Oniflond's History Part 2

Oniflond was smart enough to gather enough of the merchant's things
to sell for passage to the Academy in Galadon. Once there, he read
about all of the cabals of Thera and quickly realized the Empire must
have been responsible for his freedom. He came to view them as a
twisted version of the tales of the Fortress - saving innocents from
terrible fates. He quickly learned, though, that the Imperials were
not the sort to do such a thing for the innocent. Nor for free.

This suited him just fine.

"Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money," Oniflond had heard
the merchant say on occasion. It had seemed stupid to Oniflond at
the time. But after scraping and saving to get the coin together to
pay the Imperial Recruiter and take the Oath, he understood.

The true currency in this land is power. And enough coin can buy it,
if you're smart enough to spend it the right way.
