Mjothvitnir ka Motsognir din Aurvang the Hammer of Heretics, Magistrate of Hamsah Mu'tazz
DescriptionLarge, ham-sized, hands constantly gripping and relaxing, seeming to strain against the webwork of nearly tattooed, ground in dirt between layers upon layers of calloused skin, sending ripples up tightly corded muscle that seems to seethe and writhe underneath a layer of course black hair nearly thick enough to be called a pelt.
A pelt that seems to have no end, as it struggles to invade every exposed piece of flesh and drown it in a sea of hair that cascades over his body starting at his crown and flowing down in a chaotic, white-water jumble over the underlying boulders and jutting jetties of flesh and bone that make his face and head look like a sack pulled tight over a pile of coarsely ground ore.

RoleChapter 31 Lastname Explanation. Added Sun Apr 15 02:43:49 2007 at level 1:ka Motsognir means "Blood of Motsognir".
Used by Dwarves where he comes from to signify the most important male ancestor in the Family.
din Aurvang means "From the fount of Aurvang"
Used by Dwarves where he comes from to signify the most important female ancestor in the Family.
Aurvang being the first-born of 12 daughters of Motsognir, and the hated older sister of the evil Thekk who was Motsognir's heir and firstborn of 5 sons.
Thus Mjothvitnir ka Motsognir din Aurvang means: "Mjothvitnir of the blood of Motsognir by the fount of Aurvang"
Roughly translated, of course.
The signifigance of Motsognir is explained in the sections of the role that talk about theology.

15320, Mjothvitnir's Role Chapter 30

RoleChapter 30 Formative Theology, beginning primer. Added Sun Apr 15 02:46:17 2007 at level 1:Much of Mjoth's personality, goals, and desires come from his firm belief in the truth of his Family's Theology, passed down through the years. To tell all of the stories and mythology of his family's past would take years, but during his youth he soaked it all up. Follows is a rather sparse summation of the main points of the beginning of this historical (at least he believes so to his bones)family story.
All Dwarves know that they were made in the form of Nordiach, and to tend Nordiach.
But it took many years for the first dwarves to form something resembling a structured Society, being quite busy with their tending duties at first.
The First King, was the First mortal dwarf to awaken. And the Strongest and mightiest ever to live. The name that the People gave to him was Motsognir, meaning Battle Roarer, in reverence to his fierce battle cries that he used while leading the People.
Unfortunately, his firstborn son was a slothful wastrel in almost every way, and more than a little selfish and dark in his soul. His name was Thekk.
When time came for Motsognir to turn over his crown, his son wasted no time in misusing his power in a number of ways.
** Most of which are used as morality stories when teaching young dwarves what not to do. Which has led to many curses, insults, and every-day phrases such as "You Thekked that up", "Thekk take you!", "Thekks blood is strong in your veins", or the much shorter "Thekk-spawn whore!", and so on. **
He was so horrid that Motsognir, on his deathbed, not only cursed his own son, but Himself and any who bore a drop of his own blood throughout the rest of time. Until something happened. What that something is has been lost. His words faded off while he died, and no one ever knew what would stop the curse, though many in the Family have speculated.
The Kingship, because of the curse, forever passed from the Family, and rightfully so, so wicked had Thekk been.
And all of the descendants of all of Motsognir's other children were either to work as lowly laborers in the mines, or as priests dedicated to Justice, to make up for Thekk's works.

RoleChapter 29 Formative Theology, personal specifics. Added Sun Apr 15 02:47:24 2007 at level 1:The Part of the Family's theology that bears most on Mjoth's choices in life, both past (and he hopes future) is thus:
It is said that Motsognir was so great a Dwarf, that he was given the Immortality of the Gods.
Motsognir's greatest love in his mortal life was Justice, which was what made him such a great King and Dwarf. However, it was this love of Justice that forced him to curse himself. And this curse tempered the gift of Immortality, and tied his Life-force to Justice itself.
He could not live as most Gods do. Even most minor Gods and Avatars. His soul was Tied to Justice. And he could not exist in a conscious state unless there were enough in the World who willingly lived under a Just Law.
For much of Thera's history, Motsognir has, because of this, been completely unconscious.
Even during times when Mortal Theran Law was at it's most powerful, Motsognir had but little consciousness, perhaps that equivalent to a sleeping mortal, due to the amount of corruptness and unjust blood thirst in those who would force such a law as might be Just upon others against their will, making such law Unjust.
But recently, in the last few hundred years, he has been stirring from this slumber, and his own dreams have started to leak into the dreams of those of his long-removed descendants that have within them some portion of the spark of his own passion for Justice.
Mjothvitnir is one such.

