Azatrak the Legend of the Battlefield, Anathema to the Empire

Description

This arial is fairly average in height and weight. Though the
adjectives muscular and attractive define his attributes. His
beak first draws your attention. Rarely have you witnessed one
of his kind to have a prominent beak. Young in appearance, he
is adorned with feathers of many, many colors. Through closer
scrutiny, his eyes reveal a light blue tint. His posture seems
perfect and he is otherwise unblemished by any disfigurements.

Chapter 1

The Meeting

Their convention was more of a festival. Happiness had fallen right into
their laps. The elders saw it unfit for a King to be so corrupt as to be
a cheater. More importantly, since he was a cheater, he lacked knowledge
to lead. They called for his expulsion and took it one step further. An
appeal was made to the King to banish his cheating son.

The King never did favor the youngest. And in his despair over Crallix,
cared little of the events transpiring. Cared little for the repercussions
of what was happening. He had lost one son, and lost the will to keep the
other. The appeal was granted. I believe to this day he did not even know
the name on those papers. Azatrak was expelled and exiled.

Chapter 2

Interception of the Plot

Fate would have it no other way, I suppose. The day of the meeting,
the various elders pondered. The teachers, the zealots, the merchants.
In their "infinite" wisdom, they vigorously sought a way to exile
Azatrak. But yet, none of the groups found an answer, the answer
that would fall right into their laps.

It was a big day. The students were to convene for examination on the
subject of warfare. Questions such as the proper execution of various
maneuvers. Azatrak wasn't nervous, he knew well this subject. It was
before lunch, when he went to the bathroom, his future would alter.

His name was Menthros. A peer of Azatrak's, he was a lacky. He showed
him some papers. It was a key to the test. Azatrak was disappointed
and disgusted. "I don't want this," said Azatrak, "I just don't need
it." The headmaster walked into the bathroom. But he didn't hear that.
He did, in fact, see in Azatrak's hands those papers.

Chapter 3

The Elders

With Crallix's disappearance, it became evident Azatrak would claim
the throne. There shouldn't be a mistake made in underrating the elders
periodic conventions. They were not powerless by any means. They
were comprised of the school teachers, the zealots, and the merchants
whom in essence were the spine of the kingdom. Likewise, they also
agreed on very few issues. In fact, in all my time, I can only recall
one issue; the necessity in preventing Azatrak's succession.

And so the plot began.

Chapter 4

Crallix's Disappearance

Metaphorically, Crallix was a straight arrow. His peers loved him,
too. But for different reasons. It wasn't him that did not falter
in the face of adversity, it was his blade. When watching him fight,
one could not discern that he even controlled his motions. They
defined it as purity in its' purest form. He was truly heir of the
King.

Crallix knew well how others perceived him, he also knew well the
lack of confidence others held in his brother. But he never shared
those sentiments. He knew well the vice(s) of his brother, but held
faith in his strength.

The elders would periodically convene to unify their political thoughts.
Crallix was invited and attended as heir to the Throne. There came a
meeting where he was unable to attend. In a campaign to far away lands,
he was thought to have perished. It was that meeting, they planned.

Chapter 5

The Lesser Prince

He was inconsequential in the world scheme of things. He was
the younger sibling. It isn't as if he would be the successor.
Crallix, his brother, now there was a great specimen. A perfect
one, maybe. Scholarly, athletic, ready. That prince was known
by all. That prince was adored by all. Azatrak, he was the
leeching prince. He wasn't deserving of the title or recognition.
That was their perception of him.

Azatrak may have warranted some of the criticism. He knew well
of his status. He never faltered in reminding others of it, too.
He attended a fine school; one that preached piety, discipline,
charity, and other virtues. His personality was his boon. His
peers were loyal to him, he was a pillar of popularity. But that
surely did not translate with the elders, whom regarded him as
an arrogant, lazy, and mischevious boy. Which, in their credit,
he very well may have been. But I knew the moment I watched him,
Azatrak possessed greater qualities.

They could not expel him. They could not take away his nobility.
What, then, could they do?
