Ayik the Silent Blade of Reason

Description

A seven foot tall birdlike being glances casually
around him, searching for something or someone. Wiry muscles
peek in and out where feathers do not hide the flesh
underneath. Coated in black feathers from head to toe, this
creature would be well to hide in the shadows of night. Quick
blinking eyes show little of emotion and even less
colour then his feathers. His beak is small, ending a few
inches from his face. Razor sharp talons extends on his
feet, cutting the ground underneath him. Small wings,
an oddity for his race, are tucked neatly behind
him - as if he is ashamed or wanting to hide them. Around
his torso is a belt equipped with weapons of all assortments
and kinds. A strap extends around his torso and his right
shoulder, displaying a black staff on his back. He clenches
his hands idly, making you wonder what his next move will be.

Spoke to me about his emotional and logical state of being. Great for convesation and solid with communication. Would be nice to see how he follows it up with action.

Wed Apr 28 23:07:11 2004 by 'Phaelim' at level 46 (199 hrs):
I really like this guy's RP all around. My only gripe (because I always have one) is he's CN, but doesn't really act in any way chaotic. See if the task I gave him helps with that.

Fri Apr 30 23:51:08 2004 by 'Phaelim' at level 46 (205 hrs):
After going through with the task, reassessed his chaotic tendencies (or lack of). Changed his ethos to neutral to mirror his RP.

Wed May 5 00:10:19 2004 by 'Phaelim' at level 51 (223 hrs):
Some damn freakin good RP in my shrine while unlocking his past, rewarded him with a little something for it.

Ayik's clouded past, pt III
Added Sun May 9 21:29:14 2004 at level 51:

Chapter 2, The Shadow Stalker.

The night seemed to last longer as the gossip and rumour of the "Shadow Stalker"
rang across the city. Women were to be inside at sun down. Children were to only be allowed out
within the sight of their parents or a supervisor. Curfew was enforced brutally. Any who disputed
the curfew was thrown in to jail for the night, showing all who took this threat lightly otherwise. Though
the "Shadow Stalker" (as the populace named him/her) never struck the general populace, the fear that
it created was well known. Businesses had new hours. Security officers were doubled on the streets
and soldiers patrolled the streets in the evening. The moon seemed to darken, the days short and the
nights lengthen when the Shadow Stalker was loose. Many copycats followed, some even braving the
daylight in the hopes of increased fame (many of them being followers of the arial god of chaos,
Pico, they always attempted to bring attention to their cause). Though the Shadow Stalker rarely struck,
when he did, the city froze still. Trade dropped. Entire guilds were outcasted and destroyed at a mere
accusation that they collaberated with the Stalker. The mayor was voted out as his lack
(or the populace's general opinon, lack of) attention to the Stalker. Some even attempted to put
the entire blame on him for the murders. All in all, the god of Chaos must have laughed, as chaos
reigned the city when the Stalker struck.

One evening in the labratory, the mage attempted to awaken Ayik from his sleep. As he did
so, he cast yet another spell of persuasion around the young arial's mind. This spell was to
get him to attempt to finally finish something that should have been done some time ago. To kill the
head of the house, to allow the mage control of the guild and the eventual domination of the city. As
Ayik awoke, the mage began to whisper to himself about the gathering that he was to attend to. Misunderstanding
the comments as instructions, Ayik set out. He was to find the man wearing the purple robe with gold trims.
He was to kill this man without leaving any evidence behind. Ayik silently leaped out the window
as the mage turned around. The mage, not knowing Ayik awoke to misunderstand the instructions, simply
chuckled to himself in delight. He certainly was proud of his new killer. His Shadow Stalker.
Ayik returned to the guild mansion with the equipment he needed. The butlers did not even notice
him as he silently stalked past the halls and entered the ballroom, immediately noticing no shadows
to hide in. Rather then leap out, he attempted to asses the situation and ponder how he would finish
it. Noticing a sack of potatoes on his left, he simply put it on and walked in to the ballroom. At first,
many regarded him with interest and disdain at his costume. However, as he blankly stared back at them
they began to believe his costume was a joke. The general onlookers would then laugh and continue speaking
to each other. As Ayik was peering about himself, he found the man in the purple robe standing beside
the food table. Instantly, Ayik's attention was focused. He could smell every smell on the person. He could
see the waves of energy emitting from his body and even begin to see the slow motion of his actions, as
if Ayik was able to predict what his

