Chapter 1

Backstory

Ganicus was born to a family that has a long history of being mediocre
warriors in a mercenary clan of deep gnomes. His family has a strong dislike
of mages born of resentment from being treated as fodder within the clan
while mages have much more prestige (think hill billy rednecks not liking;role + college educated people). It turns out that Ganicus has a natural talent for
magic, and not just a little bit, a lotta bit, their mage contingent thought
he could be the greatest spell weaver his clan ever produced.

He turns down their offer of training because he cares more about his family
then about personal power and glory. His family resents him for having the
talent for magic. He grows angry with the world because he turned down magic
but his family treats him like shit.

During an attack on his home town where everyone is scattered he decides to
run away, sick of the bullshit and like I said before, really really angry
with the world and magic in particular because he believes everything was
great until he found out he could perform it.

He moves to the surface and joins the warriors guild to find his own way. He
takes his anger out on mages and wants to join the village to find a new
family.He will never admit to anyone that he has a talent for magic but if
someone from on high wants to interact on that basis(omniscient knowledge or;role + his family turns up) I will roll with it.

as a side note he really doesn't like drow/duergar. Not an I will kill them
all just for being them but more the whole those are the other races from the
underdark and not the best of neighbors type thing.
