Saroiya Rovinthium the Virtuous Knight-Templar, Devout Monk

Description

This elven lady is a study in elegance and mature beauty. She is just over
six feet tall with graceful curves and supple limbs. Her face is blemish less
and serene with high cheekbones and a pert nose. Her full lips are a deep red
and her eyes are a vibrant blue. The smooth, shoulder-length, blonde braid
that gleams down her back sways with her measured and liquid movements. She
has a far off look to her eyes as if gazing at something you cannot see. She
walks in an unhurriedly manner and a faint flowery scent follows in her wake.

Telling another Squire that she hopes he isn't planning on breaking the law. Should be interesting to have a law-abiding paladin around, it's been a while.

Led a group to try to get Defiance. After 21 (twenty-one!!) deaths, they gave up. To be fair, that isn't Saroiya's fault IMHO... it's just noteworthy as a bloodbath to end all bloodbaths.

Beauty's Curse, a Father's Mistake, and a Hasty Flight
Added Fri Feb 17 04:19:25 2006 at level 1:

Saroiya Rovinthium was the dutiful daughter of the Zohan Rovinthium, Armorer
for Darsylons King and Realm, until the day that he announced the marriage
contract. Beauty and grace favored her heavily, and Saroiya has known since
she was a young adolescent that she possessed a body that drew the male eye.
Her family was very conservative but also very happy. An armorer lives by
modest means and while Saroiya and her siblings did not live richly they knew
they were loved. She had chosen and was expected to become a Priestess of the
Sun. Her education and general training for her holy life took place in the
Academy of Light near the Holy Temple.

The peaceful tranquility of Saroiya's life was disturbed the morning after
the Winter Solstice when her father made the announcement. He had the dazed
look, red-rimmed eyes, and rank scent of the bar and spoke in a bewildered,
horrified, voice. The contract was legally binding and unbreakable. Saroiya
could hardly bear to look at her drunken father then and fled to her room,
forsaking her lessons, and drowning her sorrows in her pillow.

It wasn't until afternoon that Saroiya calmed down and took stock of her
options. Objectively she thought through the possible outcomes of that tragic
morning. She could stay and marry the sly Gaelil and live likely miserably as
his trophy wife until the end of her days. She could stay and refuse to be
wed... and her family would be shamed, she would likely be cast out,
suspended from the Academy, and her father would have to find another way to
mend matters with Gaelil. Lastly, she could run and find a new life for
herself... and let her father deal with his own error. She would be unable to
return, but her family's shame would be less... and her own greater.

After going through the various alternatives, Saroiya chose flight. That
night with only a pack of food from the larder and a spare change of clothes,
she left a note on the table and left. Her journeys took her south and when
she passed through Galadon she heard tell of the Moudrillar Monastery and the
peace that could be found there. Eventually Saroiya made her way there and
was initiated as a nun of the temple.

A Temporary Home
Added Sun Feb 19 07:34:38 2006 at level 22:

The question of Saroiyas fate weighed heavily on her mind as she fled the
elven nation. Where was she to go? What would she become? Should she go back?
Her initial convictions wavered and she began to think that maybe life being
married to Gaelil would not be too terrible. The fact that she did not love
him could be shut aside for perhaps she could come to. In those first days
the only thing that kept the young woman from returning to her home was fear
of the reaction she would receive upon her return.

All of her youth had been spent training to be a priestess, it was the life
she knew and she sought the closest approximate setting that she could in
which to settle herself. Rumor of a hidden monastery in the southern
mountains reached her and she thought perhaps she could find the peace there

After a long journey she scrambled up the last cliff and was welcomed into
their order. There were many differences between the Moudrillar Order and the
Order of the Sun. The most blatant was that the Moudrillar monks practiced
defensive combat. They recognized that from time to time their monastery
would be attacked and they would be called upon to defend it. The initiates
of the Order of the Sun were devoted to healing and peace. They are forbidden
from ever committing a violent act. Saroiya refused to take part in their
combat sessions. The monks were saddened by her decision but were more than
happy to allow her to join them in their other activities. For four years
Saroiya lived peacefully within the Moudrillar Monastery practicing prayer
and floating in a peaceful meditation that was between the practices of both
orders. She reveled in simply being. Life within the Monastery was not
without hardship and she did her share of the work in the farm. Caring for
the cornfields and sewing were regular activities for the young elven woman.

This tranquil life was not to last for the reason for the Moudrillar monks
practice came to Light in a sudden and brutal attack upon the Order itself.
This attack was carried out by a thief and a barman named Jujeeko. His attack
upon the monks was short lived for soon after he began his assault; he in
turn was brutally and mercilessly struck down by a death caller named Dorzuu.
There was nothing Saroiya could do to hinder the bloodshed and soon she found
herself staring upon the ravished corpse of the thief. She asked the death
caller why and he merely glanced at her scornfully before he too left.