Training began. At first, it was labratory rats that the mage brought home from the streets. Ayik
was to kill them without spilling a drop of blood. His first try was a complete and utter mistake, leaving
the labratory a undesirable mess of blood and gore. As he continued his attempts, he began to
spill less and less blood and kill the rats faster. The mage began to feel pride in himself and decided
it was time to step up his training. He began to bring home small animals. Dogs and slave cats
to attempt the same thing. Ayik found he was able to circle a dog and kill it from behind, where was
a cat was to be dropped on from above. Ayik slowly began to understand the rudimentries of life, death
and concealment (the importance of). He slowly began to kill more efficiently. The mage was now
almost bursting with pride. He finally had the one thing he could not find. He had his killer.
As Ayik matured in to his teens, the mage set him out to kill the magi of the opposite house. Entire
Houses were then bought out and overthrown, as the mage was almost always the brains of the operation. What
was odd about the murders was the fact that there was little to no evidence of the killing. No matter
the circumstances of a magi's death, the corpse would be found and no trace would be seen of the killer. The
Houses released names and the law was put down, though none were ever found. The general populace began
to believe that this murderer would come for them. They labelled him the Shadow Stalker, as he was
as silent and as unnoticed as the shadows of the labratory's walls.

Chapter 1 - Slave Labour.
Four unnamed orphans crowded the stall, as the slave master hawked
his wares across the town. Though selling children in to service was frowned upon,
no one really cared about what the religious or the liberal had to say. Children in service
were a delicacy for the richer houses of the city. Many found them cute, some even
eventually claiming them as their own children. Those who held the slaves cared little for how
they were found. Some spoke of whole professions dedicated to those who would steal the children
out of their caverns. The Stalkers, they called them. Though living a life of a Stalker was also
frowned upon, not many arial's lived a life of prosperity. They had to eat somehow.

The four orphans were quickly snatched up. Each was taken by a different House of the city, taken
for purposes of labour. Arial children did not have the ability to argue or be stubborn, for whatever reason.
Something that was highly prized in the orphans and the slave labour they produced. Though
there was a young orphan who did not speak, he certainly looked up for a job. A tall arial, shrouded
in a black cloak with silvery runes gleaming off his staff approached the slave driver and bought
the silent orphan as quick as possible. As the mage quickly grabbed the orphan's talons and hoisted him
over his shoulder, the slave driver watched the mage depart. Though the slave driver is supposed to
be hard, strong, against the will's of love and compassion.. he could not help but frown at his own doing.
For he sold an orphan to a mage. The mage of the strongest house in the city. That very day, the slave
driver killed himself - ashamed of his own doing and not willing to live with his punishment. Whomever
was to punish him in the afterlife, however, would certainly do so without remorse. Something he, perhaps,
should have related to. The mage tossed the orphan down into the basement and closed the door behind him, leaving
him in darkness that had no feeling. The cold void of the cell. Darkness. As the mage closed the door, he
quickly spoke words of magic and locked it tightly. The orphan, as tricky of a thief he was, would not
be able to escape from there. The mage, content with himself, went upstairs to his labratory to continue
his newest invention. Though the orphan's involvement was easy to notice, the mage decided to keep the orphan
out of it until the very last part was complete. He was the final key.

