9874, Follow bug?
Posted by Newoldie on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It has been almost six years since I last played and I did not think about posting except with all the santa work and other excellent things going on I figured why not?
With a few characters I have noticed that the npc follow code for players is partially bug ridden. There are a few instances where they will follow in one direction but if you double back on yourslef they dont follow.
This seems more prevelant with some hidden exits, but occasionally occours with singular exit rooms. Once I remember seing; A mercenary tries to leave but fails to message.
Almost all of the say commanded movments or action movment seem to leave your pets behind.
Examples:
Crawling into rooms or through windows or cracks. Object actions that move the player.
Speaking a command at a city gate for entrance. (Mortorn or that gnome town)
I have thought about this bug and wondered if it wouldnt be easier to allow all pets to follow their creator or owner excluding a few obvious actions.
Examples:
Fleeing whilst the pet is fighting. Summon, teleport, vanish, gate or any other player controled long distance travel. More than a single room.
Drive, pull, terrain movement (rivers), buffet, earthbind (causing falling).
The other alternative is to have a command that brings all of your pets to you. This command could cost 50 mana per pet if the pets are in the same area and the player is not currently aggressive. I had thought about an additional cost for adjacent areas , incase the movement was from the edge of a zone into another, of up to 250 mana. Both of which would have to be done within 5 game hours before the function of the command expires and your pets are considered left behind. This counting down timer is also allow you to regain mana prior to using it. Balancing the command with a lag based on how many pets you are gathering could also be introduced.
I post this bug sumission as I believe it to be a actual bug that has been left in the low priority basket for a long time.
I would love to explore more solo with the ability to not have to be a conjurer where your pets come to you nomatter what. Having a pet to pickup objects you cannot carry or reject due to racial restraints would also be good.
There are also a few Rp things that I would like to add to a few of my characters that could benefit from such things.
pps, Would it be possible to have a command to turn of pet's assisting and to turn it back on?

This was fixed recently.

If you mean things like an orb of travel, this is by design.

This one is a toss-up to me. I'll talk it over with some folks.

No, it would not be easier. This actually has more special cases than currently exist.

I really don't see this happening.
