Not sure how it is used. Was told that it gives 'shocking grasp' but than could not use it on myself, against mobs or anything. Don't make much sense. Missing something here?

Short log:
You zap an orc taskmaster with a small, elm wand tipped with a lodestone.
Your shocking grasp decimates an orc taskmaster!
An orc taskmaster has some small but disgusting cuts.
Unless you're thinking of Shocking Touch, which is a different spell.
