Menon Aleva the Avenger of the Righteous, Disciple of the Ki-rin

Description

Chestnutbrown hair covers this man's head. Dominating his
face are a pair of dull eyes with the color of smoked glass,
above which two bushy eyebrows can be found. Between the eyes
reside a somewhat crooked nose, and beneath that a pair of lips set
in a cruel line under which a rather prominent and well-groomed
cheek resides. The rest of the man's body gives a robust impression,
his muscular arms ending up in well kept fingernails.

Reflections
Added Sat May 22 11:07:13 2004 at level 11:

I had always assumed the code to be the most important
thing to all templars of my guild, yet many value certain
rules of it as less important than the others. Such as
the giant tribunal who was upholding the law together
with those of evil, is that not dangerously close to
violating the eleventh rule? Or the other paladins attacking
a guild in galadon, effectively breaking the nineth law.

I choose to interpret this not as signs of corruption in
our guild but rather as I am needed more than ever to help.

And the voices that spoke to me at the courtyard up in the
jade mountains, by the very holy temple of Lord Velkurah
himself? What were they? Spirits? Other Ki-rin? Was He
amongst them? But I can feel them, even now. Some part
of them is with me and in my dreams I can hear their voices
again, though I cannot discern what they say.

Chapter 6

Background
Added Wed May 19 14:53:56 2004 at level 1:

In the cold jade mountains of the southern continent there is a village
of humans. This village consists almost exclusively of people dedicated
to the local church, the religion of which is utterly based on worshipping
the Ki-rin named Velkurah and following what to most others is known as
the paladin code. The people of the village themselves only refer to it as
the code and consider it the only way to live.

Menon Aleva grew up in this village and his parents taught him the ways
of the church from birth. His parents in turn were refugees from Seantryn
Modan because of their tendency towards preaching at the market square
(even though a few found their zeal amusing the actual death threats forced
them to leave).

And so it came a time for Menon to leave his village and wander the world
to spread the word of the church, to teach others to follow the code and
to worship the Ki-rin named Velkurah that in turn would lead to a better
society, which in the eyes of the church (and naturally also Menon) was
the removal of all evil. Before doing so however he had been instructed
from home to seek out the very Lord that the church worshipped, to gain
his blessing.

As a person Menon is in one way rather simple minded, he is a Believer
(to the very letter) in the paladin code and that if everyone could
adjust their lives to live by it the world would be near perfect, however
he realises that many lack the courage, pride and sheer goodwill to
adapt to it. Theese people he has a hard time tolerating, and he would
not hesitate to raise his sword should there ever be anyone disrespecting
the very code.

Giving silver to begger mobs, without any imteraction prompting. There's paladinly for you.

Mon May 31 12:17:51 2004 by 'Velkurah' at level 30 (38 hrs):
Given the rest of his empowerment and gave him his last name after watching him have a talk about the faith with Alarian. Everything I've seen from him has been very well done so far.

Tue Jun 15 09:01:23 2004 by 'Velkurah' at level 38 (80 hrs):
He died in SL, allowing his groupmates to escape, then preached the teachings of the paladin code to them when they offered sympathy. Gave him a little experience bonus for it.

Wed Jun 16 13:17:09 2004 by 'Velkurah' at level 38 (89 hrs):
He killed someone in town with his group, via auto-assist. Came to me for penance, I acted somewhat angry and told him to set his own penance, then return when he is through. Looking forward to seeing where it leads.

Fri Jun 18 07:14:14 2004 by 'Khasotholas' at level 38 (97 hrs):
Pretty scrappy, willing to fight, and roleplays fairly well.

Fri Jun 18 09:37:53 2004 by 'Velkurah' at level 38 (98 hrs):
He played out his penance very well. We had a good conversation, then I tattooed him. All around thumbsup.

Wed Jun 23 13:34:37 2004 by 'Thrakburzug' at level 47 (125 hrs):
Did a nice job recovering his item after dying in the raid to lose it. Organized a group and took the Codex for good measure.

Working in Ruined City
Added Thu Jun 17 02:10:20 2004 at level 38:

My days in the ruined city where I served my punisment
after having spoken with the great Ki-rin Lord Velkurah
were filled with hard work. My glorious and majestic
lord had determined that I myself should find a fitting
pennance for my crimes and I believed it could only be
done in helping others, and what city in more need of
help is there but the ruins of tar valon? The fires in
the grove seem to never fade, yet I spent days and days
creating water that I poured upon it. Atleast it I don't
think it will spread any futher. Wandering the city I
found that many were the citizens and merchants in the
need of my healing hands aswell and I was pleased that
I could help close their wounds. The nights I spent in
my guild and for the first time since the event in hamsah
I could sleep well, knowing what awaited me the following day.

