Embers of Knowledge

Kanrue Jalsten was born into the village of Hillcrest, and like his family
was immediately enrolled into the school of magic. However, it became
apparent that Kanrue had no talent for this. Actually, he might have made a
great magician, but he did not care to sit in a room studying books. He would
just wander around, and substantially did poorly in his classes.

Being weak and frail, his family knew he was not fit to be a warrior, nor was
he nimble, so a profession of thievery was out of the question too. In fact,
his family basically gave him up for loss, until he stumbled into the church
and began to become religious. But it was odd, he did not sit and pray too
terribly often, nor did he attend class. Instead he was found just roaming
the countryside, healing the things he found that were injured with what
skill he possessed, and peeking and poking, exploring and tweaking anything
he could find.

Kanrue was very inquisitive, this much was clear, as he was always busy
musing over the childhood folk lore and legends. He was also rather peaceful.
Which isnt to say that he loathed work or anything, he just wasnt
very..physical. He preferred the intellectual challenges that his gnomish
heritage proved to be very adept at tackling. He was always burning to find
out 'more'.

It wasnt until he was pouring over a book of religions that he uncovered
Iunna's chapter. It, clearly, changed him. He became more adamant then ever
about finding out things, for Kanrue was always declaring that exploring and
solving the baffling, puzzling and mysterious natures of Thera was his inner
fire, what he burned to do with his life. He was nearly always, then walking
and peeking about by day, hardly ever sitting still, always on some personal
mission. Until deep into the night where he finally would sit still, by a
fireside and write down his most important findings by fireside.

As far Kanrue, as he got a bit older he decided to seek out Iunna to meet him
for herself, and garner her blessings, and he even began to form a growing
interest in the Heralds, for he was quite sure that any society meant to
preserve and progress knowledge and lore was a place he was meant to reside.
