One day after having lunch with her uncle, Mela was roaming the halls of the
castle and saw guests had come to Akan. She first introduced herself to
Bralela and elf noble. Bralela spoke so proper, something Mela had not heard
before.Mela looked at Bralela and touched her own ears. Bralela was short
with the young half-breed as if she was annoyed. Mela knew that this elf
would not give her the comfort she longed for. She knew she did not belong
with the elves, although she was half one.

Mela then found another visitor to the palace, but this one was human. He
happily greeted Mela and said he was Rigal. Rigal was a bard, but Mela had
never heard of such. Mela found comfort in talking with this human, so she
returned day after day to speak wit him. He taught her of this guild. He
told her great stories of cities all across Thera. Mela liked the stories of
Galadon, and the Blood Tribunal the most. She quizzed Rigal of the history
of the Spire, and of their laws. She became obsessed with order and justice.
her heart, she knew she could never be a great king for she was not a
dwarf, but she could leave her mark in another way. Mela wished to be great
and be immortalized in something. She found that something with in
civilization. Then, Mela knew it had come time for her to leave. She heard
her calling and left Akan to seek out the Spire and uphold order and justice.
knew the towns protected by the Tribunal were perfect societies, with
order and commerce. She knew as becoming part of such a society she would
find the greatness she desired.

Her parents were saddened by when Mela told them she had to go, but they
understood. They had the carver fashion Mela a simple recorder. They packed
her plenty of ale and Nankof or the trip ahead.

Mela took the long trip to Galadon, and found the Bards guild. She told the
Guardian that Rigal had sent her and that she would be a promising student.
She was accepted into the practice, and quickly began working hard. She
often thought about those in the cells of Akan and she knew she would never
allow one who harmed an innocent to sit in a cell, but rather give them a
blade through the heart.
