Description

Catching your eye a moment, you pause briefly to examine the being before
you. Towering at the alarming height of nearly seven feet, this intimidating
arial reaches an abnormal height for his race. Two midnight black wings
continually expand and contract, their dark plumage with slight crimson tips
a definitive aspect of the dark arials of the Arial City. His muscular body
flexes with an untamed barbaric intensity, his heavy breathing forcibly
rhythmic and calm despite his alerted and tense state. Splotches of feathers
cover his body but their overall lacking presence gives way to his most
interesting trait - an intricate set of white tattoos depicting an epic tale
that spans the majority of his skin. Common arial symbols of battle and
strength run aside artistic depictions of black lightning in this magnificent
display of body art. Their dull ivory hue matches the strange color of his
eyes, a cloudy white that mimics a fading brightness that produces no light.
His gear is mostly nondescript yet magical in nature, a well-made scroll box
hangs from his belt. Looking more specifically at his combat attire, you
discern the following...

Chapter 5

Once Dark, Day 48 until the Light
Added Sat Aug 9 18:00:52 2008 at level 1:

The splattering of water on his body did little to calm his breathing - the
sound of droplets hitting the floor echoed through the small room. Vyadesh
desperately tried to calm his gasping breaths but he was never given time to
rest. Despite how he fought it, a blood curdling scream narrowly escaped his
shaking beak - the pain was overpowering as the lightning coursed through his
body. The "treatments" had never gotten easier with their regularity. A Dark
arial guardsman drifted slightly over the ground before the screaming
captive, his slow beating wings barely keeping him adrift to hover like a
ghost. Mentally counting to some number, he finally raised his index talon
which simple signal caused the lightning to stop. Vyadesh struggled through
the smells of his burning flesh and bright spots in his eyes, the failing of
his vision attempting to drag him into unconsciousness - he wouldn't give
them the benefit of winning this night without more "work".

A deep sigh of fake concern came from the guard, the performance almost
convincing. Vyadesh lifted his eyes to meet with the Dark's, the rage and
hatred seething with vengeance. The Dark began to once again pace around
Vyadesh - the small room was just large enough for the two of them with only
one opening directly above Vyadesh who was magically ensnared in place.
Through that single window was the perpetual storm created by the Dark for
such occasions, the black lightning crackling around a miniature dark grey
cloud with anticipation.

"This could end easily, Vyadesh - answer your born calling, accept your place
among your kind....put away this nonsense of go-"
"The m-m-more you talk brother, the stronger my c-c-cause will be..."

With a sure smile, Vyadesh oddly began to laugh in his dire situation. After
a deep sigh, the Dark guardsman slowly raised his talon. Speaking just over
Vyadesh's mixture of screams and laughter, the Dark spoke with grave
determination.

"Fair enough, brother. It will continue."

Chapter 4

Day 48, the Light shines

Vyadesh was born into the Dark Arials and from a young age was different than
the others. They would have harassed him, possibly killed him, but his
gigantic size kept the others at bay. It wasn't until he refused to assault
those breaching the battlements that the Dark Guard would react to his
insubordination. The "treatment" was only administered because his brother
had been such a prominent leader, else the final release would have been his
reward for such actions. Each day he was sent back to his cell passed out and
with no aid to the wounds across his body. To pass the time, he would draw
with a pen he kept hidden within the walls but each time they would erase his
work on the walls...it was then he began to draw on his own body. The art of
tattooing was something he had learned over time, his pen guided by his gift
of magic - he wanted to mimic the great generals of the War of Winds, their
bodies inked with their stories. They tried to remove the tattoos with his
treatment, hoping to break his spirit, but the lightning scars just furthered
the art. If they wanted to erase it, they would have to erase him.

The escape wasn't anything of his own accord. The battlements were always
under attack, it was a daily occurrence. Fate just had it that something
different would happen that night - a dark storm covered the city like a
plague over the sky. Unnatural lightning uncoiled and struck the city with
great force - one of the Ma'rin were visiting from the Outlands to meet with
the Leader of the Dark Guard...and the taint of his soul was always followed
by this wretched darkness. Hoping to destroy such obvious evil the Maran
attacked, hoping to slay the Ma'rin who dared enter this continent. Bright
silvery light of the phoenix struck the battlements, breaking through as the
men floated like heavenly angels over the wall with their enchanted wings.
The dark storm fought back with hurricane winds, acidic rain, sharpened hail,
black lightning - the battle was fierce and it's toil was taken on the
foundation allowing Vyadesh to escape amidst the chaos. He ran full well
knowing that staying would be his death - the Maran would fight without him
for now. He had no place amongst the city, no family to call upon or place to
hide long enough...so he left. He wouldn't return until it was time.

