Description

You see an aging human here, dressed in fine clothes and leathers. Standing
approximately six feet in height, he appears healthy and fit, though without
the stout build of a fighter or someone accustomed to physical labor. His
hair and clothing are kept neat and trimmed, likely the result of someone
accustomed to structure and order. As he moves, you notice he favors his
left leg heavily, but he stubbornly refuses to let it bother him. His
brown hair has begun graying heavily, giving his stern expression a certain
gravity.

Background

Born to an aristocratic family of Voralian City, Rywald grew up in a very
ordered, structured life. A very bright lad, his youth was spent as a page
and scholar for the Triumvirate. As such, he is accustomed to primarily
overseeing projects, and has a tendancy to underestimate the effort actually
required for many tasks. Typically aware of matters in an intellectual
sense, though not the actual actions and duties which are performed.
Although he generally has the best interest of his populace at heart, this
detachment does cause him to be considered authoritarian at times.

Unfortunately, this is also indirectly responsible for his recent
adventuring. Although not directly under the command of the Peacekeepers of
Voralian City, the city has long viewed the members of the Fortress of Light
with favor. Known as defenders of the light, their presence has typically
been viewed favorably when passing through the city, destroying whatever
evils may threaten. It happened that as Rywald was heading home one night,
he happened to hear to shouting nearby. Seeking to offer aid where he could,
he came across a small battle. A black-clad rogue was fighting a number of
the city's peacekeepers. Confident in their abilities, Rywald thought to
observe the matter, not recognizing the severity of the situation. Many of
the guards began succumbing to wounds, until a priest arrived bearing the
mantle of the phoenix. Preaching fire and destruction upon the area, the
rogue was driven off, though not without collateral damage. Unaware, Rywald
had remained too close to the conflict, and among the fire and earthquakes,
Rywald himself was wounded by collapsing buildings and debris.

Waking to find himself in healer's care, he is informed that his left leg was
crushed by the impact, with a severity that even the healers were unable to
fully repair. Though usable, he carries himself with a severe limp.
Previously unaware of such dangers to the general populace, Rywald decides to
apply his talents towards the guard (in an officer's position of course),
hoping to improve the protection of citizens. He does, however, see most of
the larger organizations as vigilantes of sorts, viewing law and order as a
greater good. Realizing the need for mobility, he has begun studying the
craft of shapeshifting to try to improve the condition of his leg and set out
for adventure.

Law and the Blood Tribunal

In his years as a Magistrate, Rywald has become rather cynical towards a
majority of the adventurers of the land. What few that aren't attempting
to break the law and escape judgment attempt to frame others, and even
within the Spire he has encountered corruption. He believes strongly in
the spirit of what Law, and the Tribunal attempt to accomplish, but feels
it is corrupted by those who seeks to use it for their own benefit, and
excessively bound by it's own rules and traditional interpretations.

Rywald is conflicted over situations where he feels the current
interpretations of Law do not follow their intended purpose, but is
unwilling to cause discord by causing inconsistancy among Magistrate
rulings.
