Essentially, this allows you to "collect on" your accumulated Observation, Exploration, and Commerce XP without having to quit the game. (We didn't like having an IC consequence attached purely to that OOC mechanism.) You will still collect your accumulated XP when you quit.

ICly, you talk over what you've seen, done, and learned with your guildmaster, and he counts that in with your tales of combat for the purposes of deeming you worthy or unworthy of promotion. You can only do this so often, lest people get really, really bored of hearing you blather.

In order to accurately measure your continued progress in your guild, any of
your guildmasters will entertain tales of your more memorable adventures and
reward you accordingly. This can only be done once in a while.