RoleChapter 22 Where to pray? Added Tue Apr 17 10:59:52 2007 at level 8:Mjoth is of two minds on where would be best in helping him reach the correct state of consciousness to allow him to send prayers that would reach Motsognir.
Of course, the first thought, would be to find someplace in Thera where Justice reigns and holds strong sway.
But then again, Motsognir was the first Dwarf to awaken, and spent most of his life in the Earth beginning the great works of creating what would become later the great Halls of the Dwarves, and tending Nordiach.
As such, would not it be best to find the deepest cave available?
Mjoth isn't sure yet. He is hoping to have talks with others of the Blood (dwarves) and get answers without actually asking right out.
After talking to another Dwarf paladin, he is convinced that the underdark, in caverns deep in the earth, is the best place to enter the right state to reach Motsognir.

15310, Mjothvitnir's Role Chapter 20
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 20 Spreading the Word! Added Mon Apr 23 22:12:24 2007 at level 20:Mjoth began talking about Motsognir and his son Thekk, and True Justice to anyone who would listen shortly after he began his travels.
But, he has hit some speed-bumps, because some of the things he has learned have confused him somewhat.
At first, He assumed that all Dwarves knew of Motsognir, and so he was going to preach to all of those who had not heard...
But then, Dwarf after Dwarf that he met had never heard of the Great Motsognir! Mjoth's inner dismay stunned him for quite some time.
And so, he changed, perhaps he should concentrate only on re-educating the Dwarves on their own history? This probably came from his subconscious Dwarvo-centric view of the world.
But as time went on, The Dwarves he met weren't all that interested.
And time and again, The arials, elves, humans, svirfnebli, would seem quite interested in hearing tales of Motsognir.
He has spoken of Motsognir to enough people, to realize that trying to preach to the unwilling-to-listen can often do more harm than good, as they might change their lives to live just the opposite of what Mjoth's goal is, just for spite.
And so, how he preaches, and who he preaches to, has evolved somewhat, but he is quite satisfied with his progress so far, having brought word of Motsognir's stirrings to many already.
But he is holding off from returning to the place deep in the earth where he first felt the tangible presence of Motsognir, because he wants to have taken the first step in proving that his entire life is dedicated not only to spreading the word, but also to standing up for Justice with his life if need be.
And he has yet proved even to those of the Spire that he deserves a place. How can he bring the good news to Motsognir, until there is good news to bring?

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 21 Early goals, almost there. Added Mon Apr 23 21:57:05 2007 at level 20:After receiving confirmation that Motsognir was stirring, he set out to achieve the first of many goals that he has set for himself.
First, he wanted to prove to himself that he had what it took to stand and fight, when fighting was necessary. It was rough going at first, but he believes that he has enough of a basic knowledge so that he will at the least not embarrass Motsognir when he wades into combat in the name of Justice.
The second goal, is to prove to Motsognir that he did not make a mistake in allowing Mjothvitnir to work towards perhaps waking him fully.
It took him quite a long time, of searching and introspection, trying to find that one thing that would be the Proof he needed.
But, he had a dream, perhaps from Motsognir, perhaps from his own subconscious, which answered him. Proving himself to Motsognir is not going to be one thing, or one act. It will be a measure of his entire life, all of his actions.
To work towards this end, in addition to his preaching, he hopes to help the Just Law of Thera grow stronger.
He sought out the Leaders of the Spire, and was told he could not gain entrance to the Spire until he had advanced more (20th lvl).
Feeling a desire to start work as soon as possible, he worked to reach that point, and now seeks out the Leaders of the Spire.

