1295, New command: Cabalwars
Posted by Zulghinlour on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Syntax: cabalwars

This will show the current membership numbers of the various cabals throughout Thera. It will also show you their current influence in the Realm based on how often they hold their item of Power. Influence is tracked weekly, and is reset every Sunday.
1329, This will now track items taken each week as well (n/t)

Neat addition, but here are some additional suggestions concerning this change:

Can you add Grinning skulls to the item takers list? They are able to hold items too. Also, you could mention in the helpfile which is the taker and which is the cabal the item was taken from.

Let me see how easy this is to do...

Updated the helpfile:
In the ITEMS TAKEN section, each row is how many times that cabal has taken another cabals item. Each column is how many times that cabal has lost their item.

This will make it interesting to see what is going on, useful too if you are a lackey...:P

How about a casualty stat to show how many have fallen and who suffered the most casualties? No names, just numbers.

This is a nice addition.

It would be nice to make the cabalwars info only available at certain places, like 'newstands' or if you are part of a cabal you can do it anytime.

I doubt we'll be putting any sort of PK tracking in the game that is available like that.

Since these two aren't actually in the Cabal it gives a false impression of how many people are really in the Cabal. Any chance we can get their number in parenthesis instead of as part of the real caballed number?

I disagree that these two aren't actually in the Cabal. Including these numbers is more accurate than not including them.

Are they really in if they can't retrieve? Can village applicants even get into the village? I'm not saying leaving them out complete, but maybe put both real members and wannabes.

They can hear the cabal channel, they know when a raid is happening, they are definitely part of the cabalwars.

Just wanted to ask, when you say it's tracked weekly and reset... are the results we are shown calculated live or the results of 'last weeks' cabalwars? Will the commands output then only be changing every Sunday, when the score slate is cleaned?

Is there a difference in the way 'members' is judged, and 'influence' calculated that might help us understand what the numbers mean?

Thanks!

The influence & members is live. On Sunday when it resets, everyones influence will be at 100%, and start to degrade as the cabals don't retain their items.

So when it's Friday and you see: EMPIRE 42 64 %
You know that Empire has been getting whomped on this week.

Nope

Members is all the mortals in a cabal (including applicants for Battle, and Bloodoaths for Empire).

Influence is purely based on cabal item in cabal altar starting Sunday at midnight.

Mind to change it so it would track last 7 days, not only the days after a sunday?
I think it will be hard to make assumptions when influence goes down each day after sunday :).

If it was easy (like all the data tracked in a database), sure. Unfortunately it's not, so I don't see it changing anytime soon.

Will there be changes to make this something more than cosmetic? (i.e. benefits relative to cabal)

I don't even know what this means.
1299, Here's my take

If Empire not only satisfies requirements for keeping their item, but holding other item(s) from strong teams - they get an Empire-related bonus. Such as eased coffer-draining, cheaper promotions, shorter recharge on cents, etc.

Like having Veil-style influence on cabalwars and cabal-benefits.

I admit it's greatest fault would be attaching math to reality. Things like number of members is not a reliable way of judging -strength-. Although item holding is a great way, it has it's faults (uncountered lowbie retrievals for example could skew numbers).

But as a long-term project, it holds great merit. The biggest of which I see is that this kind of system could easily include the current outsider of Cabalwars. If implimented, it wouldn't only be boosting Unbound Spirit benefits, or Tribunal's hourly salary... but the Orc tribe's fury!! :)

The veil doesn't already help the current topdog in the magic war. Lets make it so that the current topdog is always benefitted even further!
1306, This is one of the reasons...
Posted by Zulghinlour on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
When we've talked about the cabalwars and how to improve it. Giving the person who is on top even more power is something we've stayed away from. All you will do is give the team in power an easier way to stay in power and the underdog an even harder time to get back in power.
1312, How about...
Posted by WildGirl on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
A system of minor reward for the top cabal and a bit of help for the lesser cabal. Something like...

Respect/Fear of the powerful.
Sympathy for the underdog.

The help would be minor in both cases, but could be something like a discount at shops for the powerful, and a chance for the underdog to gain an extra item. (If you're the underdog, you could go to a store that would possibly have sympathy for your cause and there's a chance they might give you two return potions instead of one). Or maybe your cabal shop would charge you less. I don't know. Would add something interesting to the mix without making the powerful more powerful.

Would that honestly make you go out and try and retrieve your item or take another item? I don't really feel like that adds anything to the cabalwars.
1309, Not one of my suggestions...
Posted by GinGa on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
...was even PK related.

And that was the reason why.

There are plenty of other ways to reward the winners that don't then give them an edge over the losers.
