Magic depend very much on belief. Not just of the will of the mage who
believes they can achieve such miracles through such simple things as words
and gestures, but also the belief of the victim. People read greatly from
expression and action, body language, so those that have trained themselves
to resist magic often try to project the image that no such words and gestures
will affect them. This is why Gods are so much stronger when using mana
than mortals - thousands even hundreds of thousands will pour their belief
into a God. A simple mage can't compare when bending reality.

Dwarves have a unique perspective in that they are stubborn not just by
nature, but from creation they are ingrained with solid, stalwart values and
beliefs. As a people, dwarves are fanatically loyal to family, clan and race
above all else and will pursue grudges against those who wrong them with
self-destructive stubborness. It's said that a dwarf wronged never forgives
and never forgets. As such, Drahmim has come to hate the roots of magic
and all associated with it. Though he has seen the effects of magic on his
kin, and the remains of magical runes throughout dwarven folklore he is
embarassed by the reliance on magic that many in dwarven history have come
to enjoy.