15313, Mjothvitnir's Role Chapter 23
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 23 Personality Added Sun Apr 15 20:53:05 2007 at level 1:Mjoth is about as Humble as a Dwarf can get. Now, there is debate if even the most Humble Dwarf would be considered less than a maniacal egotist if he were a Human.
The Humbleness stems from his family and his upbringing. There have been many in the family who have railed against the Curse, who have tried to live outside the Curse, and shown more and more that the Curse is Just.
But, in large part, the Family takes living with the curse, and accepting their status as second or third-class Dwarves with good grace as a point of Pride.
He is soft-spoken....for a Dwarf. And more than a little bit of an introvert. Something he has to consciously struggle with every day in his quest to bring the truth of Motsognir to the masses.
While he is very humble, and accepts his "lesser" status among other Dwarves, there is no small part of him that towers with Pride that while other races were created as toys, or actors, for certain gods....the Dwarves were created to tend a God himself, and created in that God's image.
Dwarves have purpose. Dwarves are important. Most other races are bit-players on the stage of Thera, in his view. Now, this does not mean that they aren't good allies, or strong enemies, just that in the end it is Dwarven blood that matters.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 24 Religion vs pantheon. Added Sun Apr 15 20:52:02 2007 at level 1:Mjoth detests Grurk. Mjoth believes that Grurk, while powerful, is an evil creature who cares nothing for justice. Just the opposite in fact.
Grurk is a Traitor to Justice who, when he gained the power of Immortality grabbed Lordship over Justice itself in order to destroy Justice.
Mjoth's religion of worshiping Motsognir may mirror Grurk's in alot of ways, but that just convinces him that Grurk is taking the Truth and twisting it.
As far as other gods go. If they are against what he sees as Justice, he hates them. If they aren't against or for, he will respect their power but rather considers them inconsequential.

15315, Mjothvitnir's Role Chapter 25
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 25 OOC clarification of that last one. Added Sun Apr 15 02:52:46 2007 at level 1:When Mjoth is own to grow, it would not be just in his mind to fight any creature or being with anything but his own Faith and strength, so that Justice may decide who deserves to live.
When someone breaks a just law, they have not only abandoned but ASSAULTED Justice.
Thus, it is just for all of the Guards of the Watch to fight together to heal justice.
This means that Tribbies can use guards. Tribbies can fight together in defense of the Spire.
Mjoth isn't sure how that affects offensive strikes against Spire enemies, so he will attempt to keep himself out of those situations.
(Meaning he probably won't take part in many raids on outlander where other tribbies are there)

RoleChapter 26 Solo ranking/other things religion wise. (yes, I am stupid enough to try) Added Sun Apr 15 02:51:58 2007 at level 1:**/ooc Yes, I am stupid enough to try. No I am not doing this for any ic benefit or attention. It just seems the role calls for it, and I've never done it, so why not give it a go? **/endooc
Many are the Teachings of Motsognir. And all of them hinge around Justice. But before he knew of Justice, he was among the most feared of Warriors (hence his name).
Many of his teachings, therefore, mirror his own growth from bloodthirsty warrior into dedicant of Justice, and follow his attempts to reconcile those two seemingly disparate parts of his personality.
Out of this struggle, evolved a philosophy of Combat and Justice, which hinges upon the basic idea that once combat is joined, the only Naturally Just outcome is that in which the Better Combatant wins.
This philosophy was tempered later in his life, however, when he would see those who's causes were Just would lose, leading to Justice itself becoming lessened in the World.
(The current day example would be a lawman killed by a mob of outlanders).
His Acknowledgement of this problem led him to his one and only crisis of his own internal faith. For he knew that the Ends do just justify the Means...but if some ends are not achieved...Justice itself will suffer.
The answer to that, came in the understanding of purpose and in every creature's right to choose for himself how he will act.
Those who will initiate fights against Justice, have abandoned Justice. And for Justice to be True Justice, Justice must then abandon them.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 27 Empowerment/religion and IC lifetime goals Added Sun Apr 15 02:49:26 2007 at level 1:Mjoth thinks of himself as a realist. He knows it will be hard, to nearly impossible to gain the Motsognir's Blessings upon the tasks he wishes to live his life attempting to accomplish.
Motsognir is quite Somnolent. It will take work and dedication to awaken him enough to get divine sanction for his quest, but who ever accused dwarves of not being stubborn never met Mjothvitnir.
Mjothv will consider his life a success if he but brings but one soul to the truth of Motsognir and the True Justice that Motsognir so loved. But he knows that even such a seemingly modest goal is monumental if measured in the amount of effort and dedication it will take to accomplish.
And so he has completely dedicated himself to spreading the word...as it were.

RoleChapter 28 Personal love and ancestor worship. Added Sun Apr 15 02:48:45 2007 at level 1:Since he was a child, the stories of his Family and Motsognir have come alive for Mjoth, because of the Dreams of Motsognir that bleed into his own.
Even as a toddler, he would tell his parents of his strange dreams, and they were not slow in understanding what was going on.
Because of this, they worked and instilled in him a great love and respect for his Ultimate Ancestor, and a hope that one day Motsognir would become strong enough to help bring true Justice to all who live in Thera.
He has also developed a rather personal goal, of which he has told none but his confessors during training in the Paladin guild. His hope that should he be able to bring Justice to be stronger in the World, then the Spirit of Motsognir would awaken enough to be able to finally tell his descendants what must be done to be free of the curse.

