Imperial Absolution

The dark musings of the Father of Devils echoed in his ears as Solraen elegantly
strode out of the Mausoleum perched upon a delicate cliff that towered over the
Khalid River. He turned his adoring gaze north west and towards the gaping Maw of
the Infernal Domain of the Prince of Darkness, resisting the allure and beckoning
of the realm he had so intimately probed.

"You have a difficult road before you. You will have to be clever to overcome the
damage left behind you."

Again the words echoed in his mind and with a spark of irritation Solraen snapped
his attention back to the treacherous path that snaked itself down to the waiting
Mercenary who nervously waited for the return of the Risen Phoenix. A trumpeting
sound reached his ears as it echoed upon the winds and attracted his violet eyes
towards the Imperial Lands as a second mourning horn rose up to reverberate from
the surface of the flowing river.

Solraen turned his full attention to the spectacle beneath him, attuning his keen
and meticulous sight towards the dull, drab grey of the Palace in the distance as
the various slaves and Oaths began to lower the obnoxious banners that had been
woven with the Imperial Codex, a funeral procession departed the old Palace Gates
with the fleshly remains of Dhuzir Darkbeard, the late Emperor.

How curious, the dainty Drow thought to himself as he relished the passing events
taking place before him. Could this mean the last mortal of his own reign had now
turned into nothing more than ashes and dust?

... "You will have to be clever to overcome the damage left behind you." ...

With the Church long forgotten a new scheme began to take place in Solraen's mind,
and with time of the essence, he whispered his new destination to the frightful
Mercenary, whose eyes darted back and forth along the line of trees that bordered
the Dark Woods, and the pair set off to a much dryer climate to offer a new bargain
to the Unspoken One.