Often I worked together with the cityguards or even an
occasional tribunal to clear up and help rebuild the city
but I realise that a greater effort is needed, and I will
be sure to donate my coins not only to the balator orphanage
as previously but also to holy sir Odrigs fund for the
rebuilding of the city.

Over the weeks I have come to the conclusion that while
helping the citizens rebuild the city and removing the
chaos and depravity this way of action is not my true
path. I am a soldier and a preacher, not a city guard or
healer, though I do my best at beeing both.

The man with the plan
Added Wed Jun 2 11:37:22 2004 at level 30:

Goal:
To make perfect society.

Methods:
Remove evil and chaos and preach the ways of the Code and Lord
Velkurah.

Application:
The fortress. While they all fight evil few of them care much
for the law, which is nineth precept of code. We fight to help
the common man. Bringing war into cities not the way it should
be done as common man is exposed to danger and chaos ensues
combat.

As many seek to join the fortress one should make an effort to
speak with all of them to raise awareness of how chaos should
be avoided in process of destroying evil.

Must also remember to inquire why beer and wine is beeing sold
in fortress. Water and bread should suffice, excesses beyond
serves only to cloud ones mind.

A crisis
Added Wed Jun 16 11:37:41 2004 at level 38:

And so it came to be that a group of squires led not by
Menon but by another were informed of the presence of
imperials in the desert of araile. This was fortunate
for the squires were already headed that way to claim
the ebony scepter.

The imperials however headed into the city and before
Menon could object the first one was dead at his feet.

He parted from the squires and eventually headed into
the jade mountains under great torment and angst.
Returning to his village he stripped the armor from his
body and wearing only a simple robe he went to the church
and spoke at length with the men and women within.

Menon had dishonored the code and wished to pay the price.
In the discussions that followed it was determined that
the wisest path for the templar was to find the priest
Odrig of the great ki-rin lord Velkurah and ask for him
a pennance fitting for one such as Menon.

Another day
Added Mon May 31 03:59:44 2004 at level 28:

Woke up. Visited shrine of glorious Lord Velkurah, then gathered
group with lady Itarille and Ror to head for arial city. Relived them
of some tainted prisoners when outlander arrives and kills lady
Itarille. Fighting prisoner and healing lady Itarille proved bit
too difficult, guards join outlander of some reason and I am defeated.
Regathered things and proceeded after a while. Much thinking about
Outlanders. They seek to take down civilisation? Yet many of them
do not carry taint. Later spoke much about them with lady Itarille
whom have become a good friend whose company is refreshing. Does
not believe in balance, only good and evil. Disagreed but discussion
v. interesting. Sadly she believed she should go raid the palace alone.
reminded her it would be suicide and that we must serve the light always
and in the best way. After our discussion she seems better, but might
part Fortress.

In regathering things later I encounter outlander again, had not aura
formed about myself. Death fitting pennance for my lack of concentration.
What good vessel of will am I if the gifts bestowed upon me are not used?
Pathetic. Live and learn however, I walk stronger from the experience.

Meditated upon outlander philosophy from perspective of light. Perhaps
if all are taught how to survive in the wilds first civilisation could
be removed, but no such thing has been said. Must remember to ask later.
No respect for the code, only the 'code of the land' which was along
lines of removing civilisation. They do not realise how good the cities
are at protecting common man, which is reason for cities to be built in
first place, I believe.

No. Cities too important in protecting, therefore I must destroy those
outlanders who find killing innocents such as lady Itarille nessecary.
Heard there be other outlanders who only heal trees or something along
lines of that. Don't mind them. In good society nature and man must
cooperate. Will discuss with others more later.

Applying to the Fortress
Added Sun May 23 11:42:58 2004 at level 21:

The code is ultimately about helping others Menon reasons, and
it's antithesis is evil, which is only about helping one self.
To achive a perfect world (impossible as though it sounds) one
must first remove the elements that seek to without mercy feed
from it and it's inhabitants. The disgusting evil.

Menon has heard of the Fortress of Light and how it was created
by the Skyborn god Shokai to combat evil. It would seem a fitting
course now to join them to futher the betterment of the world
to ultimately help those that would otherwise suffer under, for
instance, the Empire who Menon has observed holds many a cunning
member in it's army.

Having also heard that some of the Marans in their will to persue
evil disregard the nineth rule of the code Menon is determined
he can be of great help, both in teaching the code and in fighting
evil.