The days passed, with the orphan feeding off grain that was thrown in to the cell. Water dripping from
stagalamites above provided his liquid nourishment, as the mage would sometimes simply forget about him. He
was too busy preparing a spell for his House's domination of the economy, to worry about some stupid kid.
The orphan cried for many nights, screaming and wailing in a loud piercing tone that awoke neighbours from houses
far off. The orphan even awoke the deep sleeping mage, once. It was to be the last time he would do so. The
mage, being completely enfuriated at the orphan for waking him, cast a quick spell of persuasion that would silence
the orphan permanently. Not knowing the full power of the spell, he spoke the words of command. "You will
never know emotion. You will never cry again. Feeling is as foreign to you as your parents are. You

Ayik's teacher
Added Wed Apr 28 17:35:09 2004 at level 46:

Through Ayik's observations, his gaze passed upon a young lawful
mage named Mulshinay. Though the mage was completely illogical (some would say dumb)
Ayik listened with intent when the mage would speak. Though this was common, as
many prey would give very important hints on themselves through communication, Mulshinay
spoke of something he called the Fount. After hearing about this 'Phaelim's teachings, Ayik
decided to wander about some, looking for him. Unsuccessful in his hunt, he began to concentrate
more at the war at hand. Having recently joined the Village, he had little time to wonder about
this odd magi's habit. Almost by happenstance one day, as Ayik was hunting a mage
up the Khalid river, he found himself in front of a sailor. This sailor, by all means looking
lost, did not seem to be completely 'there' with the world.. as if he had another reason for
planting himself at the headwaters of the river. Upon Ayik's arrival, the sailor examined him
and spoke that Ayik has a kindred mind. Immediately, Ayik was interested. None have ever attempted
to read the Shadowstalker's mind, let alone discern what thoughts come from it. The sailor told
him that he should but speak words, and his problems would be assisted with. Ayik decided it to be
the logical action, as there seemed to be no danger at hand (as well as losing the magi's tracks). Almost
immediately upon speaking the words Ayik's body was transported to an odd spectacle. Only being able
to describe the location as an anomaly. Devoid of colour and interest, this 'void' seemed to be a place
of extreme meditation and thought. Just as Ayik began to discern the surroundings around him, Phaelim
did the same to Ayik. Ayik's gaze rested upon Phaelim. Phaelim arched his eyebrows at Ayik, not truely
showing his intentions or thoughts towards Ayik. The Shadowstalker was immediately impressed with this,
as many years of observing a variety of creatures has assisted Ayik with determining the prey's thoughts
and/or next moves. Ayik could simply not see through Phaelim.

They began to speak, attempting to figure each other out. Phaelim, most likely wondering why this
odd bird happened upon his Fount. Ayik, wondering how a god would represent him so well. It has been
too many years, too many days, since the Shadowstalker could call one Teacher... Not showing this, though,
Ayik replied to Phaelim's questions with observations on the mage he encountered earlier. Through this
ploy, Ayik would attempt to figure if Phaelim would be very close to his followers, or get insulted
(as some gods are known to do) when their followers are mocked or belittled. Phaelim did niether, merely
nodding his head occasionally. The Shadowstalker began to assume that Phaelim knew exactly what he was
attempting to do and surprisingly, began to tell things about himself. This was usually the last weapon
in Ayik's arsenal of communication. Many things find comfort in knowing about who they are speaking to. After
comfort is achieved, everything about the prey follows afterwards. Even after Ayik spoke of his dilemma
involving his emotions, Phaelim merely stated that it was quite an engima but it was truely up to Ayik to
figure it out. Ayik's plans, his constructs and traps involving communication and observation all failed
against this 'Phaelim'. Ayi

Ayik's thoughts, reasonings and eventual actions
Added Sat Apr 17 01:01:32 2004 at level 44:

Ayik's thoughts are usually in a collaberated order. If he is to encounter a problem,
he prioritizes it and calls forth information from his previous observations. If he is
currently stalking and observing a mage, he will store the information for later use. He has
found that even in a casual observation, magi will give much about themselves away. Later, this
is used in the discerning, mimicing and eventual slaying of his target. He has a set order of things
in his head. These things are cast alongside rules that are given to him by his master, teacher
or organization (the Village). As he calls forth the information, he checks the references
for discrepencies with the rules. If a rule is to be broken, he quickly thinks of a logical
solution. For example, if he is not allowed to gang when he is fighting only one enemy, he will wait
until the enemy has run away (if he has), then he will finish the kill. Though this technically
breaks a parity rule of the Village, it has only technically broke it. Though technicalities
are tended for the sly and mischevious, he finds that they are useful when dealing a logical
solution to an irrational problem (the example above). So long as the task is completed with the minimal
amount of rules broken, the task is done and Ayik can move on. If a discrepency
was to be brought up later concerning a past event, he stores the information in his head
and updates the rules as to make sure a mistake does not happen again. If
Ayik makes mistakes, he does not look upon them with regret. He believes
that though he lacks emotion, he does not lack thought. This noted, one
who does not have 100% information cannot make a truely 100% correct choice.
Any other discrepencies based on Ayik's thoughts are handled on a per-event
basis, using Ayik's observations and ability to almost completely memorize subjects
to call forth a logical solution.

Ayik's personality traits
Added Sat Apr 17 00:50:58 2004 at level 44:

Ayik is devoid of emotion. Throughout his life he has come
to accept this handicap, though one day he wishes to change it. His
participation in Village politics has made him stand out amongst
the Village. However his inability to comprehend other's emotions and feelings
has given him a shortfall in my debates and conversations. He finds
things such as honor, pride and hatred crude and irrational. He
finds that people who obey their emotions without consulting their
logical thoughts first, tend to make mistakes. He has observed many who, once
made these mistakes, found themselves either dead or dying. Out of all
those he has observed, he finds mages hold the least logic in their actions. This
is almost contradictory to how magi are portrayed in society. He has observed magi
who would go out of their way in the persuit of power. This notion of power is
obviously illogical, as power tends to breed greed. Ayik is confused and even
befuddled by empathy towards other's and other's actions. He cannot grasp a concept
if it is illogical (it is simply beyond him). Every time Ayik goes against
his natural inclinations towards logic, he finds himself right back at the same problem. No one
other then Jinroh, has ever proved to be able to both control their emotions and tap into their
logical thoughts. Though Ayik is devoid of one, he finds that he may be complete if he is
able to bring them both together.

Ayik has experienced many things during his life already, even though
he is still young by human standards (30 years at this meditation). He has found
that he sometimes wishes he had emotion to be able to better express himself. He has spoken
about this to his teacher, Phaelim. Phaelim's advice was that Ayik should look deeply into
himself to be able to better understand why he has this emotion handicap, thus, hopefully
being able to conquer it. Another very important observation by Ayik is other's response
to the notion of Ayik's handicap. Most simply cannot believe it. Others find it intimidating
and oppressive, quickly relieving themselves of Ayik's presence. A few, Phaelim included, see
a good in this handicap. As Ayik's teacher as said, one who can control his emotions is in control
of himself. When this is completed, many wonderous things are possible. Ayik finds this interesting
in a logical point of view, as he would be able to decipher more solutions quickly and more
effciently. Ayik tends to keep to himself rather then immerse himself in a conflict
or a problem (though the war at hand is an exception to this). He finds that if he is able
to observe both sides of a story and read all the facts, he will always come up on top
of the situation. Another point to the matter is Ayik's voice. Thougha minor issue, many
find his voice intimidating and commanding, even oppressive (though Ayik does not attempt to
put himself out as these). The lack of inflection in his voice, coupled with the lack of
emotion as well as a equal tempo of conversing makes MANY nervous when speaking to him. Some have
even been insulted by the way he speaks. If a normal person was to say:

"Hello, can I help you?"
Ayik would say:
"Can I help you."
Though his way of communication is direct to the point, many races have developed long
and extensive ways of greeting and speaking