15301, Mjothvitnir's Role Chapter 11
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 11 Dream Two Added Mon May 7 11:53:29 2007 at level 27:This was a short dream that showed Mjoth in detail one of the stories he had heard of Motsognir in his youth.
Motsognir as king on his throne. The main force of warriors are off fighting some battle.
Most of what is left are squires and young warrior trainees.
And a Dragon comes, and wants to kill Nordiach.
The Dragon is powerful, evil, insane, and nearly indestructible.
So Motsognir tasks all of the young trainees with the destruction of the Dragon.
But the Royal armory has not yet finished designing, let alone making, weapons and armor that will be most effective in fighting this dragon.
A large portion of this group, waits for the armor and weapons to be ready, expecting their Lord to give them the strength and power to accomplish the task that has been handed to them.
A small handful, however, understood the Justice that Motsognir taught more clearly.
Motsognir was their King to whom they owed allegiance, and he had given to them a task.
It was their job, their duty, to find a way to accomplish this thing.
And so, they banded together, and came up with a plan to fight the Dragon.
For weeks, they struggled with the beast, most of them dyeing in the effort.
Finally, Motsognir and his royal armorers came out of the smithy and foundry with piles of armor and weapons specifically designed to fight the dragon, only to find most of the trainees outside waiting for them.
Immediately, Motsognir dismissed all of the trainees sitting there waiting, and ordered them out of his sight forever.
Then, he personally took the new armor and weapons to where the last three trainees still struggled with the Dragon. He leaped in to fight the Dragon single- handed to give the three time to put on the new armor.
They did so, and together Motsognir and the three trainees slew the Dragon once and for all.
The three trainees were made into Motsognir's champions.

RoleChapter 19 How he rationalizes evil in the Spire. Added Fri Apr 27 09:00:06 2007 at level 21:Some may question if a Paladin can really follow the code and still be in the Spire, given the evil that exists there.
This bothered Mjoth for some time, until he had what he believes to be a dream from Motsognir that addresses the situation.
If there is a village with hundreds of starving, dieing children, and a bastard Duergar shows up and actually starts FEEDING and saving the children, should Mjoth stop the Duergar from doing that? No.
Now, it is true, that Mjoth feels that once Justice has a stronger presence in Thera, those evil bastards will get what is coming to them, but until then...
Well, even a rabid dog can protect sheep from other rabid dogs, you just have to keep a close eye on him for any signs of his inevitable turning.
The best place to keep an eye on the evil of the Spire, is with a position of leadership within the Spire.
Which poses a little bit of a problem. Mjoth had not started out thinking of such grand thoughts. He just wanted to, and still wants to, just do his work, not rule over the Spire in any way like he has read some of the past leadership has.
But, he might have an easier time doing his job with one of the many different leadership roles of the Spire.
So he has decided, he's just going to do the best he can. If it would be Just for him to earn said spot, then he will earn it, otherwise he will not. Either way, Justice is served.

RoleChapter 18 Finally, some progress to report! Added Fri Apr 27 09:06:11 2007 at level 21:Normally, Mjoth likes to consider himself quite patient, as all those of the cursed blood have had to learn such over the long years.
But he was definitely feeling itchy to get started working by the time he finally caught up with the new Provost after looking for him for so long.
So now that he has proven to the Spire that he is worthy and started work, along with his growing understanding of how to use the abilities given to him, and how well his preaching and teaching other mortals of the Faith, he feels he has something positive to report to Motsognir, and will seek him out once again.

RoleChapter 17 Re-contacting Motsognir. Added Mon Apr 30 15:56:49 2007 at level 21:Two things happened in the last few days, that taught Mjoth a few things that he thought he already knew.
Both, taught him that he alone did not have the strength to stand against the forces of Injustice as they stood, and that it would be a false hubris to think otherwise.
He knows that he must be the Vessel for the strength of Motsognir, for only he has the strength of True Justice behind him, and none can stand before such strength.
This, combined with the fact that he is slightly proud enough to wish to share his early steps that he has taken in getting a spot as a Magistrate, has led him to desire yet more contact with Motsognir.
He remembers the feel of Motsognir, through the earth and stone in the deep Abysmal pit that he was called to before, and he yearns for such again.
However, while he still loves the feel of the stone in that deep, wind-riven pit, he no longer feels Motsognir's presence there.
Whether this is a fault within himself, or just the fact that Motsognir is slumbering a little deeper, Mjoth doesn't know. But, he hopes that by getting deeper into the Earth himself, he can succeed in contacting Motsognir once more.