This turn of events robbed Saroiya of her sense of security and direction.
The guards of Darsylon had always seen to the safety of the order of the Sun.
She had never had to face death before and it terrified her. The only thing
she knew was that she could not remain in the Monastery. Her new destination
was chosen from legend. The Moudrillar Monks spoke of a lost Monastery high
in the eastern mountains where one might find answers to any question they
might have. Saroiya had many questions and so left the Moudrillar and set off
to find the Golden Crane.

Enlightenment: A Call to Service
Added Sun Feb 19 08:44:33 2006 at level 22:

The Moudrillar Monks instructions were precise and Saroiya traveled swiftly
and surely across land and sea to the Ancient Monastery. She spent days
there in meditation before praying to the Golden Crane and swiftly his
presence came to her. Saroiya had studied what she could of the tenants of
the Lord Dalterics religion and did her best to not insult the God as she
sought her answers. She asked of violence and peace. How she could avoid one
and dwell only in the other. They talked for some time and finally when the
Crane seemed satisfied that his point was driven home he left.

What was this point? The words, many could say you become the one impeding
peace.' rang in her mind long after the spirit left her. She realized that
she had been selfish. She was not the only one who sought a peaceful life and
she was not the only woman who could not escape violence. Many long hours
passed as she contemplated her purpose and self-imposed mission before
affirming a new and setting forth to accomplish it. No longer would she seek
solace and physical safety for herself as a means to a good life. Instead she
realized that the only true place for her to find safety and solace was
within her own mind. Saroiya still desires peace and tranquility of the body
but realizes that such a state cannot be met for any long stretch of time in
this troubled world, and that she should not meet such a state while there
are others who still seek it are frustrated and impeded. Why should her own
peace count more than any other persons? And what finer and more fulfilling
purpose could she give her life than to bring peace to those who desire and
deserve it? Thus she vowed to champion the virtues of the Crane and bring
peace both of body and mind to all the willing souls who would have it. She
took up the sword and learned to wield it. She took up the banner of the
Crane and made herself its bearer. Such is how Saroiya began her mission, to
reveal reason to those who would discover it, and peace to those who would
revel in it, and death to those who wouldnt tolerate it.

Lessons in Treachery
Added Tue Feb 21 19:07:41 2006 at level 32:

Saroiya set off on her self-assigned quest for world peace with conviction
and optimism. It was not long until the later was dealt a grievous blow. She
once thought that the darkness within mens hearts could be reasoned with and
that agreement could be made with some of them. In a most painful set of
circumstances she spoke at length with a giant named Varthardath who was
revealed to be ill-intended by the Crane but who also agreed that they would
harm only those who would harm it. To Saroiya this sounded reasonable and a
good first step towards redemption and peace for the poor soul. The next time
their paths crossed Saroiya greeted him and his companion from afar and made
plain her peaceful intentions only to be struck in the back and slain by the
treacherous fiend.

From this set of events, Saroiya drew a grim conclusion. The word of the
ill-intended was never to be trusted until the Crane showed the malice in
their hearts to be vanquished. The offer of redemption must still be given to
those who might hear it and those who accept must be warily guided to its
conclusion. Anything less than acceptance cannot be trusted and their
ill-intended lives must be put to an end. Saroiya believes she may have found
possible allies in the Holy Brigade and means to sound them out to see if
their missions are close enough that by joining them she might bring peace to
their hearts and have allies in her armed combat against the treacherous
dark-hearted who thwart her.

The Not so Good Allies: The Holy Brigade
Added Sat Mar 4 03:51:30 2006 at level 51:

The concept of goodness is one of inclusion and tolerance in Saroiyas mind.
She has finally conceded to herself that the Brigades ideals and purpose are
most inline with her own and has joined them. They recognize, as she does,
that the only peace that can be made with evil men and women is through
violence and death. In her duties as a Squire, Saroiya finds herself becoming
disturbingly masterful with her blade.

The Maran are not without their faults, and in Saroiyas mind many pursue
their quest with such vigor that it jeopardizes the most principle statutes
of being a good person. This statute is to respect the other good people
around you. This is most evident in the Fortress continued blase treatment
of the laws but extends elsewhere as well. To be good is to be tolerant, but
Saroiya finds the Fort to be increasingly intolerant of those they mean to
protect.

Added Sat Mar 4 03:57:14 2006 at level 51:

In her travels Saroiya has met many new people and made many new friends.
Among the best are the Innkeepers of the Eternal Star. Most of them live
lives that fit the vision that Saroiya has for the future. The Innkeeper that
Saroiya is closest to is a gnome by the name of Kevmorn. They share an
intellectual interest in many fields and through their many travels have come
to trust each other.

