Raagba the Champion of Arms

Description

Short by the standards of fire giants, this towering creature still looms
impressively as his strength is shown in excess by the size and shape of his
muscles. His skin is so dark it almost looks to be burnt black and small
cracks can be seen if one were to be lucky or unlucky enough to get close
enough. His large hands hold his weapons with a semblance of familiarity. His
eyes are almost always narrowed in a blazing concentration, the deep red
almost seeming to dance with an inner fire. His nose appears small in
comparison to his features and seems to have been broken many a time. His
long ragged red hair is pushed back behind his ears, sticks and leaves appear
to have been caught in his hair by whatever actions he fills his time with.

Chapter 1

Trial by blood part 2

A beautiful yellow finch ruffled its feathers and began to groom itself as it
stood calmly upon the edge of a stone house. Light trills filled the air as
it continued to sing its song of content and joy, it had been sometime since
it could sit here unbothered by any of the thick creatures that lived in
these houses. Just then it stopped its song, and all movement, its eyes
swiveling to watch the smoke bellow forth from the large mouth of the great
rock that reached into the very sky itself. Yellow flashed as it flapped once
to float down infront of the stone house it had been sitting upon, its head
swiveling to stare down the depths of the mouth. Maybe the mountain was sick
and this was its way of getting better, after all, the finch had not seen the
mountain eat or spit up any thick shiny men in quite some time. It hopped a
little closer and then froze, a small circle of brilliantly bright yellow in
the middle of a gray stone path. Almost as if it were coughing, the mountain
spit forth a huge dark red thing. The finch was startled into a motionless
panic, it knew it was done, it knew it should be flying as fast is it could
to just stay out of reach, watching, and yet it was already within reach of
this mountain spit creature and the finch wasnt moving. Heart beating
faster then the soundless beat of life and death the finch watched the
gigantic red thing move as if it would smash the world. The finch watched it
stumble, one of its featherless wings clutched so weirdly at its side, red
shiny stuff running down its face and all of its skin making it even more
terrifying. Just then as the finch knew it was no more, as the massive foot
began to fall onto the finch the big read thing fell to the side. Its eyes
fell to meet the finches, big red things.. so much red, and then it flashed a
wide brilliantly white grin straight at the finch. And just like that the
thing moved on, the finch looked back to see the mountain still sickly
coughing blackness and then it decided it was lucky. Fluttering back up to
the stone ledge it began to trill once more about the joy of its continued
life as it watched the big red thing slink off into the trees of the
mountain.

Chapter 2

Trial by blood part 1

Raagba grunted with obvious exhaustion as his hammer fell into the final
thick skull of the last dwarf. Almost simultaneously with the fall of this
new corpse, Raag lets his body sink heavily to the dirt floor of the warrens.
He lays his sweat soaked head against the cold stone wall of this place, at
least he has that small comfort. Though he also has the comfort of knowing
that he has passed this self given trial, if only just barely. Time passes,
the blood pools, and the only noises that could be heard here is the heavy
slow breathing of an exhausted giant. The thick sticky blood pooling to reach
his hand finally rises the giant from his reverie, slowly he gets to his
feet, cursing roughly as his head strikes the low chiseled ceiling yet
another time. Turning he steps easily over the round headless corpse of his
latest kill, and then the four other bodies of the warren servants as he
strides towards the door. Just then, Raagba turns a cavern corner and is
greeted by the blazing dancing lights of a multitude of torches. He must have
caught them as off guard as they had caught him, but he recovered faster.
Fast enough to brilliantly hurl the full barrel of water he had been just
then drinking from at them and then turning to sprint back down the corridor,
deeper into the mountain. Raag smiled grimly at himself as the torches lights
winked out because of his sudden assault then grunted in pain as his head
broke a thin stalactite these cursed bastards had left untouched. He could
not be mad long though as the chase continued, for the stalactite merely
meant they were loosing their touch in defiling the mother. Just as he begun
to put distance between himself and the footsteps of his pursuers Raagba
cursed his own foolishness as he slowed to a stop, where the tunnel ended so
very abruptly, tools laying about haphazardly. He should have realized where
he was running too, no wonder the blasted dwarves didnt chase as quickly
as he thought they should. Almost unflinchingly Raag turned, clutching his
hammers tightly, but it was not bravery or courage so much as his realization
that this was his last stand. Raag would stand and curse the dwarves for
their atrocities against the mother, he would sing if he knew how, but no,
hammers and blood is what he knew best and it is what they would get. Raag
decided that he would not die alone this day, not even close.

Chapter 3

A lesson of survival
Added Mon May 21 22:53:55 2007 at level 1:

Slow of wit and hand hard as the rocks of the very land, Raagba thought to
himself one more time as he stepped past another boulder. His eighth birthday
had long come and gone by his reckoning and he was none too pleased at not
getting himself a present for it. As he finished his little chant yet another
time he slowed his march to the sight of rising flames. Hunching his small 6
foot frame down he crunchingly snuck around a large outcropping of rock to
gain a vantage of the land below. Three thin tendrils rose twistingly, pushed
lightly by the slight western wind coming off of the ocean. As he squinted
into the dusk of the sinking western sun Raagba thought that perhaps the time
had come to reward himself with a birthday present.

There was no moon and the deep darkness of a moonless eve had fallen by the
time he finally was close enough to truly catch a glance at what the three
flames showed in the night. A gathering of sorts was at hand and as he
watched a nearly crippled old human limp back and forth in front of the
flames, stabbing his walking staff into the dirt as his voice took on a
fervent pitch. Raagba was held in awe at the violence this human could create
with his voice, how he made those watching him intently fall into the same
crazed state of bloodlust. Just as Raagba had finally finished arguing with
himself and decided rather certainly that he would come forward and make
these humans raise him a variety of cries sprang out into the night. Howls of
wolves lead the way for screams of pain and surprise, metal on metal and wood
splintering, strange snapping noises and sudden vibrations in the ground. The
chiming, it drove him into near insanity, he jumped up, slamming his head
into a low branch of the tree he had been hiding behind and ran forward
rather clumsily. By the time he had stumbled into the village, rather winded,
the wolves had finished dragging the last of the corpses into the darkness
behind and only a single figure still remained.
Why?
Why what, big child?
Why kill? For present?
Ah, child child child, these humans could not live. The were beginning to
become organized
Wha?
Wha what, child?
Wha org-ized?
Ah, young one, they would have destroyed the beauty of this place in time, to
put it simply.
Raag get. Raise Raag?
I am no pack mother, child, raise yourself.
But Raag want come with
Where we walk, you would not survive, child, find us again, when the time is
right.

Chapter 4

Birth

Smoke and fire, life and death. Kicking and screaming his way into life as
the old beast bled and convulsed her way into death. A single cough and then
silence as the babe curiously looked about. The sharp striking of hammer on
heated metal startled the child and his eyes widened substantially. The
almost musical chiming continued, the first real sounds this child would
register in its new life, the chiming of war preparations.
