Janos Ist'uss the Conceit of Iniquity

Description

Entering your vision is a tall figure
draped in robes of the darkest shade. Archaic
runes adorn the trims, glowing and pulsating
to an eldritch rhythm of some unseen force. While
most magi tend to keep their faces hidden within the
shrouds of their hoods, this magi seems quite comfortable
with displaying his appearance to the world. A white streak
flows through this figures hair like a pearl wave, starting
from the front of his head and curling all the way to the
back of his ponytail. A sardonic grin constantly adorns
this figures flawless and bony face, displaying a cocky
vindiction to those around him. His purplish almond
eyes shine and pulsate in constant rhythm with the
runes that cover his clothes. His height is common
for one of dark-elvish origin, towering over
the more shorter of races who would gather around him.

The shadows swirl and sift about this figure, dancing
and flowing about his presence as if he can change
the element of light at any given moment. His hands
are supple and devoid of any calouses, burns or marks
that would usually accompany one of the transmutation
profession. It seems that this character would do
whatever it takes to avoid any manual labour of any
sort, and he is quite possibly high enough in a regal
standing that he may very well have been able to avoid

Chapter 10

Janos's Past, pt 1 (Introduction)

Beauty is a sign of divine blood, a calculation of how
much a person should earn in life and their standing in respective
castes and status amongst society. At least, this is what Janos was
raised to believe.

His past was shrouded in mystery from other, more nosy Houses in
in the Underdark. Though House espionage was a common occurance in drow
society, not even the smartest, stealthiest or slyest of spies
could sneak in to the Janos's House, Ist'a (Vanity). All who attempted
were thwarted very quickly by the ever crafty and brilliant Ilithslandry,
Janos's mother. Her standing amongst the Underdark was one that demanded respect
but always had its share of envious House leaders and Matrons, with
constant attempts to overthrow her Matronage through whatever means necessary
and always ending up to no avail.

Janos was raised in secrecy his entire life by his mother. Rumous
constantly circled about on the Matron having another kid, this one
more vain then the last. Though this lead Janos to developing
many odd issues of not being able to socialize, through Ilithslandry
great network of influence, Janos was able to be home schooled in the arts
of transmutation magic - the magic that his mother always wanted to control
but never had the time to study, nor the innate ability to acquire it.
This child would be raised to perfection, to raise above the other Houses
and seek dominion over all political spheres within the Underdark. All for the will
of his mother.

Chapter 9

Janos's Personality

Janos's personality is not unlike most selfish magi
that walk the lands. Janos, having been brought up with both magic
and the strictest etiquette training, knows when to speak and be
spoken to. Before he would add to a conversation, he carefully weighs
what he says and if would benefit him or not. Though he looks
down on all creatures that aren't up to his standards of appearance,
he recognizes that even the ugliest and dumbest of brutes
can one day come in useful for his own purposes. Unfortunately,
Janos's composure can slip when remarks against his apperance are
made in an insultive manner.

Janos has also been raised to highly respect all Matriarchal figures
in underground society and because of thus, would rarely take orders
from a man. Though he is respectful of these patrons,
Janos has also been taught that any and all authority
above him is a threat to his quest to gain knowledge and because
of thus, Janos will gladly strike at anyone who holds power above
him if the opportunity arises. Political intrigue was a part of Janos's
childhood since his birth and he is quite knowledgable on using
people against each other for his own personal gain.

Chapter 8

The Chasm and how it relates to Janos

Janos has recently learned of the Scion of Eternal Night, the
dark pact dealers of the Chasm. Having little interest in gaining political
power in Thera and being more interested in gathering his own power, Janos
has decided to align himself with this power in Thera. He is quite aware
having studied some minor conjuration in the Underdark of the deal that must
be made at the hands of the Nightwalkers, but he is willing to do so.
His quest to strip the world bare of beauty and replace it with his own
will fall in alignment with the Shadow Plane and if not, he shall try his best
to make it so.

Chapter 7

The Chasm, his application and the Advisor.

Having found interest in the Chasm and Scion of Eternal Night,
Janos decided to send a well written application straight to the hands
of the Advisor and Chancellor. Though Janos is quite used to speaking to
other Drow, he found it quite insulting that his lineage was
unheard of to Llorenz and Ravon. Not only this, but as the Advisor
gave Janos a mission to learn much in his guild, upon completing this
Janos was met with more conversation and no results. Janos believes
that both the Advisor and Chancellor themselves are VERY aware of
his lineage, and seek to restrict him from gaining the power he rightfully deserves.

Once Janos enters the Chasm, he will asses the political situation
within and plan his next move.

Chapter 6

The First Note.