Learning through Redemption's Failures
Added Thu Mar 16 04:11:25 2006 at level 51:

Saroiya did her best during her travels to encourage redemption among the
ill-intended that happened upon her. While she was in large part refused,
there were two who shone with the light of possibility. Their names were
Daggan and Kintaro. Through doing several good deeds both managed to convince
Saroiya that their motives were true. Though she was convinced, and she never
did fully trust either of them, she never the less did her best to advance
them down Redemptions path. But as time passed, their resolve failed and
soon they too were gone.

In talks with the Lord Dalteric shortly thereafter their disappearance
Saroiya realized that while both Daggan and Kintaro failed themselves, she
bore the burden failure as well. Redemption is a process that must be
attempted alone in order for it to be truly meaningful. Those who lead the
dark ones down its path take away from the journey some part of what the
candidate must receive in order for the process to be complete. Upon
reflection, Saroiya found this to be true in many other trials as well.

Abandoning the Sun and Reaching Enlightenment
Added Thu Mar 16 05:26:45 2006 at level 51:

When she first approached the Golden CraDid I get that right?

meditation was not that of his people. Years later, it came to her one day
that if she were to truly be worthy of his guidance and favor then she had
best learn the Cranes lessons. Thus she went to the Monastery and prayed for
him. Her Prayers were answered. When she first approached the matter she held
hope that all that might be necessary could be achieving awareness of the
Cranes exercises. It soon became evident during their talks that exercising
them would be unavoidable if she were to find a place among the monks.

For all of her life the Sun had been her constant companion and her savior
from both the sorrows and joys that she had encountered. Its ever present
warmth had been her life since her days as a Priestess of the Sun. The
prospect of abandoning the comforting warmth was daunting. The soon revealed
necessity of reflecting on what she had witnessed in life without the Sun was
terrifying. Yet, she believed in the Cranes judgment, that he would not
guide her to ruin.

The teaching was a long and laborious process with her anxiety battling
against both Sun and logic within her. In the end she reached full
understanding of what she had to do. All that was left was to do it. Letting
go of the Sun was the hardest thing she had ever done up to that point. Her
first session of reflection soon followed as the hardest thing she had ever
done up to that point. But in the end she embraced the new teachings and made
them her own.

A Trial's Consequence: Teaching the Faith
Added Thu Mar 16 05:37:19 2006 at level 51:

The Lord Dalteric taught Saroiya many things during her quest for
enlightenment. One of the lessons learned was how to teach. She has found
great rewards in debate already by speaking with her brother monk, the elf
Vaelin. She has now begun the education of Betankhur so that he might find
peace in the trouble that brews about and within him. Saroiya finds this a
natural extension of her continuing quest and is pleased to do it.

The Errors of Haste: Trouble in the Inn
Added Tue Apr 25 07:48:10 2006 at level 51:

In the course of her quest Saroiya has made many judgments most that she
looks back upon with favor but some that she does not. Among the decisions
she regrets the most was to disregard the rules of the Inns proprietors in
favor of her war with evil. At the time it had been a decision made in haste
rather than one she had contemplated before. That she failed to do so was a
stiff lesson in diligence and a failure in her countenance as guided by the
Lord Dalteric.

In light of this misdeed Saroiya sought to make amends with the Innkeepers
and worked to show them the depths of her remorse through labor. She learned
that which the Innkeepers most covet is communication and the company of
others. These realizations lead to the first civic undertaking of Saroiya's
life as she organized and hosted a religious forum at the Inn of the Eternal
Star. While Saroiya finds herself satisfied with both her effort and the
fruits of them, she is unsatisfied with the cause and has resolved to spend
more time in contemplation.

Avoiding Apocalypse
Added Tue Apr 25 08:43:04 2006 at level 51:

Saroiya's good friend Farigno has come to her bearing tidings of a mounting
threat from within the ruins of Maethien. Magic's guardian bears tidings of
the failing warding and has sought Saroiyas help in renewing it. This was a
warning that Saroiya took most seriously and contemplated long on how to
solve the problem. Many alternatives to Farigno's plotted course of action
occurred to her and she discussed them at length both with Farigno and the
Lord Dalteric. After seeking the Lord Crane's council Saroiya went forth to
contemplate his advice and found instead a battle with Greddarh.

She smote the dark knight down and took from his seared corpse the supposed
key to the wards. Upon taking it up and examining the arcane energy of the
thing, Saroiya came to realize that her own lack of knowledge concerning the
arcane precluded her from making informed judgments concerning the quest. She
has since handed the relic over to Farigno and recognizing his superior grasp
of the situation, is ready to assist him in anyway he thinks worthwhile.