While what I picked was role-appropriate I think. I certainly understand that it doesn't really fit within the acceptable lastnames framework.
I am not sweating it, though. Just wanted to make sure it was known that I wasn't trying to get such a long-winded lastname or special treatment or something.

RoleChapter 15 Dreams. Two that he can remember, at least. Added Mon May 7 11:42:49 2007 at level 27:Mjoth has felt the presence of Motsognir once more.
Deep in the Underdark, the very stones breathed and throbbed with the heartbeat of Motsognir, and Mjoth felt his own heart sync with and become one with the beat.
With this experience came a new fire within him to grow strong enough to do Motsognir's will, and he went out to preach and grow as fast as he could.
But, almost immediately, he began to have dreams.
He can remember clearly only two of them. And by the time the second one came, he had reached the extent of the new strength that had been given to him the during the experience in the underdark.
He has some ideas on what they mean, but he needs to be sure, so he will be seeking advice on them from those he considers wise.
He is of the opinion that these dreams are trying to show him something very important about what is keeping him from growing in faith as he has been trying to.

RoleChapter 14 Dream One. Added Mon May 7 11:44:48 2007 at level 27:This dream had no sound, but was very vivid in color.
There was an almost uncountable number of dwarves, standing in a single file line.
At the beginning of the line, was Motsognir as Mjoth had always pictured him.
The dwarf behind Motsognir pointed at Motsognir, and then said "Motsognir" to the dwarf behind him.
Only there was no sound, it came out like large writing in the air, in vivid and swirling colors of red and brown and silver. Colors of the earth in a living pattern.
From there, On and on, each dwarf would turn to the one behind him, and say "Motsognir". But each time the colors would change a little bit.
Finally, at the end of the line, Mjoth saw his Father turn to him and say "Motsognir.
The Name was still in the same colors of the earth and the colors still swirled in a living pattern, but it was obvious that the pattern was different from what it was in the beginning.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 13 Dream one interpretation? Added Mon May 7 11:48:12 2007 at level 27:Mjoth believes this dream means that he does not know the whole truth of Motsognir.
The name was the same in the dream, and also the colors, and the kind of pattern the colors made, which Mjoth takes to mean that the basic idea and story behind Motsognir are true.
But, the fact that the pattern itself was different in the specifics Mjoth takes to mean that perhaps there are things about Motsognir that he thinks of as true that are not?
What does this means for his faith?
Mjoth thinks the meaning goes deeper than just "Specifics of Motsognir's life might not be known after so long".
So far in Mjoth's life, he has been convinced that he knew the truth of what Motsognir wanted. Of what Motsognir's goals were, and why.
He has been using that belief as a compass to tell him how to act in every situation in everyday life.
But, with the dream, even if the Truth of Motsognir isn't different, maybe something about his message is slightly different?
The basic message Mjoth thinks he needs to take from this is to ask Motsognir for more direction and know he is getting it right, instead of relying on the stories he heard growing up and hoping he is getting it right.

RoleChapter 12 Dream one ooc Added Mon May 7 11:49:23 2007 at level 27:Mjothvitnir's religion of Motsognir is too nebulous.
Has a developed origin for the religion, but not enough "meat", for me.
Going to be working on that. This dream kindof gives a way for the religion to grow dynamically into something more substantial, instead of being based on "childhood stories" which are static and not well defined.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 10 Dream two interpretation? Added Mon May 7 11:54:37 2007 at level 27:Mjoth believes he was given to remember this story because of how he behaved the last time he was struggling to contact Motsognir.
While he did continue to preach about Motsognir and feed the poor as well as stand on duty for the law, Mjoth was ignoring one part of what Motsognir has tasked for him.
Part of Mjoth's task, is to grow stronger, so that he can be a more useful tool for Motsognir's reawakening. But Mjoth stopped trying to grow when he was trying to contact Motsognir.
He was being like the Trainees who were waiting for help from the King in order to do what the King had tasked for them.
He now knows that he needs to be more like the other squires, and go out to grow whenever he can.
Yes. He may turn out to be one of those trainees who went out and died to the Dragon.
But better to be one of those who dies trying to accomplish his given task, than one who never even tries to accomplish it because he is waiting for help.

