Description

Before you stands a tall and lanky wood-elf. His emerald eyes twinkle with
joy and mischief as he looks around himself. His mouth is drawn up in a
smile. His skin is drawn tightly to his cheekbones, as he is rather thin.
He wears his clothing slightly baggy to hide his frailer figure. Though his
body is skinny his muscle ripple with strength. His hair is fairly long, but
pulled into a tight knot at the back of his neck. His breath smells of
alcohol, but yet he maintains a graceful gait.

Chapter 1

Martanis' Beginning

Martanis was born to his proud parents in the wood-elven city of Evermoon.
His Father was a tanner and his mother a barmaid. While he was young and
running about the wooded areas of the city he became fond of the songs of the
birds. Even as a very young lad he would catch on to the tune the bird was
making and mimic it perfectly. He also spent many a night in the back of the
mushroom tavern listening to the bards and singing along with the songs. It
didnt matter if they were lewd or funny, he liked to sing them all. As he
began to get a bit older and could be on his own he spent many days with the
bards, and learning about their guild and passions. No stranger to alcohol,
it didnt take long for the bards he hung with him to show him the joys of
the drink.

One night he left the guild slightly intoxicated and stumbled into his father
on the twisting streets of Evermoon. It is safe to say that he was unable to
sit without pain for over a week from the beating he received. His father
didnt care much that he hadnt paid for the drink, but that his mother
would allow him to become enthralled with people who would influence him so.
He was a man of great pride, and in his eyes, his wife had taken what little
pride he had from him. He beat her within an inch of her life. A sense of
true anger began to find itself welling up within Martanis.

Some weeks later Martanis mother came home with a small package for him.
She bade him to speak no word of this to his father. Inside the bundle was
wrapped a small drum that he could practice singing with. She showed him a
place to hide it and asked him never to use it around his father. She valued
his talents, and his father saw only a waste of money, of which they had
little.

A few months pass and Martanis is coming along well in his performing
ability. Even the bard guild is impressed with his natural talent and
sending food home with him. He is even asked to perform from time to time
for the Princess of Evermoon. For his cute songs and performance she gives
him a piece of jewelry for his mother. He takes it home and gives it to her,
beaming with pride. She takes it from him with a joyous smile and tries it
on, but frowns as she looks at herself in their battered tin mirror. He asks
what is wrong and she begins to cry. He gets upset because he thinks she
doesnt like it, but she tells him that isnt the case at all. She just
says that she cant wear it because his father wouldnt like how or why
she had it. As she is removing the necklace her father bursts through the
door. He had come home early to surprise them and tell them about the coat
he was bid to make for the Prince. Joy is quickly replaced by rage as his
father sees only the cost of the necklace and asks no questions. He moves
with hate in his eyes toward Martanis mother, but he quickly gets in the
way. He begins to tell him that she didnt buy it but that he did, but
before he could finish his fathers hand clasps him upside the head,
sending Martanis crumpling to the ground.

When Martanis comes to his father is holding his mothers head in his lap
and crying. He had never seen his Father cry, but the look of grief on his
face was evident. The pool of blood beside her was also telling, but he was
still not thinking clearly. He
