Role

Chapter 3

"Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves."

You find yourself looking over a worn but mostly well-kept leather journal.
Some of the pages have wine stained red thumbprints on the corners, but for the
most part the book appears to be well guarded and cared for. The journal is
open to a page that is mostly filled with what seem to be random short notes,
ideas, and curiosities that Thraininkh has jotted down in passing for further
study. Some of the blocky, hastily written scrawl reads:

"Lyceum: nothing helpful found yet, but further research warranted. Don't dally
in there, they kick you out faster'n a whore that figured out you're broke."

"Delar-Tol: High hopes the Old Dwarves will remember something since forgotten
... I found a library stacked to the roof! ... That damn library is so full I
can't find anything..."

"Mortorn: It's good to be home, even if I have to hide my face for the time
being. The library is empty, shelves, tables, and all ... As many spiders as
words in there now. What in the hells are the summoning circles for?
The Hall of Remembrance- the walls are full of arcane writing, but I can't read
enough of it! The room is full of Knowledge that's beyond me ... Mayhaps I can
find a way to focus or strengthen my revelatory powers in order to look back
into the past and see what was ...
Kor: There's much to learn of Kor in the Lower Halls that we didn't learn as
pups, but I have more questions now than before. Apparently the Avatar had a
longer and more arduous journey to achieving the Purity of his spirit than
we're taught as younglings. Regardless, I'm struck by some of the commonalities
between Kor and I. We've both dedicated ourselves to our Duty, we both have
trained beyond simple martial combat, we both saw the Scales of Justice as a
guiding light.

So many questions remain, though: Did Kor start the Great War or did it rage
already and he is one of the few that brought it to peace, if only temporarily?
What became of Ironoak, is his story known? How was the bond between the
dwarves and forest guardians broken? "

The final entry on the page is a single line, written in a more unsteady hand
and divided from the rest of the writing on the page by a dark wine smudge:
"EXILE HAS FOLLOWED ME TO THE SPIRE"
