Chapter 18

With comfort gains greater understanding of self.

As I lay awake in my hut, I ponder over my battles of late and how to
truly understand through the eyes of my enemies and my own.
A cold wave rushes through the room, my curtain moves abruptly to which
I turn like a cheetah, reacting in preparation to strike.
Over by the door I see no attacker, but a hazy cloud surrounding what was
my own grandfather.

Unsure as to whether awake or not, I bled myself upon the tip of my spear.
Unwaking from the sharp piece of the blade, I turn and say.

"Grandfather, is it truly you? Why have you come?"

My grandfather stood before me, Staring at me with cold calculating eyes.
He says with pleasant tone in his voice, "I see you have found the way,
and rather well onto that path indeed."

Sternly he overlooks me, "You have found the way on your own, despite
everything which has stood in your way, and holding pride to your brothers
above all."

I solemnly nod at his words.

"You have even taken a name of battle for yourself."

With precision, I answer his statement, "My brothers call me 'Stef'."

A smile to his face, "So fitting it is daughter, quick to utter as you
bring glorious tactical victory to your foes."

With a pleasant expression, "I am glad my actions appear in favor in your
eyes grandfather, but why have you chosen to come?"

His eyes looking over my every being, analzying with great intent my every
fibre of being, as he looks me from top to toe, with cold precision, he says.

"The time is certainly well overdue that you understand who you've truly become."

"But I know who I am grandfather, I have been well on my path for some time..
I am a tactician as you were, and use my abilitys to fight against the taint."

My grandfather holding back, "You know certainly well you are far more than
that, as you have exhibited time and time again, I have been watching you."

"My dear daughter, you may be a young girl, and a sister, but you have stood by
your brothers through all things. You do not let the direness of any situate'
take away your spirit, your heart is always strong. You fight your battles
with cold anayltical and tactical precision, but you take no strife against
your kin of the village. You have 'ttained the status which any of my own
warriors would have given up their hoarde for,.. You are a brother among men."

Astonished, I listen further to my grandfathers words.

"You are a brother, upholding your oath above all. You've stood against
adverse situations; and then adapted. When the sticks were down, you turned
them around to raise in your favor. When one of your senses fails you, the
rest of them heighten to ensure the safety of all of your kin."

"You may have thought in your mind all this time you were just a villager,
following out the orders and living by your oath, but you've shown well that
it is far more than that. You are a brother among men, with the grace that
only a woman can truly guide to extend unto all things."

Resting down upon the mat on the floor, "I see grandfather, I certainly do
see things in different light, as this all floods into my mind, I certainly
feel more alive, I truly have a greater understanding of entire life."

With clouds slowly fading, my grandfather stares at me once more.
"I'll be watching you da

Chapter 19

Reassurance and understanding of self.

As I had once felt a wavering in my faith, which seemed to keep me on track
of self, and several other times that wavering eventually led to a direct
alternation of self and morals. Upon realization of this change and the
initial discomfort it brings, I felt it was time to return home to visit
my parents and let them know how things have been going in my life in person,
opposed to the letters I would oft' send their way.

When I arrived home, the look upon my mothers face of me was of great comfort.
She could see in me, the woman I am growing into; strong and well placed in my
standing. She said to me "Every day now, you remind me more and more of your
grandfather, he really did have an influence on you, didn't he." Sitting both
of my parents down, I told them of my change of faith, yet my values holding
strong. Their looks upon me did not alter at all, with exception of my father
sitting me down to tell me a story. I rested in front of the fireplace with them.

My father went onto recant this.

"Stefanie, we raised you to be a good girl so you would certainly make a good
wife, and be able to hold your own in the kitchen, however this we did not
expect at all. We raised you within an aura of gold, so that which my father
followed would not peak your interest at all."

My eyes raise at the notion, "What do you mean father?"

"You see Stefanie, your father too walked the grey path. He knew it was truly
the only way he could hold an unbiased view of the world, and see through the
eyes of his enemies, or his generals enemies. It is why he was able to do
the great things he did."

I stand up and say "So, you are saying you raised me the way you did in the
direct circumstance that I would not turn out like grandpa?"

My mother nodded, "Yes dear. Even as a little girl we could see that glint in
your eye, the kind only 'Pa would have while studying in the library. We
did it for what we felt was the best for you, but it seems his legacy lives
on through you, both in career and in your moral choices."

Embracing me in a hug, my father whispers to me, "You really seem to have
a good head on your shoulders dear. You seem to have been lead onto the
right track in all ways possible. May you find great comfort in your place
now, and do your grandfather proud; were he alive today, I assure you he
would smile upon this day of your actions."

With these new changes in my life in place, I slept in my room, gathered
my grandfathers tactical warbook and writings, and prepared my trek to the village.

Chapter 20

Guidance that only a wise old grandfather could give.

While doing battle with what I thought were evil denizens of a ruined city,
my soul felt much regret, and within my faith made me re-evaluate myself
and my decisions. I felt the best way to make due upon this, was to speak
with my grandfather who I equally strive to be like. My grandfather
was once a great elven tactician, watching battle from the sidelines, but
rarely involving himself directly; handing off guidance to the generals while
being a pacifist himself. He could sense in me, even though my heart follows
a path of wisdom, choosing to make proper choices and decisions of the best
most tactical means, my true spirit is that of Victory; using that Wisdom
deep inside to drive those decisions to lead our troops into situations
which will rise for the victor, and knowing when to stand down in order
to maintain the best position.

His last words to me before I returned to the world around me, was that
I should seek out one whos guidance of great leadership could lead my wisdom
to true Victory for myself and all whom walk with me. He only spoke of a
frozen tundra, wherein I would find the essence that great leaders are made of.

...

I received word a day later, than my grandfathers heart had given way,
ending our family legacy of great tacticians.

Chapter 21

The essence of my style.

Raised in a well to do family, I was always seen well in the eyes of the
royals. My natural inherited elven beauty always lent me to being gifted by
others, while in the same note, that inherent pressing human vanity really
shrugged me towards wanting to maintain my beauty as well; But this was not
my purpose.

I was always pushed into pageants, given beautiful clothing, taken to
beautiful balls, learned to be prim and proper in all means, that of a
perfect lady. A lady with no mind of her own, who was only a sight to
look at, who expected a man to be at her defense, else she holds no own.

It was not until my coming of maturity that I rebelled against my peers,
to show them how I truly felt, and what I really stood for. I pressed
myself into study and learn about fighting and defense. I studied the
great tacticians and how their tactics were able to lead to great victory.
I still uphold my beautious looks as a reflection of what I came from, but
I do not let it indicate at all, my actions of how I choose to study my
abilitys in life.

I seek to uphold as one of the Warrior Elite, as a Tactician like my
grandfather once was, not to be pushed into womanly acts as all of the
women of my family have been oppressed to do, for centuries.