Janos emerged from the shadowy depths of the Chasm, to once
again re-acquire the magical items used in protecting his perfect
self from harm. As he slightly walked passed the shorter shadowy Ccul'Gra
standing on the outskirts of the Chasm (not looking at him on purpose), he noticed
an odd tingling sensation coming from within his mind. Closing his eyes, an image
of a note attached to a corpse floating in the Khalid river. Opening his eyes
and perplexed, he immediately moved to the destination shown to him in the vision. Lo
and behold, a bloated corpse floated slowly down the Khalid river, with a note attached
to the creatures neck. Floating closer to the corpse, he noticed the creature was vaguely
humanoid, perhaps half-elf or half-drow. As he reached down for the note, he smirked
at the way the note was attached to the corpse: Via a large hairpin, pierced entirely
through the corpses neck. Removing the hairpin, he opened the note and began to read:

Your matron calls my son. I have been watching you and am disappointed in your
apparent influence within this supposed Chasm. These creatures and their petty
quest to bring the Shadow Plane and Ccul'Gra amongst here are below you. We
have a more important quest.


Your mother hereby stands disappointed. You know what you must do.
Signed underneath the note penned in flowing drow script was
the name that Janos dread to read one day.
Ilithslandry Ist'Uss

He crumpled the note in his hand, sneered a moment and continued
on his duties. He would show his mother he was no welp to speak down
to. He was Janos Ist'Uss, the Perfect.

Chapter 5

A second note, Impact, Casting out

Janos awoke with a start, the familiar ringing noise
shaking him from a dreamworld of which only he was aware.
Standing up from his meditative position on the Chasm's cold
dark earth, he concentrated on the noise's origin inside his
head. Closing his eyes and regulating his breathing, his
vision began to shift and swirl with colours, displaying
different locations in the land surrounding the Chasm
before finally settling down underneath the surface.
Shifting and swirving through the deep tunnels of the
Underdark, bypassing different creatures
killing, mining or researching, the vision finally settled
on what Janos instinctly knew was his home. The vision was
brought upstairs slowly, as a beautiful mature Matron
meditated in her room.
Janos watched and waited, as the Matron opened her eyes
slowly to gaze deeply in to where Janos's vision has brought
him. Janos smirked, waiting for some clever reply or snippy
reactive belittling comment to which Janos would simply nod
and walk off. His surprise was apparent when the Matron
opened her mouth and screamed 'KILL HIM, THAT WEAKLING!'.
All of Janos's regal training, all his etiquette and all
of his stonehearted hardening of his soul
immediately cracked and vanished, as the one person
whom all of his life was devoted to screamed for the
death of her son. The vision quickly reversed
through the Underdark, passing everything
previously albiet at a blinding speed.

Janos opened his eyes and regulated his breathing once more.
Training that was taught to him by the most logical of Magi
in the Underdark, teaching him to relax and desensitize
himself from the vision that struck his brain and
rattled his nerves. Taking in the cold damp air of
the Scion's Chasm before him, he took notice of the
things surrounding him. Nothing had changed in the room,
his clothes were the same and the only noticable
difference was an extreme amount of sweat on his forehead.
As he went to wipe the sweat from his brow, he took notice
of a note that had dodged his intial observation of the
Chasm. Opening the note, he read the words that
he knew were going to be there:

"Janos, My Son,
You have failed me. Your membership within the Eternal Night
has done nothing to further our political power in the
Underdark or even on the surface. The Magi who you
wished to learn from have fled in recession from the
hordes of Barbarians, Imperials and Accursed Lightwalkers
that have infested the surface. You are now alone and
because of your lack of research in to this beforehand, I
hereby cast you out of my arms and out of the house of
Ist'Uss.

You are no longer my son. Would I see you on the surface one
day, if I was to not kill you immediately with my dirk,
I would walk by you without acknowledging your coming from my
womb. As far as myself and the House are concerned, you never did

He crumbled the note as it magically disappeared from his '
hands. He had been betrayed by his Mother, the Matron
from whom all of his magical training and teaching
has originated from. The woman who controlled his past,
and whom he believed would inevitably control
his present and future. He was alone. An interesting
thought Janos surmised, as he would never thought he

Chapter 4

Zurcon, the Demon and Elfinslayer

Janos traversed the corridors of the monestary, searching
for artifacts or items of any interest to the Chasm's quest. Thoroughly
searching through a few of the Prelate's rooms, he happened upon
notes that spoke of the demons assaulting the Loch temple and
the eventual collapse of the Temple's Order from within. Having
been raised amongst the politically warring Houses of the Underdark, Janos
could appreciate the espionage and subversion that these demons
used to take the Order down. Continuing his search, Janos eventually came
across some information leading to a Temple underneath this one! Perplexed and curious
he followed the clues that lead to an eventual discovery of a secret
passageway leading to the Temple described in the notes.

As he travelled through the cold damp passageways of the temple, memories
of his home in the Underdark flooded back to him. Raised as a secret, trained and mentally
honed to be a weapon to use against other Houses. Trained to be stonehearted, emotionally
devoid to others suffering and apathetic to pity. Noticing something out of the
corner of his eye, he stopped, realizing he was surrounded by demons of all shapes
and sizes. He tread carefully amongst them, feeling a certain power grow stronger
and stronger as he searched the corridors. Following this power like a beacon, he
eventually came across a crack in the wall, from which all the great power was
originating from. Climbing within, he fell to the ground loudly and looked up
to see the Temple of Zurcon. A temple devoted to the search for the fated Box of Zurcon. A
Temple built below another, to bastardize all the good that the Order above it attempted to bring.
Janos smirked to himself. Strangely enough, he felt completely at home amongst the ruins
and darkness of the Temple.

