Istdinen Slin'Thand the Composed and Erudite Scholar, Elder Prophet of the Light
DescriptionClad in a radiant white this willowy figure is the picture of the Highborn race. Handsome lines and angles that define his face, perhaps handsome to some, leave him no more than average among his own kind, but what he lacks in his race's physical beauty he more than makes up for in his haughty demeanor. Tall at six foot seven he stands a head above most of the like humanoid races and in some cases, close to twice the height.
Long and free black hair falls to the end of his shoulders arrow straight and well looked after. Near violet eyes, rare for his kind gaze with a general indifferance towards all but perhaps his own kind. A sense of knowledge is apparent despite his youth. His skin is cream, unmarred by any sort of combat, leading perhaps one to believe he has never seen the tip of a blade ever aimed at him. Academic perhaps, but not seasoned on the field.
A leather satchel, worn with age, but oiled and well cared for is always at his side. Obviously packed with books and manuscripts for reference and study, likely found open at a table, alone, undisturbed and buried in the world of all the arts and wonders of the history of Theran lands and legends. A fine, newly embroidered crest adorns the outside center of the satchel. A blade crossed by a flute over an older unfolded book, the tiniest, but finely Elven script stretch across the pages in delicate silver thread.

21613, Istdinen's Role Chapter 10

RoleChapter 10 Time To Move In a New Direction. Added Sun Jan 27 16:30:41 2008 at level 1:Istdinen stretched his back, pulling himself away from the current volume he had picked up from the great library of Hamsah. An ancient treatise written in the days of the the Servants on the Liberation of the Oppressed. Though many writers had contributed to it and it's base theories were sound, he took issue with a good deal of their approach to many things. They were careless, even at times reckless in their approach to soothing the pains of the world they so loved. It carried insight to both the good intentions of many yet he found it an annoyance. With more thought they would have, beyond doubt, been more effective.
Jotting down a few notes carefully in the margin of the copy of the manuscript; how he would have loved to be in the possession of the original, he gazed up at the tavern's waitress bringing him another pot of tea and frowned. Such a waste living one's life in such lack of further persuits of the mind and spirit was an affront to his own sensablities, but everyone had their place. laying a pair of silver crowns before him he returned to his books and writing giving her no more consideration than he would have the furniture he now occupied.
Istdinen simply could not read further. Months had passed and the voice in the back of his mind sounded louder than ever. Time was drawing near to see and record the world that lay beyond Darsylon for himself. Many had done so before him, but his unbiased perspective, in his own mind, would lay many of the records, roles and legends out for what they really were. He was a scribe and a healer. Pain was a necessary part of the world, and he would aid as he could with the same zeal he persued his studies, but pleasing his own mind and worth not only to himself, but to his Goddess would always come first. Knowledge was out there waiting for him to gather and scribe.

RoleChapter 9 Wilderness and a Library Without a Watcher. Added Mon Jan 28 14:02:48 2008 at level 15:Istdinen lifted the hem of his robe as he and his companions made their way through the muck and fallen nettles. This was not quite what he envisioned when he set out to learn more of the less civilized lands of Thera. The woodsman was filthy, but his axe had come in handy against the dark creatures that inhabited the forest. It had not all been a waste. Istdinen had discovered that almost all of these evil creatures held an intelligence he had not expected from such unevolved minds. The mage had been surprisingly silent for a Gnome. A blessing as his ears could not have taken the chatter concerning nothing of use that the dimunitive race was known for. Neither seemed to hold any faith, but were more than willing to accept the soothing aid of Yean through Istdinen's connection with her divine gifts. Perhaps the show of his unyielding faith would have impact on them. More than likely it would not as they were concerned more with being known by title than mind. The problem with heroes in most cases was their arms were stronger than their minds. His thoughts drifted back to books.
Istdinen had been stuck on his experience at the Inn. A bard, one tied to the great library, had given him permission to enter, but had little else to do with aiding in collecting the information he wished to study of the Theran gods, constellations and calenders. Instead she was more wrapped up in giggling like a common barmaid. Her customer one who surprisingly had dedicated his life to furthering magic and knowledge. Protecting it. Sometimes there was no accounting for taste and dignity. The great library needed more than one who remained accountable for maintaining and adding to it's contents. Istdinen had begun to believe that with his own faith, dedication and search for knowledge that he could not only achieve what he felt was neglect, but be an eye to the events of the world as they unfolded.

