Chapter 2

This Broken Life..
Added Mon May 7 17:19:57 2018 at level 12:

I remember the winds rushing through the plains that day, the idleness of
the morning gave way to laughter and cheer as the sun rose upon the horizon
The freepeople praised Thar-Eris and we began our day, however even the
OneHeart chief nor the Seers knew what lurked beyond the grasses that day.

My family were the tenders of her being, my husband and I initiates into the
druidic rites, our young daughter would be blessed into the circle one day
as well. We cultivated herbs for the freepeople, working the soil and reaping
the fruits of Thar-Eris for our village.

I made my way back from the Nanthor that day, its waters spilling over from
the basket atop my head as I made my way back to the hut. In the distance I
one flower to the next. My husband Yond looked up from the beets he picked
to smile at me as I came up over the hillock.

That picturesque image of serenity and happiness would suddenly shatter...

From across a nearby ridge, a massive ball of flame streaked through the
air, coursing with magical energy, and exploding in a blaze of destruction
where my life and loves were.

The basket fell from my head, as the clay lining broke into pieces at my
feet. Time was at a stand still. I was overcome by shock, and I remember
watching the water trickle from the broken basket on the ground and be
taken from me and swallowed up by the earth below.

Just as easily as my loves and my life were taken from me that day.

Strength stirred in me as I darted towards the smoke and haze billowing
forth from where my family were. Just then an elven soldier in military
garb came hurling towards me as if thrown from a distance. From over the
ridge where the fireball had came, a drow crackling with energy and the
power of the elements flew aloft in the air. Directly beneath him was a
rampaging fire giant, enraged with fury, leading a charge towards the
elven soldier. There onslaught on the elf created a path of destruction
all across the plains in a span of a few minutes. Though it seemed like
a lifetime. There onslaught spilled into the dark forest and faded away
into the trees, while my life slipped away as well.

I walked to the charred earth where an enormous crater now resided kicking
up ash and smoke into the air. The heat was oppressive and burned my vision
from my eyes, but I had to find them. Maybe they survived. I grasped to all
that is hope and prayed to Thar-Eris that they would be safe.

But my prayers fell silent.. Nearby the burning thatch and wood from our
home was a near perfect pile of ash. Motionless and cold. Of my husband
embracing our daughter in vane, attempting to shield her from harm.