Summary of Vyadesh

- Finding refuge in the shade of Hamsah Mutazz, Vyadesh began his training
with a secretive group of arcane thieves in Arkham.

-The tattoos along his left arm and central chest area tell the tale of the
Maran's assault on the Ma'rin that night

- His body has exceptional problems over most arials with lightning from the
torture he received.

- Any who use lightning as a tool against him incur an uncontrollable
vengeance as it revives memories he'd rather forget.

- The feelings most have of forgiveness and mercy are beyond him, knowing
full well that death is the necessity for most so that evil can be destroyed.

- Despite his dark past, Vyadesh tries to keep a sense of humor with his
comrades - laughing is what sometimes kept him sane during the torture.

Chapter 2

The Vision

The fog slowly burned away as silvery flames erupted forth and wrapped around
his dark wings - the scenes before him were distorting but presented a sense
of calmness. Standing amongst the ruins of Baerinika, his Teacher, Vyadesh's
vision was projected to him through the magical tattoos encircling his
trained arcane eye - the details of his past flashed in succession to show
him the path he had begun....

Throughout the beginning of his life, Vyadesh had made comrades among those
that sought the Fortress as well. Seeking the Lady of Purity a few times,
their talks of her life story were very formidable to shape the direction he
would take - he had abstained now from alcohol and foul foods since his
youth, their temptation gone completely. "The path of purity is of intention
not perfection" was becoming a life mantra since his past and mistakes were
not something he could relinquish easily since he had always believed they
would taint his future.

His application process was one he would not forget, for his stumbling block
would be a moment of failure he would always remember. In his hunt of the
Dark, he tried asking a criminal to take down a guild guardian not fully
realizing what he had asked - his quest for purification had become tainted
with his inability to think of what he truly asked in the death of an
innocent. The Captain's discussion was eye-opening even though their
perception of the Law's importance was different - and yet the Captain under
the recommendation of others gave him a chance as he passed into the great
Halls of the Maran. This chance he would fight to not forget since he knew
what a blessing this new home would be in his desire to rid the world of the
Darks.

Beyond those important moments, Vyadesh led a fairly eventful and interesting
life - his chosen path of arcane thieves was rarely well known by others...
perhaps a blessing and a curse as he tried to learn truly what he was capable
of. Finishing his teaching in Arkham, he would likely continue his training
in his desert home - the memory of his own magical bondage providing
direction on how he would effectively fight his enemy. His successes and
failures sculpted his soul to what he would become some day....hopefully a
Maran of Purity that would end the regime of darkness from the face of Thera.

...the visions faded and the mists were broken with the shimmering sleek
forms of Her two jaguars. He greeted their presence with a smile and a
respectful bow, knowing that he was always welcome to remember so he could
move forward.

Chapter 1

Cutting the Strings

Standing over the corpses of the Dark that littered the Fortress, Vyadesh's
arcane eye saw the black tendrils slink back into the invisible cracks
through the floor - he had noticed it from the beginning of his training in
Arkham, but never truly understood it until research driven by curiosity
finalized an answer. His duty was slowly improving as he grasped his position
in the War but those signs would always remind him that there was more to
this then just repetitive killing...

The denizens of the Inferno, the Archdevils were notoriously known for their
contracts - those that were damned would sell their souls for exchange of
temporary power...that or a soul would gladly accept the dark covenant.
Either way, the puppeteers of the Depths played and pulled on the souls of
every Dark - their desires and thoughts controlled by beings with a higher
goal. Even as the Nightwalkers tore into space and reality from their plane,
the strings would erupt and embrace their shadowy feet as they floated around
Thera.

Vyadesh's call to end such higher evils was met with some resistance - others
of the Fortress have died there or become shaken in their faith by taking
sacrifices for the purpose. Talking with Baerinika for instruction and
wisdom, her emphasis was on combat tactics - fighting evil is always a
triumph of the Light but you must be able to fight such power...and Vyadesh
was simply not strong enough yet. Maybe one day he would be or maybe not, but
to make such sacrifices as those of the Fortress or Knights have done in the
past he would need to stand stronger in his path of purity. Sacrifices must
be made but the line you can step up to in the war depends on your strength
of what you can handle.

For now he would just continue his fight, fighting back the Dark to watch the
Archdevils loose their hold on the souls of the mortal realm.
