Fighting the beastmistress east of Arkham, after she shifts:
wilderness <75%hp 100%m 30%mv 1656tnl (75.79%) 6 AM> With a short hop, you deal
a powerful kick to a tawny deer's torso.
Your weighty boots land a telling blow.
Your side kick EVISCERATES a tawny deer!
A tawny deer is convulsing on the ground.

A tawny deer can't get her hands up in time to swing.

The deer likely doesn't have hands, and would likely not be swinging anything to attack. Perhaps something more generic like "A tawny deer cannot attack in time."?