RoleChapter 9 Justice vs Honor. Not the same thing. Added Thu May 10 20:13:07 2007 at level 31:Many times, people have made the mistake of thinking that Mjoth follows Honor because of how he chooses to fight alone.
So he has had quite a bit of time to pray and meditate on what the differences are.
Mjoth is convinced that "Honor" as it exists in Thera, isn't a True faith, like Justice is.
Mjoth believes that Honor has it's roots in a people who were searching for True Justice, but were unwilling to accept the uncomfortable consequences that come with True Justice when their lives were weighed and balanced according to Justice.
This led to them stopping short of full Justice. And what they came up with was called "Honor".
Now because Honor is easier to live with than Justice, Honor has become the well known philosophy today.
But, Mjoth thinks of Honor more as a personal code that tries to approximate Justice in ones own life.
Where Justice is more of a code that applies to all people at all times.

RoleChapter 8 Hard lesson, new ideas, spreading the faith. Added Fri May 11 15:55:55 2007 at level 32:Mjoth learned mainly from listening to stories and prayer.
Mjoth has always spread the word of Motsognir in a one on one way, preaching what he knew to be true to people willing to listen, at least, if not believe right off.
This did not prepare Mjoth, in any way, for what happened at the Inn of the Star.
He was in prayer to Motsognir, deep in the Earth, when he was struck with a sudden idea that exploded into his mind with such force, that he knows it was a gift from Motsognir.
Why not use the Heralds to publish to all people the news of Motsognir, instead of just speaking to each person one on one?
This way, those who show interest can approach Mjoth with some basic knowledge, and the discussion can be more on specifics.
So Mjoth approached Sokde of the Heralds with the idea of a series of scrolls. Which lead to an invitation to speak a little bit to Sokde on Motsognir at the Inn.
What Mjoth was not ready for, was the audience that showed up at Sokde's invitation. Many of whom were outright skeptical, or even openly hostile. Even a dark God showed up.
Mjoth probably could have answered well all of the questions posed, had he been given time, but they came fast, and many were posed in ways to try to trip up his philosophy.
And, he was trying very hard not to say things that would cause the Demon god to turn him into a lump of smouldering flesh.
Mjoth does not believe he did as well as he could have in that situation. But he is not deterred. It was a good forum to get the word out, in addition to the coming scrolls.
And, if he keeps at it, and with faith in Motsognir, he will find the right words.

RoleChapter 7 A third dream. Motsognir Speaks! Added Fri May 18 08:22:12 2007 at level 33:Mjoth is covered with a sense of awe and a basic feeling of thanks that Motsognir would speak with him, even in a Dream.
This dream started just as he fell asleep.
He was surrounded by warm, bare, primal stone in a dark cavern, and he could not move, or speak. But he could hear.
He heard the stones breathing with the rising heartbeat of the Stirring Motsognir.
Suddenly, Motsognir was before him, looking both stern and loving.
Arms crossed, both hands gripping tightly in a throbbing grip massive hammers of pure light, Motsognir leaned forward, down to Mjothvitnir, and spoke.
Nearly deafening was his voice. But it carried no pain to Mjoth's ears.
"I have prepared you for this insight, Servant. With the dream that showed you that you had me wrong in some respects."
"And I am finally waking enough to speak in your dreams, though not for long. Attend me well, and remember."
"It is not as you have been taught, with me and my Slumber."
"I have been awake many times in Thera's past. My strength is not tied to the Strength of Justice as you have thought."
"But, Because of my use of Justice to call down the Curse upon my Son, I am bound to be a servant of Justice, and it's champion."
"You, are to be one of my tools, in my service, should you prove yourself a worthy tool."
"I stir, not when Justice grows strong, or weak. I stir, when Justice is under attack, from which it needs my defense."
"And you know what assaults it in these times."
"Go. Continue to warn the Unjust of my Waking. And teach Thera of Justice. This I command."
And then Mjoth woke.
He is filled with a renewed determination. Justice itself is under attack, and he feels more than ever the drive to prove to Motsognir that he is worthy to be used in service to Justice.