21611, Istdinen's Role Chapter 8

RoleChapter 8 Hold Your Ground. Added Wed Feb 6 23:51:58 2008 at level 38:The gathering had been an excedingly long one. Days had passed and yet the debate had gone on without conclusion, without rest, and at the best of times and opportunities to make a point, with misunderstanding. Not all questions could be answered, sadly, when so many voices wished to be heard at once. Istdinen found himself more than once wishing he could pull Lady Siphana aside and have the talk with her alone. Then the Captain.. and so on. Lord Shokai had remained quiet, but there was no doubt that what lay within Istdinen's mind an heart was there for him to pluck and read as easy as opening a book.
It would have been easy to get flustered and walk away, but faith in the Goddess' teachings and the faces of his fellow priests forced him to be as unmoving as the mountain, fluid as the seas and try to hold to reason as if it were all that was left to his world. He might not be able to make them see the clear perspective, but he would try as hard as he did to see theirs. Hraefdaer had almost made this impossible. Istdinen could not hold back his frown, placid expression broken more than once when he began to spout rhetoric verbatum. "This man does not have a single thought that is his own." Shaking his head he tried to quickly regain his composure and take from those words what the good Felar was attempting to get across. He DID act on his own strengths, if in a limited way, and he would be given full attention.
Lord Shokai listened quietly to the debate and in the end left it to what Istdinen had always considered the greatest gift of the Gods of Light. Free will. A 'No' from Hraefdaer, hardly a surprise. A 'Yes' from Ianstalder. He had hopd he would be agreeable, Ianstalder seemed to see, and more importantly respect the point of veiw. That left only the Captain. The vote cast, his fellow priests, his friends, would be allowed their place of honor once more. Beauty of reason, Strength of will and most importantly careful knowledge of truth and diplomacy had won out. Istdinen felt drained. The victory may not have been entirely his, but he had held his ground and The Three had prevailed.
He left relieved, but with one regret.. He was certain Lady Siphana believed he had avoided her questions and concerns. It continued to trouble him as he made his way to The Wastes.

RoleChapter 7 New Paths, Old Goals. Added Wed Feb 6 23:52:48 2008 at level 38:Istdinen looked forward now to the future. So many things to accomplish. At times they felt as though they piled upon him, but that was the nature of the life he had taken up. No use in fret and brooding. There was still much to study and his faith would only be strengthened in mastering the gifts given to him by the Goddess. Teaching that which he had gained through belief to aid others in bettering their personal stability. There was room for him to grow in many directions and he intended to examine them all in great detail. Two however stood out to him as those to accomplish while still in his study of perfection of his talents and overcoming his limitations. He would strive to become the next Cardinal, and in doing so, try to use his influence to renew the vigor of the Great Library. Perhaps even find one of the fabled, said to walk no longer, Keepers of Thera to aid him in his objective.

RoleChapter 6 Striding Past Disappointment. Added Fri Feb 29 01:07:57 2008 at level 51:Taking initiative is many times lauded and praised, as it should be, if every facet of the action does not affect someone negatively. Unfortunately it is not always easy to take action without orders and not let someone down in the process. Sitting in the Hall of Light, Istdinen, went over the information he had begun to collect for recording the lives and events unfolding in this new age, but his mind was hardly with it. With a frustrated sigh he returned the carefully organised papers to his satchel and let himself continue to reflect on more recent events. His talk with the Goddess Iunna that did not go quite as well as he had hoped. He would, of course, continue to offer any collection he managed to compile to the celestial lyceum, but he had doubts of it's reception. Perhaps the constant battles had been taking a tool on him, but marshalling a good defense was at times an excercise in futility. Not for a moment would Istdinen take away from the courage and bravery those around him showed, but humans, dwarves and arials could be so rash. Short life spans perhaps. The offer to better self through practice, through counselling through introspect. One has taken up the offer. One is better than none, but Istdinen would see that number boom. Disappointment is part of bettering one's self, but much more difficult to accept when others fail to learn from their own.
On another front, even though Hiajist had done as well as anyone to put into light the perspective of the teachings of The Sublime Lady it felt as though some who had been part of the Fortress before her followers took up the cause simply could not consider the three a sum of the whole that made the oath to fight for and shield the light. One could not simply put down the thought that the former Captain and Elder could not abide the coming. It was a thought that was ambiguous at best, but not impossible. The Fortess was now lacking leadership on the side of the shield. Now more than ever it was time to step up and set the path straight again so that there would never again be any uncertainty to the limits of what the shield and sword could accomplish together when effected in unity.

