If you have a mercenary, you'll get about +25-30% more XP if they make the last hit, which is weird.
How to test:
1. Buy any mercenary;
2. Kill mob yourself;
3. Let mercenary do it for you next time;
4. Compare rewarded XP.

This has always been true and I'm inclined to leave it like this. If you play necromancers you will have noticed this with zombies as well. It doesn't happen often that your follower seals the kill, but when it happens it's a nice perk.