RoleChapter 6 Dream 4: Campfire talk Added Tue May 29 09:46:58 2007 at level 40:** ooc, I tried to think what Motsognir's religion would look like, if it was more fleshed out like a real cf religion, which spheres he would have and the like. This is my ic attempt at something like that. **
Dream awareness starts slowly. Blackness, fading into a shifting red light that grows from the smallest speck to a roaring fire in front of him. He is sitting on a log inches from the flame, but fears no singe as there is no heat.
The trunks of massive trees crowd around. Rain starts. Heavy rain. Deluge. Silent, everything silent.
*SMACK* The first sound, So loud it is painful. The sound of massive hands slapping together with shattering force.
At the same exact instant, the falling waters part, as if shifted just far away to miss the fire and Mjoth sitting at the fire. And the Massive Dwarf sitting at the fire next to him, rubbing his hands in the non-heat of the fire.
Sound comes. Hear the thunder and see the lightning. Shock that in the lightning flashes the trunks of the trees are shown to be stone pillars in a natural cave, the ceiling far away and hidden behind the rain clouds.
STAY SILENT WHILE I INSTRUCT! The dwarf next to him commands before a wry smile splits his face. The dwarf removes a crown from his head and tosses it into the fire.
A massive hand engulfs Mjoth's shoulder in a gesture of friendship, and words come to him almost as if spoken, though the dwarf does not speak, just looks into the fire with sadness and determination written large across his features.
Too long did I serve as King. I still tend to command when other approaches are more appropriate.
You grow stronger, but so do the forces allied against Justice, myself, you, and your chosen companions. With your new strength, you will be tested even more strenuously. perhaps beyond your limits. I tell you this, so you will not expect your growing strength to make life easier on you.
That realization has destroyed many who would have helped me in the past.
It is also time for you to have a deeper understanding.
No. Not Justice. I have given you my teachings on Justice.
But, I caution you. True Justice in itself is not this Mortal Law you have chosen.
Oh, I understand, you see a way that this Mortal Law can be a tool for True Justice, and I agree that it oftentimes can be so. But many have grown to the belief that they are the same, to their destruction.
Be mindful of the deeper lesson in what I have just said. No. I can tell that you missed it entirely. I will enlighten. Which is the second lesson you must learn.
I told you that your choice to use Mortal Law as a tool is a viable one.
Your CHOICE!
Everyone has a choice. But not all choices are equal.
Yes. True Justice is what I serve. And it is what all who would be useful to me in my service to Justice must hold sacred.
But. You are Mortals. You can not know natively everything about Justice, or how best to serve it. Or even what is most Just in every situation.
This requires choice. And Judgment. Yes. Judgment. You must take what you know, and what you have been taught, and reach a decision. You will be responsible for this decision, but right or wrong, it is YOUR decision. And it is your duty to make good decisions as often as possible.
For this,

Wed May 2 11:21:01 2007 by 'Ysaloerye' at level 21 (42 hrs): I would prefer he prayed on a more constant basis, and not just when he needed some more Motso-juice. Empowered to 26, lets see if he gets any better.

Fri May 18 19:20:11 2007 by 'An Immortal' at level 33 (91 hrs): An Immortal added 500 exp for: For having to put up with Azerdek being a retard and spamming him with increasingly nonsensical and retarded things after Mjoth solo-killed him.

Mon Jun 4 16:56:03 2007 by 'Twist' at level 47 (176 hrs): role contest entrant - but he just won the previous role contest and doesn't have a ton of great new content (good role overall, though). I hate that I read 20 entries before realizing the above.

15291, Mjothvitnir's Role Chapter 1
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 1 A story about paying for accidents. Added Tue Jun 5 16:06:52 2007 at level 47:Four times now, Criminals have escaped the Law. While they might have escaped anyway, there is no doubt in Mjoth's mind that they had a better time of it because of his keeping himself near naked to repay his mistake.
Then, There was the point where he almost was unable to retrieve the Scales.
Then, Falling to Aomiern in his own city.
This was especially hard on him, because it was right in front of the Lady Ysaloerye, even though he isn't proud as far as dwarfs go, this was a hit.
While sitting in the underdark, surrounded by the Stone, he was all of a sudden reminded of a very short story from Motsognir's reign as king.
******
There was an aging captain, in charge of training young troops. Infact, he was by far the best trainer in those days, which was shortly after the whole Dragon thing, which also meant that he was the only trainer available for young squires and such.
A young trainee thought he knew more than he did. And he had Thekk's own twisted soul. He had challenged the captain, and was rightly humiliated, and this rankled him.
That night, the Thekk-spawn young dwarf tried to kill the captain, and in the resulting fracas, one of the other young trainees who came running to the captain's aid died.
The captain blamed himself, and retired right off, believing himself no longer worthy.
This right pissed Motsognir off.
Motsognir called the captain to him. And yelled at him for an hour before he finally got to the point.
Yes. The death of the trainee was the captain's fault. But the captain had a duty to perform.
Yes. The captain had to pay for his part in the trainee's death. but the the captain's punishment was not retirement. He was needed too much.
His punishment was to continue training the young, even though he knew he was not completely worthy. Even though he did not wish to. He had to continue.
(ooc, idea from BSG, chief Tirrol and Adama...etc.)
Finally, Mjoth knew what he had to do.
He would never feel as if he had payed enough for the death of the innocent in the accident on the docks.
But, his trying to atone was leading him to ignore his duties to the Spire.
And this can not be allowed to continue.

Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 2 Dragons! Added Mon Jun 4 15:10:54 2007 at level 47:Twice now, he has shared the story of Motsognir's days as a King and the Dragon and squires. (Role Subject Dream 2)
Once to Teleon, and once to Arhtraknar. Both in similar situations with their Gods and not yet having received their God's blessings.
The telling of the story seems to have helped the young paladins a bit.
But more than that. With each telling his internal juices have flowed a bit hotter for Dragon blood. So he has decided to hunt dragons down around Thera when other duties do not press, in memory of his Lord and his faithful squires.
And to give honor to the memory to those long dead squires who died fighting that dragon so long ago.
One thing he did not count on, however was the amount of coin these dragons were sitting on.
Mjoth has been fairly poor most of his life, and being rich doesn't sit right with him.
So he will be going out of his way to find young paladins, preferably, or other lightwalkers to dump the gold on.

RoleChapter 3 Death. Time. Mortality. Added Mon Jun 4 11:23:58 2007 at level 47:Eoal dropped dead. Time got him. Right in the Spire.
Mjothvitnir was awake when this happened, and was able to witness Eoal's ghost in it's last moments in Thera, as well as look upon the peaceful form of Eoal's final body at the Altar of the Spire.
A fitting place to leave the Provincial's last remains. But seeing this did something to Mjothvitnir.
What exactly it was, Mjoth isn't sure. But seeing the hard evidence of mortality struck him hard.
Not exactly in a negative way. But maybe not in a positive way either. He has been forced to look over his life so far, as he is no longer a young dwarf himself.
Looking back, he has confirmed with himself that he has made the right choices, mostly. But he is having a hard time escaping the questions:
"Could I have done more?"
And:
"Could I be doing more?"

RoleChapter 4 (ooc) penance for the setback. Added Sun Jun 3 08:07:58 2007 at level 47:How long is Mjoth going to serve penance?
To be honest. Not a clue.
Maybe for a week or so? maybe longer? a few days?
Maybe until he dies in a raid defense or retrieval.
Or, on the other hand, maybe until he does really well at retrieving against odds or repelling a big raid in defense.
Going to play it by ear. To be honest, I don't want him to do it too long, because he isn't going to get those last 4 lvls wearing only spire-sold eq, heh.
But I don't think Mjoth would want it to be just token either.

15295, Mjothvitnir's Role Chapter 5
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 5 Setback. Added Sun Jun 3 07:34:58 2007 at level 47:Mjoth had been not too recently transferred to Hamsah when he got tired of all of the darkness lurking on the chaotic docks just east of the city.
The long and short of his setback is this:
He was finally clearing out the evil from the docks, when a young paladin walked by him quickly on his way to kill darkness in Arkham.
Mjoth's sword arm was jostled, and his sword went through the chest of a Lightwalking deckhand.
(ooc, k 4. when someone walked in. Oops)
Right away, Mjoth knew the magnitude of his error.
He stripped and sacrificed all of his holy weapons that he no longer felt he could wield, as well as anything priestly that he wore.
He took some time to meditate, and this was not enough. Justice isn't always Comfortable. Yes, it was an accident. But that's the only thing that he feels is saving his soul right now.
Mjoth needs to atone. He needs to strip bare of all trappings and concentrate just on his job of helping Justice.
There is one thing he will not strip. He came to the point of sacrificing this, too, to Motsognir. There is a ring he was given for his part in bringing a murderer to Justice. Mjoth will hold onto this ring as a symbol of what he must get back to.
Other than that, he will work with just the trappings of the Spire from Sernikloth for now, focusing on his duty to the Law and Justice and his Lord until either he feels that he has atoned, or until Motsognir himself absolves him and sais that he has atoned enough.
