at the heavily armored foe, Stiggan slashed his sword
downwards towards his opponent's head. The armored giant barely move,
swinging the morning star smoothly in front of Stiggan's slice. Not flinching
at Stiggan's force striking the mace, the giant barely pushed the mace
against Stiggan's blade. The push sent an enormous explosion of flames in
Stiggan's direction. Stiggan's body trembled at the force of the blaze, his
hair singing off and his skin charring. The only thing that kept Stiggan
standing was his determination not to falter at the st
