Finneas raised Bellassan as his own, which involved teaching the boys his unsavory ways and using
his for his criminal schemes. Bellassan also acted as Finneas's personal housekeeper, making food,
cleaning up, etc. And average day for Bellassan under Finneas's care would be practicing "the art
of the grift," in which Bellassan would try to convince a stranger of some lie, usually a sad
story to motivate that stranger to either give Bellassan some coin or to distract them while
Finneas picked their pockets or invaded their home. Fenneas tried to teach Bellas how to pick
pockets himself, but Bellas lacked the subtlety for it and was far more gifted at acting and
being a distraction. This behavior had become quite ingrained in Bellassan as he grew older, and
Finneas began to take in other boys, orphans and street urchins, to train up as well. Bellas
helped to teach these children how to lie, steal, and victimize. It was a way of life.
