Chapter 5

The Plan

Soon, he was able to reproduce the simplest spells. Inspired by his own
talents and his own power, he was descending lower and lower into the
dark arts. Soon, in the old library, there were no books left to satisfy
him: he had read them all and learned as much as possible. And then, he
developed a plan.

His plan was simple: to find and destroy the damned dark mage, he would
become more powerful than his enemy. And then, he would, of course, be
able to find a key to that damned book, and then he'd find his enemy. And
then, he'd avenge his father, for his life, and for what Itzenxilaatl had
become. Darkness against darkness, death for death, and he'd be his
nemesis, no matter what else Itzenxilaatl would have to sacrifice. He
stepped on this path, and he knew - it was too late to turn back.

Dark arts and forbidden rituals became his only passion. He kept sinking
deeper and deeper into things that would turn a usual mortal insane - so
horrible and perverted they were. Now, he could turn the blood of a
living being into a poisonous liquid at will. He could turn the eyes of
his prey blind, or a spell he was most proud of, he could put nearly
anyone into a magical slumber and do whatever evil things he liked with
the helpless body. He found satisfaction in his powers and talents, and
the death of his father started becoming less and less important.

Realizing that he was losing his humanity, Itzenxilaatl marked a red star
on the books that he was reading. Then on the clothes he was wearing, on
his magical instruments. Stars reminded him of who he was, and why he was
studying the dark arts. As it was insufficient, he started to scar his
own body, carving red stars on his hands, palms, and arms. Each time he
caught himself oblivious of who he was, he passionately added a red star.
Soon, his whole his body was covered with red star scars of different
sizes and forms.
