Chapter 2

My early thoughts on Life (part 2)
Added Wed Jul 19 11:24:23 2023 at level 40:

How do I know that my Judgment is correct?

I do not, actually. I think Judgment is a matter of balancing the heart and
the mind. And I think this is why Mercy is so important. Those in the Light
must be free to make mistakes, else they cannot grow. Thus we must be
merciful to those who come to the wrong conclusions.

Are any sins beyond Mercy?

Another difficult question. Something tells me the answer is no. Though, I
find it hard to find Mercy for those who corrupt life like the conjurer,
anti-paladin and the necromancer.

When is it time for Mercy, and when is time for Justice?

I believe there should be great Mercy for those who are trying to do right.
After all, don't we all fall short of the goal from time to time? Take for
example an elf who uses the magic of conjuration. Though their craft is an
affront to Her, to Life itself, it is unlikely a typical elf set out to do
harm. In fact, they likely learn the magic in an attempt to do what they
Judged was helpful. This elf would be, to my mind, most deserving of Mercy.

At the same time, if a dark-elf sought the magic of conjuration they would be
using twist, awful magic in the pursuit of wickedness. It would surely be
right to meter Justice for those actions, using Mercy only to temper the
inevitable, necessary culling of their life.

And yet, even as I write these words I am struck by arrogance to even think a
mortal such as I could be possess the wisdom to Judge these things correctly.
I must be cautious on this path.

Where shall I, Suillesnu, go to begin?

Perhaps the hardest thing in Life is to accept the burden of these questions
and still find joy. It is so easy to get wrapped up in what is inside our
minds and forget what is outside to experience. The gifts of Life are found
in nature, thus I seek a place in the Refuge to not only experience Her joy,
but to protect it as well. As guide in the ways of Judgment, Mercy, and
Justice, I seek the Lady Azorinne's wisdom. I pray there is harmony between
these paths.
