Chapter 1

Fall of the Daehyanda.

Salyeris Nimkerta was once a servant to the dark elven Daehyanda family, was
once bound to them from birth as the last five generations of her family had
been. Perhaps servant was too kind a word, but slave did not fit entirely
either, for they were not treated cruelly or harshly in recent times. There
was no need for it as there had once been, before her family name had become
Nimkerta. The brand upon the back of her neck compelled her to serve them, as
it did all who shared her blood line. As it would any child born to any of
the females of her family. And it was only because she was female that she
was not slain at birth by her masters.

But that was then, a past she only recalled parts of as decades had passed.
The last memory she had of them all, her sisters, her mother, her masters,
was of the celebration.

It had been a grand celebration, one the whole Daehyanda family had attended.
None suspected something amiss, though their favored wine tasted slightly
different. So they had sent Salyeris to get more, and so she opened the door,
dropping the wards which prevented entry for but a moment. And yet before the
door closed and the ward snapped back into place, three figures slipped in.

Salyeris returned to find not a soul alive within the home, every throat,
dark elven or wood elven, slit. None showing any sign of having fought the
unknown assailants. The wine had been drugged, and the their fates sealed.

And with that, Salyeris was left on her own.