Chapter 3

Janos's Entry #1

I have succesfully found entrance to a Ruined Temple of Zurcon
underneath the Loch Grynmear. Quite a spectacle to behold, with paintings that
would make even the most highly revered Drow artist cry in envy. I find this
whole concept of a Temple beneath a more benevolent quite ingenius, really. Whomever
followed the Elfinslayer, Zurcon, must had some devious plan to corrupt the surface
Order and use it for its own good.

I take solace knowing that the numerous surface walkers and Maran crawling
about search for me endlessly, only to end up empty handed. I don't find their quest
to search me out and destroy me surprising. I am Janos Ist'Uss, after all. I will continue
to attempt to speak to this Zurcon throughout my journey, though it has thus been
elusive. A less magnificant being would consider the lack of communication by this Demongod
as a sign of being unworthy. Ha! I am Janos Ist'Uss, birthed of the First House, Scion of
Eternal Night. Who's to say some lowly Demongod does not want MY attention?

PS: I did deal with this putrid being who calls herself 'Brianna' underneath the
Temple. I don't know what she is rambling about, but it certainly wasn't worth my time.

Chapter 2

Janos's Entry #2

*A being wavering in and out of sight silently flows towards a room in the
Chasm. Placing it's hand on the door, it hisses in an unknown language. After waiting
for what seems to be a very long moment, the door swings open magically, with a
darkly robed magus leaning on a table writing something. The being places a note on the desk
and is dismissed by the magus with a wave of his hand. Sighing, he picks up the note and
begins to read it*

It seems another applicant wishes to join the Chasm's Fold. Not surprisingly,
I find the next one as uninteresting as the last. A magician adept at changing forms, indeed,
but does he posesses the fortitude to withstand attacks on all fronts by a multitude of
enemies? I sneer to myself, thinking of the complaints to come if this one was inducted. I'll
place this in the pile so the Advisor can see it... the same pile that nearly reaches
my Chasm's roof now. I wonder what both the Chancellor and the Advisor would
think if they knew whom I was searching for now? They will surely never find out until
it is too late, but it is interesting to think. Zurcon's plot is in sync with the Night, I am
sure this much, but that is not what would bother them. The fact that the Elfinslayer
would bless only the most powerful is what would rock any political foundation here. I
will stay silent on this matter in front of them.. for now.

*The Chasm shakes and a Nightwalker screams via a telepathic channel, informing Janos
that the Chasm is under attack. Sneering and gathering his things, he heads
to the Convergance, looking upwards at the force that awaits him. Counting nearly six
Fortress warriors, he casts a spell of cloaking and wades by them. As he heads up to their
presence, he waits and glances over all of them*

These beings make my research quite troublesome. Maran, they call themselves. Warriors of the
"light", always searching for ways to combat my research or attempting to hunt down those
who may prove useful to me. These beings that feel they are so important to the world, so
righteous in their quest to destroy the Chasm. They would cringe and shiver at the powers
that will be unleashed when the Night falls over Thera. The surface elves will especially dread
the power that I seek to unleash, for when the mighty Zurcon aligns himself with the Night, Thera
will never be the same

*Janos moves to a safe area and uncloaks himself, bringing forth the Journal he was writing
in previously*

Yes, I have somehow become a bastion of the political influence of the Chasm. I lend
this to my vast political training in the Dark, granted forth by my Matron Mother. Applicants
speak to me, enemies parlay with me and the Advisor has me interview potentials in the hopes
that my great knowledge will pick something out that may either show weakness or something
useful inside. Now that I think of my political knowledge, I find it quite odd
that no historian or bard has asked me to interview me. I will work on this later, perhaps
as I continue my search for information relating to Zurcon. I believe I am coming close. Once
I have obtained his favour, I will hold the power to retake my position in the First House and
become the first Patriarch of a Drow house, setting a precedent that will rock the very
society that I was made to rule over.

Chapter 1

Janos's Entry #3

I will make this quick. I have found the book that has given me to clues
as to find information leading to communication with Zurcon. I believe I come
ever closer to reaching his attention. Once I achieve that, nothing will stand in my
way.

My Mother has been attempting to contact me lately. I believe the ever lasting power
struggle in the Dark has reached a climax, with her resorting to me to come save her
from the political forces that allied against her. Pity. I wished to kill her and watch
her bleed myself. A fitting end to a Matriarch of immense ego and a notorious reputation, but
I had a much more fitting end to her. She would have been my first sacrifice.

Sacrifice. An odd word to conjure forth on this journal. I believe, however, that once Zurcon
can be contacted, I will gather the forces of the Scepter around me to bring forth an army
never before seen on Thera. Utilizing the Demon-Gods powers and the Ccul'Gra's strengths
in dimensional travel, I will rip open a portal to Thera. With this, Zurcon will be able to
wipe Thera clean of the denizens whom he wishes, and the Ccul'Gra will become my personal
soldiers and bodyguards, protecting my reign as a true Patron of the Dark.