RoleChapter 5 Raising the Importance of the Acolytes. Ambitions. Added Mon Mar 24 17:51:39 2008 at level 51:In a way Istdinen found respect for some of the imperials. Not to sat that in any form he agreed with their ways and ideology, but politics seemed more direct, less grating. Time for that aspect of interaction with the others was grating. He wished to teach and learn, yet he found that the more he did discover, the more Yean granted him, the more he opened his his eyes to. Things that could very easily be shared with his allies, the more they called upon him simply to keep them safe for very mundane tasks. How many times would he have to offer to help teach and learn better ways to defend. Losing Armin Stahl was a tremendous loss in this undertaking. He was a true advocate for this, even if he was just human, candle burning out much quicker than his own kin.
Shaking his head and clearing his mind he returned to the work at hand. It moved slowly, but it moved. Others had taken up the cause he had pushed for since his youth. Clearly there were many others than he believed to be that wanted to see the same sharing of knowledge of every sort to better the understanding of Thera and there in the lives of Therans as a whole. He had been an Acolyte a short time, but his goals had not slowed there. He disliked having to push others toward agreement of his taking the position of Cardinal. Gods of the Light willing his actions and efforts would prove that he would remain there long term. Make the difference in backing Acvilar and lift the understanding of the Scribe and current Acolyte to what their whole potential could be. They were a true force just as important as important as the Brigade, sometimes more so, situation dependant of course. The Fortress needed strong and lasting leadership. Focus on many subjects at once was fulfilling, but it was time to set priority toward lifting morale, better organization and less recklessness on both sides of the Fortress. He would see to it and this time he would not allow for less than the message they should be spreading as the shield, keeping the Brigade healthy through their brave and even sometimes foolhardy acts.

21607, Istdinen's Role Chapter 4
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 4 Torn Feelings Added Thu Mar 27 05:33:31 2008 at level 51:Istdinen forced down the anger within him trying to consider all of the facts that the Gods of the Light might have taken into acount in their decision to make Corsix the next Cardinal of the Acolytes. He has worked hard towards the goal and in his heart and mind it had been his. Then again half of him, using all the reason he honed during his many years said that the decision was best for the Fortress and not just his own agenda. His face was placid, but beneath roiled great turmoil. It was not his to decide and the Gods, all knowing, would do what was best for the whole. Lookingdown at his fork he frowned. His line of thought had drifted, the passages had begun to make no sense. He would have to rework those. Cumbling the last couple of parchment in hand he pulled several fresh ones to begin again, but the quill never left the ink well. A deep, agitated sigh was the answer to staring upon the new, blank sheets. It would wait till his mind clearned. A human no less! Quick to judge and jump! No.. no.. he would work within the ways taught and learned. The ways that were for the best.
Hiajist's health still concerned him. His palor grew worse daily, but his mettle never slowed. Not that he expected it to, but if he culd boon him some of his own essence, if the Gods saw fit, he would. Hiajist's strength was not in question to Istdinen, just his longevity. Perhaps he could find a way to heal even that through use of his own life force. A positive infusion as a counter to the necromantic's negative. The knowledge was there, he would simply have to convince the Gods of Light to teach it to him.
With a dissaproving look that once again quickly faded from his face as fast as it came, he pushed his notebook forward and folded it's contents neatly upon the desk, lifting shield and weapons he made his way out of the Hall of Light and into that of the Fire to work off this rare show of anger and emotion, gathering himself to sweat and strain away his frustrations in physical training before once again approaching his work on the knoledge healing arts gifted by the Sublime Lady. In the mean time he would also have to contact a craftsman to mend the surface of his desk. Dragon scales were as strong as the books had suggested..

