Chapter 2

Background
Added Thu Jan 12 01:15:40 2006 at level 40:

Little is known of the drow Ktephes Tah'Nahar, and he likes it this way.
He doesn't speak much about himself, his life, or anything else. There
isn't anything he's trying to hide or cover, he just prefers speaking when
new information is to be gathered. Having completed his spy training in a
small secret city, far below the surface of Thera, he then spent most of
his youth stealthily walking the dark tunnels of the underdark, spying for
enemies. He quickly became a very competent spy, but he was bored, irritated
of having to follower orders and gather information for his superiors. So
one day, he simply disapeared and never returned to his home. The Tah'Nahar
family had lost their last member.

Curiosity led Ktephes to leave the tunnels he knew so well for the surface
of Thera, and it was quite a discovery. The adaptation was tough, but even
under the light of the sun, he learned to walk unnoticed, embracing the
shadows which had always been his only true ally. He took pleasure spying
the surface walkers, stepping out of his cover and killing them when they
didn't even have time to be surprised. He particulary loved slaying paladins
and other fools who called themselves "lightwalkers". Lightwalkers... who
still couldn't believe what had hit them when he would leave his shadows and
manage to kill them with only one blow.

One night, as he was stalking his next victim, he saw something he found very
interesting. The man he was following went resting in a some dark clearing in
a forest, near Arkham. After a short rest, the man stood to his feet, whispered
a few words and conjured a dark creature Ktephes had never seen. A Nightwalker.
That man was no wizard, and this sight was new to Ktephes' eyes, which had seen
a lot already. He then kept following the newly formed party, amazed at how dark
and evil the creature looked like. He began gathering information on the man
and his dark companion, asking questions, reading various related texts and
parchments. Writings of some dark ritual, of everlasting Shadows to come. He
eventually found a text that explained the story of Valguarnera, the discovery
of the Book, and the birth of the Scions of Eternal Night.
