Privilege.

Born to plenty, never wanting for anything, Nikravnek Devillier was the son
to a wealthy merchant. His father, Oscar, was born a poor man and by his own
wits, cunning, guile and not to mention a few odd deaths of business partners,
has made his mark on the world and amassed a fortune to which Nikravnek is
the only heir. Oscar had acquired a beautiful wife when trading in the far north
and brought her back with his newest line of merchandise to sell. She was a
dark skinned woman who was said to have strange powers, but that was just
jealous locals talking, so Oscar said. She gave Oscar what he wanted, a son to
inherit his legacy and to keep the name of Devillier alive and so even after she
died in a riding accident, Oscar did not lose too much sleep over it.

Nikravnek was about 5 years old at the time and missed his mother terribly so
Oscar did the only thing he knew how. He threw money at is and he bought a
nanny to tend to his sons every need, but it was not the tending to that Oscar
had intended and so, by the time Nikravnek was 14 the nanny had slept with
him and taken his eye, filled his head with flights of fancy, sorcery and other
such debauchery.

When Oscar found out that his son had been turned into a Jack-dandy and
risked being the talk of the city he banished the woman and beat Nikravnek in
his rage. 'She is a bloody animal!' he yelled as Nikravnek cowered beneath
every blow that was delivered with each word. So Nikravnek's hate grew.