21606, Istdinen's Role Chapter 3
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 3 Filling Again the Book of Faith Added Fri Apr 18 16:51:26 2008 at level 51:Time has brought about a lessening sense of disappointment at what was first percieved as a failure to achive a single goal of many set out by Istdinen. Corsix has been a fine leader as far as he can tell though he rarely seems to be able to sit and actually speak with him. this has both been a tragedy and a boon in his mind. It has given him time to reflect and renew his focus on what he set out to accomplish initially. Though the writings have come in as a trickle, they have come and that always trumps having no alternate perspectives and paths to consider. This was not a defeat. To look upon it as such would be admitting defeat and were one to do so it would be just as as if a true believer would simply lay down and give up entirely. That is way of those who spread the word of the Sublime. No excuses. No self pity. The loss of work at the hands of the enemy is only a minor setback. The loss of desired position is too simply a minor setback. Memory holds keys to what books and paper might be lost and all can begin anew. That is the true beauty of the way of those who seek learning above all else and in his own opinion, Istdinen has done just that. To the letter of the teachings. With every waking moment comes something new. Be it a test or a revelation to that moment unknown, it is to be made use of. Studied further. Until a true understanding of even what some might consider the most mundane of tasks is brought to razor sharp clarity. For the betterment of self and in the aid of the light and the effort to stave off that which would horde all knowledge to itself, show little if no courage and keep the beauty of the outside world and most especially the mind and soul to itself to further it's own agenda. Dwelling on that single setback brings no furthering of anything worthy of time and effort. Restoring mental, physical and even emotional value to the daily is truly all that matters and Istdinen's path will no longer be clouded by the 'what could have been'.
(Scribbled in the margin of his journal.) Kayella.. Perhaps that is a thought for another day, but truth told, interest beyond what can only be learned from an unbiased position at arm's length seems to grow more difficult. Perhaps the emphasis to the addition of things of emotional value. This will come to be a further search of myself, I am sure of it.

21605, Istdinen's Role Chapter 2

RoleChapter 2 Elder Prophet Duties and Influence. Added Sat May 10 15:54:10 2008 at level 51:A chill breeze blew through the Fortress of the Light. Istdinen in his new mantle of responsibilty say within the Hall of Light, keeping himself involved with his work and keeping abreast with missives he had been almost futilely trying to keep up with. Questions especially arising from the Captain's requests of the Fortress as a whole had been somewhat questionable. The Priest of Yean at first thought that perhaps it was only himself that found issue with some of his old friend's ideas. Mizfara is an incredibly intelligent woman. A long time of observation had shown him that much, but he found fault with what read as a very linear vision of some subjects. The Corsix stepped forward as well as some of the Brigade themselves to speak with him. A meeting should have taken place first. Before the requests and commands had been issued. With all the leaders. Attempts thus far to speak to the Captain had been hindered by the war. That was no one's fault. The front must be met with courage, defense and confidence in the knowledge of what must be done. Still, time wasted in addressing the issues left them to be taken for litteral. Assumptions that all the leaders were in agreement. It occured that perhaps even the most supportive of the Brigade's elder compliment should attend. Perhaps Corsix and Istdinen, even if the Cardinal was not there to back up the discussions and concessions. Istdinen considered himself a diplomat even if he did still, to some degree, have difficulty addressing others. Books were easier to deal with by far. No matter, it had to be done and he would steel himself to balancing out the field the Captain had propsed.
His thoughts drifted towards Humbert. He was young and vital. Most of all Istdinen found that though there was a great heart within the giant, logic did not escape him. Istdinen had forwarded his reccomendation for Corriann be raised in robes, but he felt with the same certainty that Humbert was the best canidate for Marshall. Someone to offset his Felar friend's deep passion. She was not to be underestimated, EVER, but the Marshall, in Istdinen's mind needed to be someone who thought with more than their heart outside of direct battle. Mizfara was direct individual tactics, and exceptional at it without question, but Humbert could train, approved of the idea and supported helping others with their tactics, which much more met the middle ground between Acolyte and Maran.

RoleChapter 1 Encouraging others to write. Keeping up with his own. Added Sat May 10 15:55:48 2008 at level 51:It had been finally coming along. Strange sometimes when he thought about it that the subject he had taken on was of the enemy, but better understanding of the workings of those who opposed could only strengthen the Light. Facts were coming together. Istdinen was finally pleased with the progress, proud that The Sublime Lady felt he deserved the mark that only did more to carry on passing on the word of self betterment. Deriving beauty from the connections made between body, mind, heart and soul. It was gratifying.
Istdinen made a note is his journal. Several agreed to make an attempt to write to gain perspective on their own beliefs and goals. Motivations that drove them to their controlled agressions. It was definately time to press this further within the Fortress. Those who had already agreed he would push. Those who had shown indifference would be pushed. It was not enough to preach of Yean to the masses anymore. A smaller group had to be the focus. One need not believe to find use and betterment in self reflection, gain perspective, or form new ideas about themselves and what their path held for them in the long term. Perhaps curb some of the self destructive nature of some of the Maran.. Even some of the Acolytes. Absently tapping his quill against his desk, he realized he himself should focus on this more as well.
