1952, Automated reboots after 72 hour uptimes
Posted by Zulghinlour on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I added this feature in about 2 weeks ago, and finally got to see it in action last night! No more super-long uptimes (though I will admit I loved seeing us up for a week without a crash when it happened).

You can see the current uptime in the uptime command

Carrion Fields started up at Fri May 29 01:29:57 2009 (CST)
System time is Fri May 29 10:15:49 2009 (CST)
Carrion Fields current uptime 08:45:52
1955, Hmm, whats the advantage of it? Some new clean-up procedures? /nt

Just addding a level of consistency & clean-up to the world when it's been up for awhile.
1957, And loading shoppers with money
Posted by Dwoggurd on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Actually, can this be fixed?
It seems that after a while, shoppers hardly have money to buy anything that is not extremely cheap?

Another remark: it also resets some after-reboot-only quests. So the same question, how easy it would be to change that, so those quests will not be dependant on reboots but rather on a timer.

Welcome to the economy...if nobody's buying...the shopkeepers don't have any money.

No idea which quests you're talking about, so I don't know the answer.

Well, in normal economy, when nobody buys anything, shops get closed. But we still have them open, I suspect they are smugglers and thus should have money.
Anyway, gameplayng wise it would be nice to repop their money over time. If it's the case right now, the rate should be upped a bit. Ideally, a player should not see much difference in economy should he login right after a reboot or 2 days later after a reboot.
Or if we want to implement some "economy" things, it makes sense to carry them over reboots (after some tweaks).
From my experience, at some point shoppers stop buying things and very likely you will not sell anything good to them until next reboot. Sometimes killing/repoping a shopkeeper helps, but they still aren't as generous with money as after reboots.

Ask Nepenthe, he should know some.

The ones that I'm aware of have been timer based for a long time.
1963, Except

1967, Well, right:

The point is, you're not solely dependent on reboots/crashes to see that stuff.

Edited to add: and the thing I suspect you're thinking of is probably a lot more limited by object limits than anything else.
1968, And on that note...

The shopkeepers (as an example: Galadon leatherworker, jeweler, armorer and weaponsmith) have nothing worth buying. I can literally get better stuff prior the level that you can even buy the stuff at these shops. Anyone who types in help newbie can figure out how to get better stuff.

I'm not asking for uber gear. But something better than crap would be nice.
